Mena Suvari hasn’t yet set a date for her nuptials, saying they’ll take place “maybe next year,” but she is moving full steam ahead with the planning aspect.
The actress, 30, announced her engagement to music producer-promoter Simone Sestito in July, and hopes to wed in Italy.
So what’s her favorite part of arranging her nuptials?
“Knowing that one day it will happen,” she tells OK! during USA Network’s American Character: A Photographic Journey launch held at Stephan Weiss Gallery in NYC on March 12. “I think it’s just the whole essence of it. Thinking about how it should really be your most important, special day, and getting your family together. Simone and I really want to make it everything we always wanted it to be.”
After Suvari ended her marriage of six years to cinematographer Robert Brinkmann in 2006 citing irreconcilable differences, Simone gave her the courage to fall in love again. They met in L.A. through a mutual friend, and reconnected during the Toronto International Film Festival in 2007. They’ve been together ever since, and she is certain he’s “The One.”
“I think you just know,” Mena reveals to OK!. “It’s a feeling. Yeah. Relationships are challenging, but I love him and he’s very good to me. I think you know when you know.”
Bouncing back after divorcing a man 17 years her senior wasn’t easy, but she’s come out on top. What advice would she share with others in dealing with divorce?
“I think it’s most important for people to get in touch with themselves and really get to know who they are and what they want and establish goals,” Mena tells OK!. “Be positive. There’s only sunshine that lies ahead. You have to continuously move forward because it doesn’t make sense to live in the past.”

When OK! caught up with actress Mena Suvari and fiancé, concert promoter Simone Sestito, at the opening of the new Hugo Boss store in NYC’s Meatpacking District, we wanted to know how the couple were doing with plans for their upcoming nuptials.
And while the couple says they’re taking their time to make sure they get everything picture perfect, they did reveal that they’re heading to Europe next week to seek out the ideal Italian site for the ceremony.
"We’re getting married in Rome," Simone tells OK!. "That’s where I’m from and I have a lot of family there so we just decided that would be the best place."
And the timing couldn’t be better for their church-hunting expedition. "We’re going there for the Rome Film Festival because I have a movie premiering there called Garden of Eden," Mena explains to OK!. "So we’re going to use the opportunity to look at a few places."
Mena, who tells OK! she’ll be wearing a wedding gown designed by a friend at Alice + Olivia, says that she sees the big day in her mind as, "Definitely something big and romantic… Italian weddings are always big."
With so much to plan, it’s no surprise that Mena and Simone aren’t jumping the gun on their "I do"s.
"It’s a lot of planning," she explains. "We’re taking our time with it. I really want it to be right. We’re not rushing. I don’t want to do that because I want to look back and have it be everything that I wanted."
After all that wedding talk, we had to know if the couple, who got engaged in July while on vacation in Jamaica, are already thinking about kids. "Not soon," Simone reveals to OK!. "But definitely for sure. I’m very traditional… I want three kids."
So what is the secret to their happiness? "I guess we kind of have the same lifestyle," says Simone. "I’m in the music business so I’m always on the road doing concerts and stuff. She understands what I do and I understand what she does so it works well."

Maggie Gyllenhaal points to her diamond-encrusted watch saying “my daughter wears this” during the launch party for Piaget’s Paris-New York collection held at The Loft and Garden at Rockefeller Center in NYC.
Meanwhile, newly engaged Mena Suvari dashes between the inside party and the outside garden to show off her rock to pals Emmy Rossum and Zoe Kravitz, saying “It’s from my boyfriend – now my fiancé.”
Liv Tyler is in good spirits, shaking hands and smiling when she elevators into the soiree. A reporter asks, “How do you keep your teeth so white?,” which she calls “the most embarrassing question ever!”
Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester greets me with “hi, how are you?” while she is chilling by the pool outside. This is just the first event on her sked tonight. “I’m actually going to see the Police right now,” she says.
Here’s Emmy, who attended NYC’s posh Spence School. Was it anything like Gossip Girl? “Yes, but with less testosterone,” she tells me. “I don’t think there was as many tables at Butter or as many Prada handbags, but probably close.” (Get this — she’s allergic to toothpaste!)
Ugly Betty’s Becki Newton is thrilled with the show’s move to the Big Apple.
“It’s going great,” she tells me. “It’s so nice to be shooting in New York City, especially when we’re outside. We’re so, so happy to be here.”
She calls Rebeccca Romijn a “happy, warm person. She’s going to be a great mom.”
What’s Becki’s fashion mantra?
“Try to have fun and not worry too much,” she says. “I don’t like to limit myself. One minute I’m obsessed with color, and then today I’m all in black. There really are no rules. I just try everything.”
