‘Dancing With the Stars’ Recap

November 26th, 2007 / Author: cwillett

As you rev up (no pun intended) for Monday’s final
performance night of Dancing With the Stars, OK! takes a look back at the
largest and most controversial season yet. From unfortunate deaths to shocking
upsets, season five left everyone talking, so before you chat about who will
win, reminisce on those who didn’t.

Week One: Twelve couples — the largest ensemble yet — hit the
floor to kick off the fifth season of the ABC smash. Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan
and Mark Ballas cha-cha-cha-ed their way to a 26, which goes down in DWTS lore
as the highest first-week score ever.

Result: After being described as “deceptively
unfit” by partner Alec Mazo, model Josie Maran, who received a 16 for their
foxtrot, got the boot, marking the second consecutive season Alec and a model
have left first. Here’s hoping Alec doesn’t get a model next season!

Week Two: Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough pull into first place with a 27
for their mambo, but his achievement was lost amidst all the other talk of the
week. OK!’s resident blogger Jennie Garth took a tumble in her quickstep when
partner Derek Hough tripped on her gown. “We only had one dress rehearsal and I
guess you might say it was a wardrobe malfunction!” she wrote in her blog
afterwards. Jane Seymour sat out the results
show after her mother, Mieke Frankenberg, passed away.

Result: Abercrombie & Fitch hottie Albert Reed and partner Anna Trebunskaya
left to the surprise of the judges and lowest scorer Wayne Newton and Cheryl
Burke
, proving that models have no fan base.

Week Three: It was tight up top with a three-way tie on the leader board —
Melanie Brown, Jane and Sabrina all earned 27s for their dances. But the dance
of the night went to Jennie’s spicy tango, earning her “comeback of the season”
praise from judge Bruno Tonioli and the encore spot.

Result: After looking resigned to
leaving the last week, Wayne and Cheryl finally get the hee-haw.

Week Four: All My Children star Cameron Mathison proved to
be super-hot (in more ways than one) with his Superman-inspired Paso Doble, earning
a 27. But the highest score of the night went to Sabrina and Mark, who got the
first perfect 30 of the season for their own Paso. But trouble brewed when
Carrie Ann Inaba criticized Jane and Tony Dovolani and boxer Floyd Mayweather
and Karina Smirnoff of executing illegal lifts. “I don’t know what she was
thinking. People have been flying through the air for weeks [but] I remember my
feet touching the ground,” Jane tells OK! afterwards, still feeling the sting.

Result: Stung and down for the count — Floyd and Karina, who exited ahead of surprise
bottom two-dwellers Mel and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

Week Five: Marie faints! What else was there to talk about? The bubbly
entertainer passed out while awaiting critique from the judges, forcing the
show to cut away to a five-minute commercial. Attributing the tumble to her
asthma and allergies, Marie woke up after a few minutes and declared she was “fine!”
Elsewhere, Mel and Maks rebounded with a high-scoring 29 for their samba.

Result: The earnest and eager Mark Cuban finally met his end on the show. The billionaire’s journey is
a testament to his fan devotion — he stayed through five weeks despite
dangerously low scores every week.

Week Six: Mel and Maks spiced up the floor again, capturing their first perfect
30 for the season and the highest score of the night, and Jane took another bye on results night due to food
poisoning.

Result: Presumed frontrunner Sabrina was eliminated, stunning the
contestants, fans and judges. Not all is lost for the Cheetah Girl — a week
later she admitted she and partner Mark were officially a couple.

Week Seven: It takes two to tango and two dances to stay in! The remaining couples
take the floor twice — with Cheetah paw tattoos in honor of their lost sister —
and Mel and Maks once again come out on top with a total of 54. Five weeks
after Jane’s mother’s death, Marie loses her father, Osmond patriarch George,
and misses the results show as well.

Result: Jane departs after fulfilling a childhood dream of dancing.

Week Eight: After three straight weeks on top, Mel and Maks
relinquished first place to Helio and Julianne, who edged them by one point
with 57.

Result: Despite a two-point advantage over Marie, Cameron and Edyta Sliwinska
said bye-bye — evidence that not even a soap fan base can rival that of the
Osmonds.

Week Nine: Locked in first place are Mel and Maks and Helio and Julianne with each couple receiving a perfect 60 for two dances — a show first.

Result: Last season, Ian Ziering was sent back to 90210 at the semifinals
and the same was true for his former co-star Jennie. The actress, who received
a perfect 30 for her cha-cha-cha and a second encore performance, tearfully left, ensuring Mel, Helio and Marie spots in the final three.

The Readers Have Spoken!

October 24th, 2007 / Author: cwillett

As Ryan Seacrest says, “The results are in!”

OK! has crunched the numbers on today’s polls, and this is
what you – yes, you! – are currently thinking, loving and hating.

Despite his earnest attempts and unyielding work ethic, Dallas Mavericks owner
Mark Cuban got the ax on Dancing With the Stars
last night, which nearly 60% of you predicted. Good job! And having
seen the results, you’re feeling even more ruthless — with more than
80% of you happy to see the billionaire bounced from the show.

You remained almost as passionate when it came to Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s
jet-setting ways. OK! took a peek inside the 1-year-old’s hectic travel schedule and over 70% of readers feel Brangelina need
to stay put for a change.

Speaking of change, more than half the readers said Britney Spears shouldn’t get any time with her boys
until she wakes up and smells the coffee. However, nearly 30% of you feel the
opposite because, hey, she’s their mom, you say! What a tight race!

You were also divided on Jessica Simpson’s venture into country music. OK! reported
that the buxom blonde has landed in Nashville
to record a country album. 55% of you say it’s a terrible idea, while
45 % say “Ride ‘em, cowgirl!”

And while Jess settles in Nashville, Jennifer Aniston is settling down on-screen with Woody Harrelson in Management.
But only a third of you want her to find hubby No. 2, while nearly
two-thirds of you are unsure. One thing’s for certain though — no one
wants to see her single!

Lastly, OK! exclusively confirmed the name of Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher’s
daughter today. It’s Olive. What did you think of the moniker? 50% of
readers are indifferent, while the other half are gagging at the name.

Marie Osmond: “I’m Really Fine!”

October 24th, 2007

Dancing With the Stars’ Marie Osmond told OK! the day after passing out on national television that she’s doing great and is ready to perform next week.

“I’m
really fine,” Marie said. “I checked my e-mail and the response has
been incredibly sweet. I told Jon it makes me want to go out and kick
some booty and come back really strong with the paso doble, which is a
fun dance. I told him, ‘I want to be the bull and I want to kill you!’

But Marie wasn’t as strong as a bull on Monday’s performance show, when she fainted while waiting for her scores with partner Jonathan Roberts.

After Tuesday’s results show, which saw billionaire Mark Cuban
get the boot, Marie blamed allergies for the scary swoon. “I do have
really bad allergies and I haven’t done my inhaler. I didn’t have it
with me…[and] the air quality is so bad [due to the L.A. fires].

“Everybody backstage—they are putting hemorrhoid cream on their eyes because we’re swelling. It’s really bad air.”

Marie
says the fainting episode had nothing to do with her Nutrisystem diet —
which, along with dancing, has resulted in a more than twenty pound
weight loss. “I’m not on diet pills. My Nutrisystem diet is so healthy.
Nutritionally, I supplement. I don’t think I’ve ever been in better
shape.”

Mark Cuban Can’t Buy Success on DWTS

October 24th, 2007

Mark Cuban’s billions couldn’t keep him from being eliminated from Dancing With the Stars on Tuesday.

After his I Dream of Jeannie–inspired samba routine with partner Kym Johnson didn’t move enough fans of the hit ABC reality show, the business tycoon found himself in an unfamiliar position — on the losing end of the deal.

“Because I’m competitive, I’m disappointed. I wanted to keep going on. But at the same time I’m realistic,” said Mark, 49, who had no previous dance experience. “The whole thing was a blast.”

He’s looking forward to spending time with wife Tiffany and their two children, ages 4 and 1.

“The next step is to go home and spend a lot of time with my kids,” the Dallas Mavericks owner told OK!. “The basketball season starts, so the timing actually wasn’t bad. We start a week from tomorrow. I’ll kick right into basketball and being a dad again. My wife was telling me [my daughter] was saying, ‘I miss my daddy,’ and rubbing the TV screen. As fun as it’s been and as proud I am of what we’ve accomplished, you learn real quickly family is the most important thing.”

Mark got something else worth a lot from his five-week stint on the show—a brand new body. “I’m down 34 pounds,” Mark told OK!. “I was about 225. Now I’m at 191. It’s incredible. My wife is grabbing my arms now, feeling my stomach.”

When asked how he’ll maintain the weight loss after leaving the show, Mark said, “That’s the question of a lifetime. I’ll just start working out. My eating habits have changed a lot and I’ve learned about what takes the weight off now. I can stay on a bike and instead of really trying to push it, stay on there for an hour and then come back at night and do the same thing to match the Kym Johnson super-duper workout!”

Meanwhile, the basketball tycoon is ready to buy another sports team — the cursed but beloved Chicago Cubs baseball team. The match could be a perfect fit, as Mark’s last name already starts with C-U-B. “Put the Cub in Cuban,” he smiled to OK!. “I’m very interested in buying the Cubs. It’s a business process and I have to go through the process.”

Wayne Newton Eliminated From Dancing With the Stars

October 10th, 2007

Wayne Newton gave dancing a shot, but now he’s going back to what he does best — singing!

“I’ll be doing some concert dates on the road in the next two or three weeks,” the 65-year-old crooner explained to OK! following his elimination Tuesday night. “Then I open in Vegas on Nov. 7.” The music legend also has a new CD coming out. “It’s a compilation of some of my favorite songs that I’ve recorded,” he tells OK!. “I’ve gone and redone them because some of them are aging, so I decided to put a different twist on them.”

As for getting the boot from the hit ABC show, Wayne, who got voted off when his tango was more fizzle than sizzle, explains to OK! that, “It’s a bittersweet thing. I’m going to miss some incredibly talented and nice people. On the other hand, I’m looking forward to getting a good night’s sleep and a day off, spending some time with my wife and children. I’ve learned it’s not about winning or losing, it’s enjoying the trip along the way.”

Fellow dancer Mark Cuban tells OK! he’s sad to see the Vegas King go. “I got to be close to Wayne. Our daughters are about the same age and spend a lot of time together. He was the ear everybody turned to for some fatherly advice.”

And Spice Girl Mel B. said she plans to stay friends with Wayne. “He’s a legend. Me and my husband are going to go to Vegas, because he has a big zoo — penguins and horses and everything!”

Jane Seymour’s Support System

October 9th, 2007

Monday night, only a week after the tragic passing of her mother, Mieke Frankenberg, at the age of 92, actress Jane Seymour was back in front of the Dancing With the Stars audience, wowing the judges with her tango, a dance she dedicated to the memory of her mom. And, though they’re all fierce competitors on the dance floor, Jane’s fellow celebrity rug-cutters were there for her, providing all the comfort they could behind the scenes.

“We
talked about her mom,” Marie Osmond, who lost her own mother, Olive, two years ago, told OK!. “And we were saying how our mothers’ funerals were
very similar — joyous, there was humor, there was tenderness, it was a
celebration of a wonderful woman’s life.”

As for how Jane is handling the loss? “She hasn’t processed it yet, but she’s a tough lady,” Marie explained. “The dancing is good. I think it keeps her mind busy.”

Cameron Mathison added, “It affected everybody. It was really nice to
see how we all came together for her. All of our hearts are going out
to her. It was emotional backstage.”

And Mark Cuban provided Jane with a gift worth more than the billions of dollars he has in the bank — a hug from a friend.
