okmirandafashionCountry singer Miranda Lambert can’t get enough of Rihanna’s style.

“She is constantly surprising me with her style and inspiring me to break out and try new things,” the 25-year-old beauty, whose new album Revolution is out now, tells me. “Well, I don’t necessarily get inspired by the whole no-bra thing, [laughs] but I love that you never know what she’s going to wear. It always keeps you guessing, which makes her sassy and interesting.”

Recession-style soire

June 30th, 2009

I’ve found a clothing line with a philosophy I can really relate to.
I was recently introduced to Junk Gyspy, an online store filled with finds from the females in the Sikes family – two sisters and a mom who travel about collecting gems from jewelry to clothing and home décor that they think should be rescued and sold to someone who will appreciate them. (http://www.gypsyville.com/)

They say “We believe in the journey, not the destination,” as they take roads less traveled to uncover treasures in places many shoppers wouldn’t normally look.

Like the Sikes, I’ve long said for me life is about enjoying the journey, not reaching the destination – because what happens if you spend your whole life just commuting, and then don’t even like the place you find yourself at the end?

Also like the Sikes, I’m fortunate to have a lot of things. The things are a combination of my shopping habit (not Confessions of a Shopaholic bad, just an art that I’m adept at), gift bags from parties etc.

All of this ‘stuff’ has allowed me to re-gift often, send packages home to friends and family and have products aplenty for houseguests. It’s also helped me discover new things –I’m newly obsessed with Mally make-up. I have, thanks to swag bags and samples I get sent, a vanity full of make-up at home that could rival the cosmetic section of a drug store, but the other day I was sent a bunch of Mally, that’s sold on QVC, and it’s a collection of all the colors I love in adorable portable packaging. Who would have thought of shopping on QVC for makeup?

But, I digress. Given all of my stuff, I’m giving others a chance to be like the Junk Gypsies and come over to my house for a friends swap – which in the recession era I think is a fun way to have an afternoon party.

For my stuff swap, I sent out the following email, with the attached photo of Miranda Lambert in Junk Gypsy:

Like the Jewish grandmother who just doesn’t know how to throw anything away,
and in the vein of ‘one man’s trash is another’s treasure,’ I’m planning a Jewish Garage Sale party.

I’m cleaning out my closets and rather than throw away random products and accessories or give away clothes I’m just bored of (or won’t fit me no matter how long they hang in the closet), I think it would be fun to have a friend swap.

I’m sure many of you are like me and have more than tidily fits in the storage space of your home, so bring your things to my house, mark them $1 to $20 and lets trade things for nearly free with the proceeds going to an agreed upon charity.

For example, I was sent this darling Junk Gypsy tank top (as seen on Miranda Lambert) the other day - but there are certain places that a size small tank just doesn’t fit me ;)

Cheers

Miranda Lambert Gets Beauty Tips from Nicole Kidman

June 22nd, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

In the current issue of OK!, country star Miranda Lambert reveals that she takes her beauty advice from a good source — Nicole Kidman.

“I use sunscreen every day – SPF 85,” the country cutie, 25, tells OK!. “I tan a lot but not on my face. I heard that from Nicole Kidman. She said she uses sunscreen throughout the year, and she is so beautiful.”

Miranda calls herself a “lip-gloss freak,” and names her favorite beauty products as M.A.C. Lipglass in Prrr, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser and Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer.

In the fashion department, she can’t get enough of jeans and sundresses.

“I perform in jeans every night,” she says. “I jump around too much to wear a dress! My style is a little cosmo and a little country, with some rock ’n’ roll.”

When she’s not performing, Miranda enjoys spending her time on the road with her pups Delta Dawn and Delilah. “They’re always with me.”

Kelly Clarkson Wants to Record with Carrie Underwood

February 10th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

Kelly Clarkson grew up in Texas and now lives in Nashville, two places where country music reigns supreme. So will the pop princess attempt a crossover with a full country album after All I Ever Wanted hits stores in March?

"I never know what I’m gonna do in the future, but I grew up loving country music. It’s one of the things that’s been really close to me," Kelly says in a new interview with Popeater.com. "I did a lot of country events, so I think people were thinking I was gonna [record a country album]. But the thing I love about pop music is that you can kind of incorporate any style you want …There’s always gonna be those influences in my music, but I’ll probably never just do one thing. I would be bored out of my mind."

Kelly’s no stranger to country collaborations – she spent most of last year on tour with Reba McEntire, her partner on "Because of You," and she says she’d go down that duet road again with fellow American Idol winner, country’s reigning darling, Carrie Underwood.

"Definitely! She’s got a kick-butt voice," Kelly says of singing with Carrie. She’s not the only twangy songstress she’d like to work with, however, adding, "I like Miranda Lambert, too – I’m a huge fan of hers. I love Carrie, but the thing I dig about Miranda is she’s just so feisty. She doesn’t care. It’s very admirable, and I dig her writing."

Reese, Nicole, Shania Wow During CMAs

November 20th, 2008

I’m stationed near Maureen McCormick when I jet down to Nashville for the CMA Awards held at the Sommet Center. Woo-hoo!

Reese Witherspoon is radiant in red lipstick – shockingly gorgeous – but doesn’t answer when a reporter asks if she likes country music. Does she stay in a hotel when she’s in Nashville? Nah, she’s staying with her family. Nicole Kidman swans in with hubby Keith Urban, but steps back because she’s letting her hubby “enjoy his night.” Here’s Shania Twain, looking glam – and blonder – than I remember. Nice!

Energetic Miley Cyrus stops to chat, and her kind dad Billy Ray takes a photo of her limelight-loving boyfriend Justin Gaston with fawning female fans. Hahaha. And Taylor Swift is wearing 30-pound dress! “I cannot even believe I was able to walk to the red carpet,” she says. “Try to lift it up. It’s so heavy. It’s like wearing a bag of rocks, but I really like it, so I’m proud to wear this bag of rocks.”

Kellie Pickler has BFF Taylor’s back when it comes to boy troubles. “She’s like my little sister, so I’m very protective of her,” Kellie tells me. “She definitely comes first.” Now that Taylor is getting over the heartbreak of her relationship with Joe Jonas, Kellie is there as she finds a new man. “She just needs someone who is very respectful and understanding of her career,” Kel says. “You know, it’s very time-consuming what we do, so you need someone that’s confident and secure and just a good person. Just respectful.”

Dancing With The Stars performer Julianne Hough is out and about since her surgery for endometriosis. “Oh, I’m fine,” she tells me. “I’m honestly better than new. I feel great, and like I said, better than I felt before I even went in for surgery.” Her boyfriend, Chuck Wicks, was there through it all. “It was easy,” he tells me. “We rented a bunch of movies and we sat on the couch and ate popcorn. And we got a little puppy. Puppies can cure everything. Between the movies, popcorn and the puppy – and her mom was there as well –she recovered pretty quick. It was two weeks, and she was back on the dancefloor doing her thing.” (Bummer! She’s now off the show.)

What’s Reba McEntire’s pre-show ritual? “I just make sure my dress is correctly in place, I’ve got lipgloss on and I get onstage,” she says. “I am not that good at practical jokes, and they always think of better  — or worse ones – than I can.”

Dancing With The Stars/Hannah Montana star Cody Linley is here to support Julianne and see Miley, but he’s also getting back to his roots. “I actually lived in Columbia from the ages of two to four. I don’t remember much of it, but to see autumn and see what Nashville is all about and remember again is cool.” Sadly, he’s off the show, too, which is unfortunate considering he had the will to win. “I was just going to say that my birthday’s November 20, and November 25 is the finale of Dancing With The Stars, so it would be the best 19th birthday present a boy could get to have a mirrorball trophy. Man! Winning right there. That’s my hope.” Aww!

American Idol finalist Diana DeGarmo is thinking of Paula Abdul in the wake of the tragic fan incident that occurred outside her home. “Paula’s a wonderful person and she deserves great things,” Diana tells me. “She’s got a great personality and that’s a horrible thing to have to deal with. She’s in my prayers — definitely.”

Miranda Lambert confesses she’s a big eBay shopper whose maximum bid is $100. “I’m cheap.” Does she get upset when she’s outbid? “Yes, I do. I take it personal.” Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles can’t wait to dress warmer. “I’m too excited about winter coming up,” Jennifer says. “I’m into the layered look.”

The Little Big Town girls are in awe of tourmate Carrie Underwood. “She has the best legs in the business,” Kimberly Roads says. Karen Fairchild adds, “She’s a super-disciplined person, so she eats well and she exercises every day. We’re like ‘oh Lord, we’ve gotta up our game. In the gym!’”

Here’s Hootie and The Blowfish singer Darius Rucker. What’s the best marriage advice he’s received? “My wife is always right,” he laughs.

Lady Antebellum
take time to reveal their heights – Charles Kelley, 6’6,” Hillary Scott, 5’9,” and Dave Haywood, 6’1” – on the red carpet before they’re shocked by their big win for Best New Artist. They brought their moms as their dates.

“When I was younger, I didn’t attend the CMAs when [mom Linda Davis] won the CMA with Reba, but I was her date for a couple of different CMA Awards,” Hillary says. “For her to be here tonight as my date, and for her to have this crystal trophy on her shelf at home in the house I grew up in, and for me to be taking one home tonight is just crazy. She’s so proud. There’s nothing better than sitting there when the nominees were being read off and holding my mama’s hand. Knowing that she knew exactly what it felt like. We were so lucky to have our moms here. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them.”

Charles adds, “They were crying their eyes out.”

PRESS ROOM:  “I’ve never seen so much of Brad Paisley,” cohost Carrie Underwood gushes about his quick change backstage. The 45-second strip is also a highlight for Brad. “I was still getting dressed walking out,” he says. … Kenny Chesney, who has the hots for Shania, challenges Sugarland to take his Entertainer of the Year Award next year. … Rascal Flatts singer Joe Don Rooney calls fatherhood “amazing.” He says, “To be a father is just a big piece of that puzzle now that’s going to carry us on through the years.”

PARTY TIME: I catch Gretchen Wilson on her way inside the venue, Taylor Swift in the elevator at the Big Machine/Valory Records party and oh yes, there’s Jewel. The salmon and especially the mashed potatoes are amazing – so good! — at the official CMA Awards afterparty. Delish.

Miranda Lambert & Blake Shelton on Tour!

September 8th, 2008

No need to struggle with the rigors of a long-distance relationship - country stars and lovebirds Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton are going on tour together.

"For obvious reasons, Miranda and I have wanted to tour together for a while now," Blake says. "We wanted to do something special that nobody else can pull off. The result is a unique show packed full of music and energy that will leave people wondering what the hell is going to happen next."

Under the tour theme of "Seamless," the artists will play music from their current albums, accompanied by both of their bands: Miranda bringing out hits from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, the ACM’s reigning Album of the Year and Blake performing songs from his Pure BS deluxe album.

Throughout each show the two musicians will also perform acoustic sets together, before reuniting on stage with their bands for a grand finale.

"I’ve always thought that Blake is one of the greatest artists in country music and he brings such a dynamic presence to his performances," Miranda says. "Pairing up for these shows will not only be fun for us, but I think it’s going to be an amazing show for the fans."

Now that’s the way to have a career and a relationship!
