TV Weekly Recap: The Diet Detective and Tim Gunn!
April 24th, 2009I’m not the type of girl to let just anyone snoop around my kitchen.
But when I heard that behavioral specialist Charles Stuart Platkin, star of the new reality series I Want to Save Your Life, was in town, I decided to extend an invitation.
On the show, Charles helps overweight people get control over the poor eating habits and set them on the path of a healthier and happier life.
“It’s a show with a heart,” he says.
While his guests apply to be on the weight loss show, their first meeting is a total surprise.
“I spy on them first,” says Charles, who enlists their family and friends to follow them at work and play.
“I try to review their behaviors.”
Once Charles has grasped their food and lifestyle habits, he makes his move.
“It’s kind of like an intervention, and typically, it’s a bad food moment,” he says.
“It’s not too humiliate them, but many people who are overweight tend to say, ‘I don’t eat a lot,’ but it’s right there, it’s undeniable.”
Charles stays with them a week to help incorporate exercise and healthy eating into their lives. He returns in four months to review their progress.
“There’s a likelihood they’ll keep it off because they are doing it where they are in life, in their own environment, with their family members’ encouragement,” he explains.
“Taking somebody and putting them in a camp, that’s not the real world.”
Which brings us back to what’s in my kitchen, or more aptly put, what isn’t.
“You need more fruits and vegetables,” Charles advises, adding that this non-cook should stock up on organic frozen meals and try making food in batches on the weekend.
But don’t take my word for it. Check it out for yourself…
I Want to Save Your Life premieres Saturday, April 25 at 10 p.m. on WEtv.
In other news: I attended the Lifetime upfront this week, where they announced that Project Runway will finally debut on the network Aug. 20.
At my table was none other than new Marie Claire fashion director Nina Garcia, working a fierce jodhpur pantsuit, and Tim Gunn, who looked polished as always.
Being around these two, anyone could have a fashion meltdown, but my nerves were soothed when Tim exclaimed he loved my BCBG Generation high-waisted dress.
And Tim would like me to share some advice with the rest of my pint-sized fashionistas:
“Learn to get things altered to fit,” he declares.
So true!
Till next time, fellow fanatics!
Project Runway: Summer Release
April 21st, 2009
After a long scuffle between networks, Project Runway is finally ready to debut on its new home channel, Lifetime this summer.
Host Heidi Klum, mentor Tim Gunn and judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia are all set to return to the airwaves on Aug. 20, as the show moves from Bravo to Lifetime.
“I am a huge fan of Project Runway and could not be happier that Season Six will be premiering on Lifetime, the #1 network for women,” says Andrea Wong, President and CEO, Lifetime Networks. “The talent in this all-new season is nothing short of amazing, and I can’t wait for all of the fans to see the incredible work of these brilliant designers.”
In addition to getting Project Runway back, a new seires, Models of the Runway, will air right afterwards, featuring a behind-the-scenes look at the competition from the models’ perspectives.
Project Runway: Season six secrets revealed!
February 25th, 2009
Spoiler alert! Project Runway judge Nina Garcia’s move from Elle magazine to fashion rival Marie Claire made a strong case that the fashion competition series wouldn’t be just changing networks, but periodicals as well.
While the switch has never been confirmed by the show, the appearance of Marie Claire editor-in-chief Joanna Coles at the season six Project Runway New York Fashion Week show last Friday pretty much sealed that it’s a done deal.
But that’s just the tip of the yet-to-run season’s many secrets, OK! reporter Laura Lane learned after the TV Fanatic snagged her a seat at the runway presentation in Bryant Park.
Contrary to rumors that eight of the designers from the upcoming season would be showing their collections, only three designers’ threads made their way down the runway. And according to Runway models, the three finalists are women, again!
The series will start off (when it finally makes it on air!) with a special celebrity guest, none other than Lindsay Lohan!
According to her mom, Dina, who spoke with Laura after the show, Lindsay has “an amazing style. She’s been into fashion since she was young. I couldn’t get her out of malls when she was five. She just loves shopping and fashion.”
Like those Christian Louboutin boots, okay?
Project Runway’s debut on Lifetime is still on indefinite hold, but you can see more of Nina and the whole Marie Claire team on their new series Running in Heels, which premieres March 1 at 8 p.m. on Style Network.
Project Runway Secrets Revealed
February 20th, 2009
Although the final designers’ collections from Project Runway were shown this morning during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in NYC, the show still doesn’t have an air date after wrangling between the Bravo and Lifetime Networks.
In the meantime, certain secrets about the show came to light this morning, when a few models who were in the show revealed to OK! that there will be three finalists, all of them women, and two of them blonde.
Doesn’t make for much information until the season starts, but the guy designers apparently have no hope of a win this year.
That magic number of three finalists was a relief to Season 4 winner Christian Siriano, who says Heid Klum told him there would be a whopping 10 collections shown from the contestants!
"I thought it was going to be like ten shows coming down the runway," he says. "[Heidi) told me that too. She lied. She’s got to twist the stories.”
Christian liked the third collection best, adding, "I thought there were pieces I could do without but I thought they were really strong.”
Judge Nina Garcia, however, wouldn’t pick a favorite, but did reveal that the winner would be chosen today.
"We’re judging this afternoon," she tells OK!, adding that they didn’t have any information as to when the show would premiere.
Heidi Klum Blows Off Project Runway Party
October 21st, 2008
It sounds like a case of Project Run Away.
Project Runway host Heidi Klum, 35, said “auf wiedersehen” to the show’s finale party — choosing to go to a friend’s fashion show instead.
And it wasn’t just the supermodel who ducked out of the bash either.
“Tim Gunn, Nina Garcia and Heidi were all in L.A. but none of them showed up,” a
Bravo insider told OK! at the Oct. 15 party, which was sponsored by Martell Cognac.
“The show has a new production company so the party was a last hurrah for most of
the crew," said our source.
"Everyone was disappointed that Heidi didn’t show. It was a slap in the face.”
Where was Heidi? At Ed Hardy designer Christian Audigier’s runway show, “It ended around 9 p.m., but she was in no hurry to leave,” source told OK!.
