LC Blogs Good-Bye to The Hills
June 2nd, 2009
Well, it’s officially over: after years in front of MTV’s cameras, first on Laguna Beach and then The Hills, resident good girl Lauren Conrad is done putting her life on screen.
The reality TV alum chronicled her feelings about her experiences on the show, writing on her blog after the last episode aired. Kristin Cavallari arrived during the season finale to take over the role of lead blonde.
LC writes:
"Last night was my last episode of ‘The Hills’. It was a bittersweet night for me. A part of me is sad to say goodbye to something that has been such a prominent part of my life, but I know that it was time and I am very happy with my decision. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has watched and supported me over the years. While putting my personal relationships and struggles on television wasn’t always easy, the support I received from people made such a difference. Because of all of you, I was able to accomplish so many aspirations and for that I am very grateful. So, THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!
I have some interesting projects in the works and I will keep you all updated.
From what I’ve heard the next season will not disappoint :-)"

Today We’re Loving…
May 11th, 2009
Summer is here, the sun is shining, the beach beckons.
So it’s almost a shame that MTV has just come up with something that’s going to make you stare at a computer for hours at a time.
At The Vault, MTV and AT&T are digitizing tons footage from the last two decades of the networks’ output, and making it available online for the first time.
There’s everything from a hilarious early Mika interview, to a random, bizarre and seriously awkward encounter between Madonna some guy in the neighborhood where she grew up (both available exclusively on okmagazine.com, below), plus live performances and interviews.
The site is going to be "unlocking" 15 new clips each day here.
And if you’re just too impatient for that, there’s a trivia game that lets you see the next day’s clips early if you can answer three questions right.
So with hundred little pieces of music history ready to be unlocked, you can say goodbye to a few dozen hours of sunbathing time.
Oh well. At least you’ll save on sunblock.
CHECK out Madonna’s awkward encounter:
AND CHECK out Mika kidding around for the camera:
Pedro: A Life remembered
April 1st, 2009
Tonight, MTV will remember one its reality pioneers, Pedro Zamora, in a docudrama of the AIDS activist’s short life.
Pedro appeared on The Real World: San Francisco in 1994. Pedro, who was HIV positive, used his time on the show to help teach young people about disease.
“It’s been 15 years since we lost Pedro,” says former Real World housemate Judd Winick, who became one of Pedro’s closest friends. “Seeing this has been heartwarming.”
The story, which was four years in the making, chronicles Pedro life, from migrating to Miami as a child to his last days before succumbing to the disease at the young age of 22.
“In our memories and hearts, he never gets any older,” Judd shares.
“He was this incredibly young man who put himself out there, so others wouldn’t have to go through what he did.”
Despite the seriousness of his disease, Judd says Pedro had an amazing sense of humor.
“He joked a lot about living with AIDS,” Judd recalls. “Pedro brought light to the room, and he didn’t bring people down despite what his agenda was.
“His life was about every day living: falling in love and being with boyfriend. Pam and I miss that.”
Judd feels that Pedro would still be fighting the AIDS cause today.
“I think he’d disgusted with where we are,” Judd theorizes.
“We took a quantum leap backwards for eight years as far as sex education. The myth of abstinence-only education thrived, not teaching kids anything about condoms and the mechanics of sex and sexuality, which by the way, is why Pedro contracted HIV. No one ever explained to him how he was at risk or in what way.”
But Judd stresses Pedro’s message has made a lasting impact.
“People got involved in activism and turned there lives around because of it. There’s no way you can diminish what he accomplished by putting it out there in such a big way.”
Pedro airs Wednesday, April 1 at 8 p.m. on MTV.
Gwyneth Doubts Joaquin’s Career Change
March 16th, 2009
Bad sign for Joaquin Phoenix and the load of crazy he’s been trying to sell fans lately – even his Two Lovers co-star Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t believe he really wants to quit acting and become a rapper.
"I’m not a hundred percent sure that that’s really going to be the case," she told MTV UK during a promotional junket for the film. "I think that there might be some other explanation or something going on. I’m not quite sure what, but I can’t believe that he’s really going to quit forever to become a rapper. It seems odd."
Right? More than odd, recently, as Joaquin had a show in Miami where he got into a fight with a heckler. He also made a furry, slurry, odd appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman that has further convinced the public that it’s all just an act. An act Gwyneth herself might get into.
"I’d like to take this opportunity to announce that I’m quitting acting to become a rapper," joked Gwyneth. "So, I’m going to write ‘good-bye’ across my knuckles and everything. Do you have a pen?"
OK! Interview: Susie Castillo
January 23rd, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff
Susie Castillo deserves a little time to relax.
Since becoming Miss USA in 2003, she has been on a whirlwind: She got rave reviews as an MTV veejay from 2005-2007, and has been racking up acting credits on Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and Two and a Half Men, among others.
Last year, Susie, 29, added to her list of talents by writing Confidence Is Queen, a book inspired by her travels around the country as Miss USA.
Taking a break is unlikely for Susie, however.
Her latest gig, as co-host (with Michael Flatley) of NBC’s Superstars of Dance, is keeping her plenty busy. But she recently carved out a day from her schedule to chat with OK! about her career and her marriage to Web-design company owner, Matt Leslie, 29.
You met Matt in college. how do you keep your relationship happy and exciting?
The key, I think, is to grow and evolve together. I’m not a big believer in “absence makes the heart grow fonder.”
I think being apart makes you grow apart. So we do everything we can to be together.
You’re great parents to your two Chihuahuas, Oscar and Lupe. Do you have any plans to have kids?
Not right now. Outside of the health of our relationship, our careers are priority number one.
I’ve learned that nothing endures but change… and that includes changing
our minds. Matt swore we’d never have dogs, and now we have two!

Meet the Real World: Brooklyn cast
January 7th, 2009
I’ve got a confession to make. I wanted to live in the MTV Real World house. Really. I even applied for a season ages ago (stop laughing)…
So when I got the invitation to meet the cast of The Real World: Brooklyn, which kicks of its 21st round of strangers living together tonight, at their Real World abode, I jumped on it.
For the first time ever, there are eight cast members sharing that converted warehouse space on the shores of Red Hook, a cool area in Brooklyn, N.Y.
That includes a colorfully-dressed Mormon, who is often mistaken for being gay; an outspoken military vet, a beauty queen and a dolphin trainer. This season also introduces the first transgendered person to live in a the Real World house.
After checking out the bedrooms (Katelynn’s and Devyn’s would have totally been mine!), freshening up in the bathroom with the see-through shower doors and chowing down on a sandwich in the open floor-plan kitchen, I got down to business to finding out what makes this season’s cast, the show’s 21st!, so real.
(from pic bottom counter-clockwise)
Chet, 23, is a funky-dressed Mormon from Salt Lake City, Utah.
On being mistaken for being gay: Even up to this day, it happened back home. My dad even jokes about it. I don’t think it’s a bad thing, and I’m comfortable with my sexuality. I like to dress up, and if that means that I’m gay, I think there’s something wrong with society. You can’t pinpoint someone’s sexuality on what they’re wearing.
On being a virgin: The first time I want to have sex, I don’t want it to be in front of the camera – maybe the second or thirds. (laughs) I’ve had the opportunity, but it’s my own personal choice, so I just don’t get myself into those situations.
Scott, 23, is a personal trainer from Salem, N.H.
On getting your abs in killer shape: Get on your knees, grab the bar behind you on the cable and bring your elbows down to yours knees. It allows you to arch your lower back and contract your abs to twist and turn on your core.
On his relationship with Devyn: It’s pretty interesting. We start off as great friends. We have our bumps through the season. You get to see all of that.
Katelynn, 24, is a computer geek from West Palm Beach, Fla.
On reason for doing the show: I thought I was the antithesis of everything they were going to cast. I had a serious job in corporate America, and I was paying off a mortgage. I never honestly expected to be cast. I thought I could go back and live my life, or I could represent an entire community instead.
On what she wants viewers to get from it: My main purpose was to destigmatize the "trans" label. Throughout the nineties, the idea of a transgender was a Jerry Springer freak show. I really want normalize it, and to let people know that may be what I am, but it’s not who I am. I’m very driven and I’ve got problems and relationship issues, just like everyone else.
Devyn, 20, is a beauty pageant winner from Kansas City, Mo.
On the house’s crazy showers: Being African-American, I definitely believed I was more easy to see through them. I learned to make sure you lock the door because the boys loved to come in and open the door randomly. And Chet liked to go to the bathroom with the door open. You just get up very early and learn to take a quick one when no one is around.
On her Real World crush: Scott is obviously a very attractive person. Proximity is one of the number one factors in a relationship, so I narrowed down what I had to work with. I’m not going to give anything away, but I will tell you our relationship goes in a direction that no one would have foreseen.
Ryan, 23, is an Iraq military veteran from Gettysburg, Pa.
On meeting Katelynn: It was my first introduction with a transgender. She hadn’t said anything, so I wasn’t sure if it was a boy or a girl, or how I should refer to him or her. It was weird for me because I have never been exposed to the situation, I said to myself, “Okay, a lot of new things are going to be coming my way with this opportunity, and I want to learn more.”
On the troops in Iraq: Honestly, I’d like to see everyone out of there, and to bring all our people home.
Sarah, 22, is a sexual victim abuse advocate from San Francisco, Calif.
On her reason of being on the show: I have one of those stories to tell about overcoming obstacles. I wanted to show people that you can go through a traumatic event and you can come out of it a survivor, rather than a victim.
On finding true love: When you find that person that you love, you wait years for them. And I love my boyfriend more than anything in the world; he’s the man I’m going to marry. You can walk the hottest guy — or girl — right by me, and I wouldn’t even see them.
J.D., 22, is a dolphin trainer from Miami, Fla.
On why he wanted the Real World experience: I felt like I had a story I didn’t have the easiest life growing up. I have five brother and sisters, we all had different fathers and I left when I was 13. I put myself through college, and I wanted this experience because I wanted the family I never had before.
On his cool job: I didn’t just work with dolphins, I worked with Beluga whales. I took a year off a college and worked at Sea World. I’ve always wanted to work with animals since I was a little kid. You don’t make a lot of money, but it’s a very rewarding job.
Baya, 21, is a hip-hop dancer from Salt Lake City, Utah.
On her dance experience: I started dancing at a late age, so I have very little technical training. Coming here, I aspired to be a professional dancer. Am I there yet? No. And I’m training to get myself there? Absolutely.
On her professional dance dream opportunity: I love Ciara. If I could dance for anybody, it would be Ciara. If I could go on tour with her, it would be awesome. If she’s looking for a white best friend, give me a call!
The Real World: Brooklyn premieres Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 10 p.m. on MTV.
