Sunday Night TV Roundup

OK!’s Joyce Eng breaks down the TV show of the night: A Super Bowl special House!

House: First off, I just have this to say: Cutthroat Bitch!!!! She’s back! And dating Wilson. WTF? Back to that later. Dr. Kate Milton (Mira Sorvino), a psychiatrist, has fallen ill — with vomiting and a collapsed lung to boot — in the South Pole and enlists House’s help via webcam. She puts up quite a fight against many of his diagnoses, including kidney stones, cancer and an autoimmune disease. During a lymph node search, Kate must give herself a body examination nude while House watches on from the comfort of his living room. She refuses at first until he shows her his digs, and he does, to which she replies, "You’d rather show me your soul than show me your leg." Dead on. And just as the examination was heating up, House pops in "Let’s Get It On." Classic. These two have major chemistry just from the computer screens. They find a swollen lode in her abs and she performs a biopsy, which leads to House diagnosing it as an autoimmune disease. She declines to take Prednisone, so Foreman suggests she go outside to see if she feels better, which would confirm it as autoimmune. She faints before she can get a shoe on. One of her crew guys, Shawn (Jeff Hephner), comes to her rescue and House orders him to drink her urine to see if the disease is in the kidneys or in her brain. He doesn’t object and House realizes he’s in love with her and would do anything. Drinking urine = true love! It tastes watery, which means it’s in the brain so he drills into her skull. She wakes up and House is at a loss. After getting a stern talking-to from House earlier about standing up to him instead of wimping around afraid of getting fired (he made them try to convince Cameron to get free cable back for the hospital), Kutner mans up and suggests she could have fat emboli in her system. House realizes he never saw her feet during the exam because she didn’t want to take off her socks — well now she does and she has a broken toe! The bone marrow oozed out of the toe into her body but she didn’t feel any pain in her foot because she was numb. All that from a broken toe! In a delicious B-plot, Wilson has a new gal pal whom he keeps hiding from House – it’s absolutely hilarious when he awkwardly bolts from the hospital to avoid more questioning – and it turns out to be none other than CTB to House’s and my shock! I knew she wasn’t gone for good! What a random yet brilliant coupling! – Joyce

Mira Sorvino sets an example for her kids

Reservation Road star Mira Sorvino, 40, is mom to Mattea, 2, and Johnny, 1, with hubby of three years Chris Backus, 25.

Has she become choosier with her roles?

“I want them to be proud of what I did when I was their mom,” she says. “You definitely are aware of being an example for your children. I have two lives – one as an actor and one as an actress, and they don’t always intersect. Sometimes it’s just plain entertainment and for the love of it, and other times there’s a social message that’s coming through it.”

Why do she and her fifteen-years-younger hubby make the perfect couple?

“We love each other very deeply,” she tells me.

Mira Sorvino Wants to Set Example for Her Kids

October 19th, 2007

Mira Sorvino knows she’s not just leaving behind a legacy for film history, but for her kids as well.

The Oscar winner has two children, Mattea, 2, and Johnny, 15 months, with actor-husband Christopher Backus, 25, and tells OK! at the Trade premiere that she’s become more conscious of movie roles since becoming a mom.

“Certainly wanting them to be proud of what I did when I was their mom definitely weighs in,” the 39-year-old says. “You definitely are aware of being an example for your children. I have two lives — one as an actor and one as an actress, and they don’t always intersect. Sometimes it’s just plain entertainment and for the love of it and other time there’s a social message that’s coming through it.”

The social message in Trade is the preponderance of sex trafficking. Mira is not in the film, but did star in a similarly themed 2005 TV movie called Human Trafficking and hopes the new drama will raise awareness.

“It’s a terrible, terrible, sad fact that human beings around the world are being sold into slave labor in a way that we thought was behind us,” she says. “It’s not at all. In fact, it’s growing. It’s the third most profitable criminal enterprise in the world behind arms-trading and drugs.”

Trade opens on Friday.
