Report: Arrest Expected in Ruffalo Case

December 30th, 2008

After a long month of bac-and-forth in the shooting death of Mark Ruffalo’s brother, Scott Ruffalo, TMZ is reporting that law enforcement officials are planning to arrest someone for murder.

Although two people were detained as persons of interest in the case, they were eventually released. The lawyer for Shaha Adham said police had been convinced that Scott died during a game of Russian roulette – however the L.A. County coroner later ruled his death a homicide, not accidental suicide.

No names have been released as to who will be arrested, but TMZ’s sources indicate that whoever it is will be charged with murder.

Scott Ruffalo’s Death Ruled Homicide

December 17th, 2008

In a surprising turn of events, the L.A. County Coroner’s Office has ruled 39-year-old Scott Ruffalo’s death a homicide – not a suicide as previously reported.

The investigation closed on Wednesday. Coroner spokesman Craig Harvey says someone shot Ruffalo in the head, but have yet to name any other suspects.

Beverly Hills police arrested, but later released a 26-year-old woman whom they suspected of the shooting. The woman’s attorney said at the time of her release that Ruffalo shot himself in the head playing Russian Roulette.

So far she has not been re-arrested. Police have not released a motive in the case. Ruffalo, who is the brother of actor Mark Ruffalo, was shot and killed early Dec. 1. He died a week later.

December 11th, 2008

Mark Ruffalo has pulled out of a role in a new comedy-drama Greenburg, directed by indie darling Noah Baumbach, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Ben Stiller is said to be replacing him, which would be a move away from straight comedy for the funnyman.

While no reason was given for the switch, the news comes on the heels of Mark’s family tragedy, after his brother Scott Ruffalo apparently shot himself in the head playing Russian roulette and passed away a week later.

Amy Adams was also supposed to star in ithe film, but she has left the project as well. The film will most likely follow Baumbach’s theme of quirky relationships like in The Squid and the Whale.

Suspect Cleared in Ruffalo Shooting

December 9th, 2008

Shaha Mishaal Adham, one of the two suspects the Beverly Hills Police were holding as a suspect in the shooting death of Scott Ruffalo, has been released after she told police that Ruffalo shot himself while playing with a gun.

An attorney for Adham said his client has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

"This was an accidental shooting by someone that plays with guns," lawyer Ronald Richards told the Associated Press. He said the police had been "more than impartial with the facts," and that Adham had only been a witness to a game of Russian Roulette.

Richards claims that Scott Ruffalo’s wound was self-inflicted and that Adham left after retrieving her car keys. Scott died Monday after being removed from life support, and his family released a statement thanking well wishers.

"Mark Ruffalo and his family deeply appreciate the outpouring of prayers and support during this most difficult time of the passing of Scott Ruffalo, beloved son, brother and husband. The funeral service will be private. A memorial fund has been established in Scott Ruffalo’s name."

The family is asking that donations be made to:

Mark Ruffalo’s Brother Dies

December 9th, 2008

After being shot in the head a week ago in his Beverly Hills apartment, Scott Ruffalo, brother of actor Mark Ruffalo, has passed away, according to the Associated Press.

Beverly Hills Police Sgt. Renato Moreno says the 39-year-old died late Monday night at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A., after clinging to life for a week.

Shaha Mishaal Adham and Brian Scofield were wanted for questioning, and turned themselves in yesterday. Adham was also named as a suspect in the case yesterday, and a court date has been tentatively scheduled for Wednesday.

Now according to the NY Daily News, Adham is insisting through her attorney that Scott Ruffalo "shot himself accidentally during a high-risk game of Russian Roulette."

Her attorney tells the paper, "We expect the coroners report to show the shooting was a result of victim’s chronic playing of Russian Roulette and his dangerous playing with firearms while under the use of controlled substances."

The attorney adds, "My client was a good friend of the victim and is very sad for the loss of his family. However, she played no role whatsoever in his accidental death."

The attorney said that Ruffalo was found with a gunshot wound in his Beverly Hills condo a week ago. Adding, "I can confirm that my client was present when Mr. Ruffalo shot himself. She was picking up some keys."

He also added that the gun belongs to Ruffalo, who he alledges was also a known cocaine user who would use drugs often and play with guns in front of several witnesses.
