Denied: No Big-Screen Reunion for Friends

July 7th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

As reported by OK! last week, it looks like any rumors you’ll be seeing a big-screen version of hit NBC sitcom Friends are just that — rumors.

Not long after the first report appeared in London’s Daily Mail last week, reps for several of the show’s stars came out of the woodwork to shoot down the report that the cast, spurred on by the success of the recent Sex and the City feature film, had agreed to get together one last time.

"Nothing is happening in this regard," said Matthew Perry’s rep in a statement. "The rumor is false."

This sentiment was echoed by David Schwimmer’s publicist, who said, "there’s been no discussion about it."

And dealing the final blow to the rumor was a rep for Jennifer Aniston, who said that his client was unaware of any such project, and who questioned by she would have any interest in revisiting her sitcom days.

Rumor Mill: Friends Reunion in the Works?

July 3rd, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

It looks like the success of the recent big-screen version of Sex and the City has gotten the rumor mill turning about almost every formerly huge TV show. The latest blast from the past alleged to be making the leap to the silver screen is none other than ’90s sitcom phenomenon Friends — if you believe London’s Daily Mail.

According to a report in the British tabloid, all six stars — including Jennifer Aniston — of the hit NBC comedy are eager to reprise their roles in a feature film adaptation that would be released "within the next 18 month."

However, studio insiders tell OK! this is all just wishful thinking.

"There’s no way Jen, or really any of the others, would want to do this," explains one exec. "They’ve all spent the last four years trying to distance themselves from these iconic characters, this would be seen as just a crass cash-in."

And, points out another source, the Friends scenario just isn’t fit for the big screen.

"With SATC, those were always lifelike, dramatic characters that you could envision in a feature-length film," explains the insider. "But Friends exists in that sitcom world where 23 minutes is exactly about how long you can stand these people for at a time."

New Couple Alert? Lindsay Price & Matthew Perry

February 6th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

At the unofficial party for Lipstick Jungle at Dip in NYC on Feb. 2, former Friends star Matthew Perry had partygoers confused — Why was he there when he’s not on the show?

Well, according to one source, it appears that the 38-year-old actor might have a semi-secret thing going with one of the new show’s stars — the lovely Lindsay Price. "He snuck in to meet up with Lindsay," the source reveals to OK!, adding that the pair exited the club together later in the evening.

The 31-year-old beauty has reportedly ended her three-year marriage to TV producer Shawn Piller.

Jennifer Morrison: I’m Not Dating Matthew Perry

January 17th, 2008

Usually when couples break up, they go their separate ways — not so in TV land. Jennifer Morrison and Jesse Spencer terminated their engagement last year but must still see each other every day on the set of their show, House.

Still, there are no hard feelings.

"The last several months have been really nice," Jennifer tells OK! at the Cloverfield premiere.

She’s definitely not the first person forced to work with their ex — Sophia Bush works with ex-husband Chad Michael Murray on One Tree Hill and recently told OK! they still "have a lot of fun together."

As for Jennifer’s current love life, don’t trust those rumors linking her to Matthew Perry.

"He’s a good friend," the 28-year-old says. "He’s a friend. He’s great."

So she’s single then?

"I’ve just been figuring out who I am and what I want. I’m going to surf camp in San Diego!"

According to a story in the Hollywood Reporter, 38-year-old  Friends alum Matthew Perry is all set to play the grown-up version of dreamy-eyed High School Musical star Zac Efron in the upcoming teen comedy 17. A movie, whose plot is remarkably similar to the previous hits Big but in reverse.

Shooting is scheduled to begin soon on the movie about a dad (Matthew) who wakes up to find he’s 17 (Zac) again and enrolls in high school to be close to his kids.

So what do you think? Is there a resemblance between these two stars?

Frasier it was not.

Still trying to hang onto every last ounce of Friends success, NBC launched the poorly constructed spin off Joey three years ago to high expectations and fanfare, to which it ultimately failed to live up.

Inheriting its parental "Must-See TV" time slot of Thursday nights at 8 p.m., Joey bowed to an opening night of 18.6 million viewers, good enough to be deemed a "hit" and the "No. 1 new comedy of the season."

That label is a tad misleading, as it’s easy to be No. 1 even as your ratings slide when there’s virtually no competition.

It seems people weren’t as interested in following the uneven trajectory of Joseph Francis Tribbiani’s career as they were in watching six people hang out in a coffee shop during the workday.

Or maybe it also has to do with the show just… not being good?

In any event, the comedy still managed two People’s Choice Awards, a Golden Globe nomination and a second season renewal despite a season-ending ranking of an un-Friends-esque of 40.

Ratings got even more anemic its sophomore year — it got so bad that eventually Joey quietly faded away into the night without so much as a "How you doin’?"

Adding insult to injury? Unlike, say, Just Shoot Me before it or Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip after it, NBC never burned off its remaining eight episodes.

Maybe they like Matthew Perry better.

Where is Matt LeBlanc anyway?
