Mary Louise Parker: Single in High School

May 18th, 2009

Mary Louise Parker is a talented actress, single mother and a beauty of both the stage and screen. So it’s a bit surprising to hear that she was far from the most popular girl in her high school.

"I never had a date in high school, not one,” she tells More magazine of her crippling awkwardness. That all changed when she went off to college at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. At 17 she became an overnight success. “Every boy wanted to date me. It’s because I was at school with a bunch of artists, a bunch of freaks. It was OK to be what I was. Knowing this made me come out of myself.”

Mary Louise has had to come out of herself quite a bit, appearing on the stage and in movies, as well as the popular show, Weeds. But breaking up with ex Billy Crudup while she was pregnant is something else that’s made her think about someone besides herself.

“I’ve never commented on the situation, and I won’t because it’s not fair to my son," she says, before adding, “Who wins? No child can benefit in that situation. Your love for your child should eclipse any other feelings you have for another person.”

And even for a gorgeous actress, it seems the dating scene can be tough these days for a single mom.

“Some men are daunted by it, some are really attracted," she explains. "I had someone ask, ‘Does this mean we can’t go out anytime we want?’ And I said, ‘Yes, that’s exactly what it means. It means you come fourth, ‘cause it’s my kids, my job, my family.’ I don’t ever want to come first to anyone. It’s too much pressure," she admits.

Romany Malco: “Getting Justin Out of the Speedo Was Hard!”

June 19th, 2008

The Love Guru’s Romany Malco is dishing the goods on his co-star Justin Timberlake. The singer, who famously dons a Speedo in the film, recently said he enjoyed putting his tiny swimsuit on, a sentiment Malco is happy to confirm.

"I think getting Justin out of the Speedo was hard," Malco told OK!. "I think he liked that feeling."

Malco, who starred in the first three seasons of the Showtime hit series Weeds, says he was pleased with Monday’s rating-topping season 4 premiere.

"Mary-Louise Parker is ridiculously entertaining," he says. "With the cameras rolling or off, if all else fails they can make it into a reality show, and I guarantee higher ratings."

Sherri Prides, Michelle Hides For ‘Sheba’

February 1st, 2008

It’s a frigid night when the stars step out for the opening of Broadway’s Come Back, Little Sheba at NYC’s Biltmore Theatre.

Mary-Louise Parker, Sherri Shepherd, Whoopi Goldberg, Michelle Pfeiffer, Valerie Harper and more are expected to put in face time to tout the revival of the 1950s drama about domestic discord.

“I’m really excited to see it,” The View’s Sherri says, holding in the shivers. “Normally I’d be in my flannels at home, so I’m coming out for my girl [S. Ephatha Merkerson]. I put glitter on, too.”

My red carpet pal tells me she can’t wait to see Mary-Louise because people tell her she looks just like her.

Valerie Harper thaws out inside the building. She tells me she’d like Julia Louis-Dreyfus to play her character Rhoda if there was a movie remake of The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

“I like her energy and she’s got a New York quality that would be good for Rhoda,” Valerie tells me.

Here’s Whoopi, who expresses her condolences about Heath Ledger.

“I thought he was a great kid,” she tells me. “I liked him a lot.”

Tamara Tunie can’t spend enough time posing for the camera, but fur-clad Michelle Pfeiffer covers her face as she rushes past photographers. Hm, why is she trying to hide?

Could it be? Is this Mary-Louise Parker? A woman wearing a fur hat is flamboyantly posing for photographers, and I grab her on the way into the theater. Oops! It’s a doppelganger – it’s actually Nanny Diaries star and two-time Tony Award winner Donna Murphy.

How does she balance marriage and motherhood?

“Day by day,” she tells me. “My priority is my daughter but the reality is I love to work and I need to work, so I try to not be too hard on myself. It’s hard. I look to my peers though as examples and sources of empathy. We all try to support each other.”

Ah, well. Mary-Louise will have to wait for another day.
