NKOTB Cancel Aussie Tour

June 19th, 2009

Bad news for fans of New Kids on the Block in Australia: the boys have canceled their tour Down Under, perhaps due to rumored poor ticket sales in the depressed global economy.

Donnie Wahlberg posted on the band’s website blog that the group had "exhausted efforts" to get the tour going, but it was proving to be "too complex."

"We are, in fact, in the middle of a worldwide recession and we just cannot make it work," he says, although he didn’t attribute the cancellation to poor ticket sales.

After breaking up in 1994, NKOTB reunited last year with the album, The Block, and toured the U.S. and Canada, promoting it to great success.

Donnie adds that the guys are "saddened" not to be going to Australia in August, since the country has "always, always, been one of our favorite places to travel to."

"We can only assure you that when the recession’s stranglehold on the world’s economies eases up a bit – we will find a way to make this work," he says.

The Real NKOTB Stand Up For Themselves In Court

June 12th, 2009

Whoa. Hold on. You can mess with a lot of things, but keep your hands off New Kids On The Block!

The nineties chart toppers are having to sue some alleged fakers who tried to pass themselves off as the real NKOTB a few years ago.

According to TMZ, Jordan, Joey et al have filed a federal lawsuit against one SM Productions, which they claim attempted to form "a new group also entitled ‘New Kids On The Block’" with the intention of trying to convince people they were the real band.

And as if that weren’t audacious enough, the suit also claims that the company tried to register the band’s name and the album art for "Hangin’ Tough" with the US Patents and Trademark Office.

The outrage! As if they could ever, ever be as good as the mighty ‘Block!

Natasha Bedingfield Plans Wedding – Thanks To David Beckham

December 19th, 2008

It took David Beckham to convince Natasha Bedingfield that her life is best spent with her businessman beau Matt Robinson.

“I was at the Teen Choice Awards and David Beckham and Posh were sitting right in front of me,” the Pocketful of Sunshine singer, 27, tells me at Cosmopolitan’s Star Launch Finale Concert. “I looked at them, and I looked at Matt, and I just thought he was the hottest man in the world even though Beckham was standing right in front of me. I thought ‘if you’ve got the hottest guy in the world that you’re dating, you should probably marry that guy.’”

The couple got engaged in September after two years of dating.

Now is the fun part – planning the wedding.

“I got engaged and went straight off on the New Kids On The Block tour. I’m starting to do all the planning and look through the magazines.”

Has she picked a dress?

“Not yet,” the Brit wonder tells me. “I’ve got some ideas, but I haven’t picked it yet.”

This is certainly an exciting time.

“I think it’s one of those once-in-a-lifetime things that happen, and it’s what every girl dreams of. I’m enjoying the fact that I can talk to my sister and it’s something fun that we can do together.”

One thing Natasha isn’t hoping to rush is starting a family.

“I’m not talking about that,” she laughs.

Donnie Wahlberg: We Deserved Criticism

September 10th, 2008

Hailed by some as the original boy band, the New Kids on the Block were often criticized for their songs and performances, seen by some as light and fluffy fare.

But in an exclusive interview with AOL Music Sessions, Donnie Wahlberg says that although the band often worked harder and performed better than they were given credit for, some of the negative reviews of their music was warranted.

"There were times that some of our songs were crap, and deservedly so they were criticized," he says.

As for being the boy band that blazed the trail for groups like Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync, Donnie thinks that the criticism directed against NKOTB actually made breaking through on the music scene more difficult for those who followed them.

"One of the things I did notice [about Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync] is that it was probably hard for them,"  he says. "There was a backlash at radio and MTV and different places towards us, so for them to break through, they had to really work hard and be committed."

Joey McIntyre also weighed in on who he thought the real original boybanders were.

"People say boy bands, we were the first boy band, but we always immediately point back to New Edition," he says. "They came from our hometown and were our idols and that connection is very special for us."

Donnie Wahlberg and Wife Call it Quits

August 18th, 2008

Former New Kid on the Block member Donnie Wahlberg and his wife are ending their nearly 9 year marriage.

Wahlberg and Kim Fey Wahlberg each filed for divorce separately last Wednesday in separate L.A. counties. In her petition Kim cited "irreconcilable differences."

Donnie, 39, is the older brother of actor Mark Wahlberg. The divorce filing comes as he prepares to tour with a newly reunited New Kids on the Block.

He has also appeared in several movies, including The Sixth Sense and most recently, Righteous Kill, set to hit theaters in September.

The couple have two sons, ages 15 and 7.

Donnie Wahlberg Sensing Celtics Victory

June 13th, 2008

While Justin Timberlake, David Beckham, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith and Tobey Maguire were cheering for the Los Angeles Lakers Thursday night, there was one celebrity who was rooting against the home team — Donnie Wahlberg.

The New Kids on the Block star was on hand to cheer on his beloved Boston Celtics in their stellar come-from-behind victory.

"I travel with the team," he tells OK!. "I’m not here because they’re doing good. I’m here because I’ve been here for years."

Securing a 3-1 series lead over the Lakers, the Celtics now need one more victory to seal their status as NBA champs, and Donnie can certainly taste sweet victory.

"It’s shaping up perfectly for us to have a party in Boston in about a week," he says.

Like a typical Boston sports fan, Donnie wasn’t afraid to talk smack about his team’s rivals, not to mention, its supporters as well, calling them "false;" fans in Boston are "real."

"Why would it be tough [being a Celtics fan here]? I’d be more scared in a convent with a hundred nuns than I would be in this building full of Lakers fans," the 38-year-old says.

Should his boys win the whole shebang, it’s shaping up to be a pretty good summer for the singer-turned-actor. NKOTB is currently in rehearsals for their reunion tour.

"We’re having a good time and working hard. We’re very lucky. Our fans have been ridiculous the way they’ve supported us," Donnie says. "I think we sold this place out twice, which is unbelievable."

And how are rehearsals going?

"I’m not quite as nimble as I used to be but I’m okay," he says. "The guys are doing good. We’re fine."
