Bachelor Matt Finds Love Again

October 28th, 2008 / Author: matt

Far be it from us to say we weren’t the least bit shocked when the star of The Bachelor: London Calling, Matt Grant, and his "fiance" Shayne Lamas didn’t make it to the big white alter. But now, it seems Matt has found love again, this time with a fellow Brit.

The 28-year-old has fallen in love with his public relations rep, British-born Sarah Robarts. A mother of two and 11 years older, Robarts, 39, first met Grant following his appearance on The Bachelor. At the time, Grant says it was all business, but even so he says, "I couldn’t help but to think, ‘Man she’s hot.’"

"It’s turned into the best relationship I have ever been in," Grant, whom OK! caught up with at the Athletes for Obama fundraiser, says now of their relationship. "I’m completely in love. She’s extremely beautiful inside and out.  She’s one in a million."

Grant, whose rocky relationship with Lamas, 22, ended officially in July, says he and Robarts went out for drinks and it turned into a date. "We connected on every level," he says. "If she had been on The Bachelor, there would not have been a competition.  It would’ve been the shortest season ever."

As far as the new couple’s age difference, Matt says it’s not a problem.

"Age is not an issue," he says. "Sarah is very much on my level. The only thing is I’ve had to bring my game up since The Bachelor. She’s way too intelligent for some of the talk I used on the show."

But if you think these two are headed for the altar, think again.  Matt says they have no plans to rush their relationship.  "I’m trying to play this cool, but I feel blessed," he says.  "We have a wonderful relationship and I hope we continue forever."

He adds, "It’s just so ironic that I came all the way over from England to find love on The Bachelor in America.  And in the end, I fall in love with a Brit."

No Wedding Date Yet for Bachelor’s Matt & Shayne

July 10th, 2008

So far, no Bachelor coupling has made it to the altar yet — though Bachelorette Trista Sutter has — and the show’s latest lovebirds are determined to be the first.

Matt Grant proposed to Shayne Lamas, daughter of Lorenzo Lamas, on the season finale of The Bachelor: London Calling, and Lorenzo says the two are still on track for a wedding.

"They’re together and they love each other," Lorenzo, who will compete on the new season of Gone Country, tells OK!. "They haven’t set a date yet."

Shayne is Lorenzo’s daughter with Michele Smith and beat out Chelsea Wanstrath for Matt’s heart. And Shayne isn’t only one who’s enamored with Matt. Lorenzo adds that he approves of his future son-in-law!

The Bachelor’s Holly on Her Ouster!

April 14th, 2008 / Author: cwillett

Could ya’ll believe it last week on The Bachelor when British hunk Matt Grant gave Marshana a rose during the two-on-one date, sending Holly Durst immediately packing? Only last week he had been heating things up with Holly on the Made of Honor red carpet and in a hot tub! I had to know if Holly was still po’ed about her abrupt elimination. Turns out, not so much.

“Not getting a rose was a blessing in disguise,” Holly tells me. “There’s something better out there for me, so I was happy for the end result.”

Could that be because the 25-year-old children’s book author, who’s been linked to American Idol alum Justin Guarini, is already betrothed to another? “There were rumors I was engaged to my illustrator, and that’s why I left the show,” Holly laughs. “That’s definitely not true. Not at all.”

And no, there won’t be a second chance if Matt decides he made a mistake. “I’d go out and have fun, but I don’t think a relationship could come out of it,” Holly declares. “He’s not my kind of guy, and I realized that when I left the show.”

Holly, whose first book, I Miss You, is out this summer, thinks Amanda has the best chance of getting the final rose from Matt. But don’t count Marshana out. “She was giving him a lap dance on another show and I was watching his reaction,” Holly says. “He seemed to be very into it.”

The Bachelor: London Calling airs Monday, April 14 at 10 p.m. on ABC.

More Secrets From the Bachelor

March 17th, 2008 / Author: cwillett

There was no way ABC was going to have a repeat of last season’s disastrous final rose ceremony on The Bachelor (Brad Womack wimped out and left both girls empty-handed). So the network traveled to England to find a hot new specimen, 27-year-old financier Matt Grant, who had never seen the show. I spoke with Bachelor host Chris Harrison, who gave me the scoop of the upcoming season. (We can only hope Matt hasn’t learned that the Bachelor is supposed to dump his new love within weeks of the show’s finale!)

Chris, why is this the season to watch?

It’s probably the best season we’ve ever done. We have really good girls, dynamic, whether it’s craziness or cattiness, and we have this foreign bachelor. It was kind of like starting over with the Bachelor from day one because he had never seen the show. It was kind of fun to be with someone who didn’t fall into the same traps and the same bachelor speak they all fall into. It made it very interesting.

Did the girls come in knowing Matt is English?

They had no clue. They had seen no pictures, no names and no background. We told Matt not to tell the girls he was from England to see if they could figure out where he’s from.

Is Matt genuine in his search for love?

I was very skeptical of him because my thoughts were, “Why is this guy coming over from London to do The Bachelor? What could his motivation be?” But the more I got to know him and the more the season went along, the more I saw that he’s incredibly intelligent and a very genuine guy. It’s very rare the more a season goes on, the more we like our bachelors and bachelorettes. But everyone really loves Matt. He’s very sincere.

Since no Bachelor has ever gotten married, why should viewers believe this one will?

This is not a game show. You don’t have the promise or guarantee you’re going to win a million dollars, or that we’re going to roll out a priest and get a wedding. The interesting thing about our show is that it’s kind of a double sword, it’s up to human will in the end. Like Andrew Firestone and Jen Schefft, I would have bet a million dollars that they would have gone on and gotten married. They were living together in San Francisco and had this fairy tale life and then they break up. Then you have a guy like Charlie O’Connell and Sarah Brice, who I would have guessed would have stayed together maybe 30 seconds after the tape stopped rolling. And they lived together and stayed together for several years. Byron Velvick and Mary Delgado are still together and they might get married. This season, we’ll just have to see what Matt does. I know he’s very happy with who he chose and they are very much in love. Our fingers are definitely crossed for them.

So we do get a happy ending?

We know for a fact he is very happy and very much in love, which is surprising for this show. Our crew, we get just as sucked in as the viewers do. We’re sitting there at that final rose ceremony just hanging on every word. Is there going to be a proposal? How’s it going to end? Is he going to stay? I know some of our fans were peeved after what happened, but after seeing this, they’re going to be very back on board.

The Bachelor, season premiere, airs at 9:30 p.m. on ABC.

The Bachelor’s Matt Grant Reveals Secrets From the Show!

March 10th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

ABC’s new resident bachelor, Matt Grant, is hesitant to reveal too much about the upcoming season of The Bachelor, but he’s quick to assure OK! that the show fulfilled his expectations.

"I definitely found love and yes, they [the women] lived up to my expectations. It was incredible, I’m still buzzing about it now, the 6′5" British import says.

Grant, 27, tells OK! that he’s always been attracted to the confidence of American girls.  "At a really young age my brother brought back an American girl," he says. "She was really fun, pretty, outgoing and good with the family. From that point on I always had a thing for American girls. Plus they also tend to know a bit more about sports than British women."

Grant, a global financier, continues, "I was looking for a girl who was going to make me laugh… someone that’s going to stand out… it’s when you walk into a room and you say ‘that’s the one.’"

Given the grim track record of couples staying together after the show, did Grant have reservations? The Brit says he didn’t watch previous seasons and had no knowledge of the show before he agreed to do it.

"The previous guys weren’t me," Grant explains. "I was confident that I could come on this and be myself… I’m not too concerned with track records."

So assuming Grant did find his ‘lady love’ on the show, does he plan to take her back to England or is he contemplating a move to the U.S.? "It’s not up to me, we’d have to discuss," he says. "Either country is great. They are the two best countries in the world."

The season premiere of The Bachelor airs March 17 on ABC

Meet the New Bachelor!

February 5th, 2008 / Author: cwillett

To the men of America — keep an eye open because there’s a 6′5" British hunk crossing the Atlantic to steal your women as the next Bachelor! His name is Matt Grant, and he’s a global financier who was introduced to the world on Monday night’s episode of Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann.

OK! got the 27-year-old stud to chat about the upcoming 12th season of The Bachelor, which premieres March 17.

Matt’s reason for wanting to be the object of desire for 25 gorgeous gals? “I’m a single guy, I’m a red-blooded male," he explains to OK!. "I have the opportunity to date hot American women. Enough said.”

The Londoner jokes that what separates him from his American counterparts is “the geeky accent.” He adds, “I don’t think there’s a massive chasm between British guys and American guys. We drink more tea and have some crazy sports like cricket. I like to consider myself a British gentleman.”

He’s looking for a woman “to make me laugh and someone who is very social, close to family and friends and someone who is smart, who can challenge me. American women are much more sporty than British women. I love their flirty side.”

But career-minded applicants beware — this hunky financier would want his chosen bachelorette to become a mom fairly quickly. He’s the youngest of five brothers and his father Tony, now 71, was an older father when Matt was born. “I’m ready to start a family,” he says. “Dad had a stroke at the end of 2006 and that really shook me. I want my kids to know my father, because he was a great father to me and I want him to be a grandfather to them. I wouldn’t mind [having] three or four kids.”

Surprisingly, Matt confessed to OK! that he’s never seen The Bachelor because it’s only shown on satellite in the UK. “I was coming into this a little bit fresh and free from any constraints that might hit me from watching it.”

While he gets accustomed to American TV, Matt is still loyal to his favorite UK magazine. “I love OK!” he says.

Watch for the season premiere of The Bachelor, March 17 on ABC.
