Pete & Ashlee to Move to NYC in Spring

November 25th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Proud parents Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz made baby name news on  Nov. 20 when they dubbed their newborn son Bronx Mowgli, after the famous NYC borough. However the couple is set to move to another borough, Brooklyn, this spring from L.A.

A family friend tells OK!, “They want to settle into their new life with a baby before they move to Brooklyn.”

Ashlee gave birth to 7-pound, 11-ounce Bronx in the same maternity suite at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A. where Julia Roberts gave birth to her son Henry in June 2007. Sister Jessica and father Joe visited the new mom in the hospital.

So, what’s with that middle name? According to a pal of Ashlee, they chose the middle name Mowgli in hopes that he would acquire the qualities the fictional Jungle Book character Mowgli has.

“Pete and Ashlee want Bronx to be a survivor, just like Mowgli," the pal tells OK!.

Britney Surprises NYC Students

October 1st, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Britney Spears started Day 3 of her trip to NYC by driving 30 minutes to visit a public school in the Bronx. But, of course, with Brit, nothing is ever that simple – because John Philip Sousa Jr.-High wasn’t even open for classes.

So with the gates locked for the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah, the school had to round up a handful of kids just for Britney to meet. Welcomed inside, Brit disappeared inside the school in the Baychester neighborhood before coming back out after 20 minutes to sign autographs for the kids – who were nearly outnumbered by the 20+ local cops there to guard her.

Looking relaxed and happy to be spending time with the children, Brit posed for pics and joked with the thrilled students for around ten minutes, then ducked back inside the school.

“I can’t believe she’s here,” said one star-struck pupil, “I couldn’t say anything – it’s Britney. I was shell-shocked.”

And just when it looked like something pretty normal had finally happened during her chaotic day in the city, Brit’s convoy of SUVs came screeching through the quiet streets with a full police escort – looking more like the President’s motorcade in an air raid than a pop star in a residential neighborhood.

Britney Goes Live on the Radio

September 29th, 2008

Britney Spears has descended upon NYC and is already hitting all the big stops, including a visit to radio station Z100 to chat live on the air about her new album, Circus.

"I’ve been working on this album for six months or so," she tells Z100’s JJ.

The Britster seemed calm, cool and collected wearing a sweater and sunglesses as she added her thoughts on her new song, "Womanizer," which dropped last week.

"It’s a really cool song," she says of the single. "I like the fact that it’s so empowering for girls, because it’s basically saying, ‘We know what you’re up to.’ It’s about guys cheating on other girls and stuff and it’s kind of like a girl anthem."

Britney says she was suprised that for all the times she’s been nominated, that she finally won a VMA for her "Piece of Me" video.

"It’s a cool video, but I think by far, that I’ve done videos that are way better, so I was really shocked that I got the award." But this year’s success snagging three Moonmen could be just the start for Britney, who says she’s excited for the future of her videos.

"It was just inspiring though, because now going forward with the videos I’m doing now,  I can really go there and do something crazy and see what happens."

The comeback queen arrived in the Big Apple yesterday, and she’s set to take in the sights and eat her favorite NYC treat – pizza.

"I miss it here so much, I love it!" she gushes about the city. "It’s kind of bittersweet coming here because I used to live here for two years, so when I come back it’s like, man, I wish I had my apartment here still."

Brit also revealed some exciting news for next year – she’ll be going on tour next year, "probably around the world."

Matt’s Good in NYC

March 25th, 2008

Last night at Highline Ballroom, Matthew Good finally came to NYC after an eight year hiatus from playing in our fine city. But, it was worth the wait. Matt played an intimate acoustic set that felt like we were sitting in his living room listening to him play rather than at a venue. It was fantastic.

Matt seamlessly mixed fan favorites ("Avalanche", "Strange Days", "Load Me Up") with songs from his latest solo effort, Hospital Music. His voice sounded clear and impecable. And, even with a few snafus (some guitar problems), it was a great show. The crowd seemed in awe of Matt’s performance opting to watch the show rather than sing along orgo crazy. It was the best way to take in Matt’s acoustic interpretations of some of his electric songs.

It was great fun. But, the show left me asking: When will Matt come back to Manhattan!

Set list:
I’m A Window
Suburbia
99% Of Us Is Failure
Born Losers
Tripoli
Strange Days
Load Me Up
A Silent Army In The Trees
Black Helicopter
She’s In It For The Money
Avalanche
Apparitions
True Love Will Find You In The End
Encore
Champions Of Nothing
Metal Airplanes’

OK! Exclusive: Katie Holmes NOT Running Boston Marathon

January 9th, 2008 / Author: cwillett

Last fall, OK! was the first to report that Katie Holmes was going to run the New York City Marathon, so it came as no surprise to our readers when she crossed the line after 5 hours and 30 minutes on Nov. 4. And now come rumors that Mrs. Tom Cruise is prepping for yet another grueling run — the famed Boston Marathon.

However, it now appears that those stories are nothing but wishful dreaming on the part of the editors of faltering tabloid Us Weekly.

"Katie Holmes is not running in the Boston Marathon," her spokeswoman Ina Treciokas tells OK! exclusively, breaking the heart of long-distance-running Dawson’s Creek fans everywhere.

However, we’re sure this is good news to the paparazzi, who were probably not looking forward to another 26 mile jog with all their camera equipment!

OK! Exclusive: Cruise Missile to Hit D.C.

November 6th, 2007

From L.A. to London to Rome to Paris to Berlin to New York City Tom Cruise’s around-the-globe tour to promote his new film, Lions for Lambs, has taken him just about everywhere, and though it had been kept top secret, OK! can exclusively reveal that Tom and company are going to slip one more stroll down the red carpet into his schedule — and this time, it’s the nation’s capitol.

This Wednesday night, Tom and wife Katie Holmes, who managed to squeeze in a run in Sunday’s New York City marathon before a screening of the film in Manhattan, will be at the Uptown Theater in Washington, D.C., along with a guest list that includes many of Washington’s movers and shakers.

The event will also give TomKat a chance to catch up with their good friends, Dan and Tanya Snyder. In addition to being an investment partner with Tom in United Artists, Dan owns the Washington Redskins football team. Perhaps Tom, who has watched Redskins games from the sidelines before, will stick around to see the team take on the Philadelphia Eagles next Sunday?

Katie Holmes Completes NYC Marathon!

November 4th, 2007

As OK! was the first to report several weeks ago, Katie Holmes quietly slipped into her running shoes Sunday morning and, along with almost 40,000 other dedicated runners, ran more than 26 miles through the streets of Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan to complete the grueling New York City Marathon.

The morning began at sunrise for the Cruise/Holmes family, as they departed their room at the Carlyle hotel at 6:30 a.m. However, the race itself was all about a personal effort by Katie, as the Thank You for Smoking actress was able to run much of the distance while going unnoticed by cameras or other competitors.

Katie, 28, remained just another runner until she entered the stretch, along Manhattan’s 1st Avenue, where a clandestinely dressed Tom awaited her to give her a congratulatory kiss. Sources tell OK! that her superstar hubby had also planned on throwing a huge bash in a tent in Central Park near Tavern on the Green, with all her family flown in from Ohio. Katie finished the race in 5 hours, 29 minutes and 58 seconds.

In the months leading up to the race, OK! reported that Katie had been quietly training during early morning runs in both Berlin — where Tom was filming his upcoming movie Valkyrie — and around their neighborhood in Beverly Hills.

“Kate is determined to finish the race,” a source close to the couple revealed to OK! at the time. “She’s as fit and toned as ever.”

Tom, Katie and little baby Suri all arrived in the Big Apple early Friday morning, after taking a red-eye flight on a private jet from Los Angeles, where the couple had strode the red carpet for the premiere of Tom’s new film Lions for Lambs… and where some not-so-keen observers convinced themselves that Katie was hiding a baby bump under her dress.
