NKOTB Cancel Aussie Tour

June 19th, 2009

Bad news for fans of New Kids on the Block in Australia: the boys have canceled their tour Down Under, perhaps due to rumored poor ticket sales in the depressed global economy.

Donnie Wahlberg posted on the band’s website blog that the group had "exhausted efforts" to get the tour going, but it was proving to be "too complex."

"We are, in fact, in the middle of a worldwide recession and we just cannot make it work," he says, although he didn’t attribute the cancellation to poor ticket sales.

After breaking up in 1994, NKOTB reunited last year with the album, The Block, and toured the U.S. and Canada, promoting it to great success.

Donnie adds that the guys are "saddened" not to be going to Australia in August, since the country has "always, always, been one of our favorite places to travel to."

"We can only assure you that when the recession’s stranglehold on the world’s economies eases up a bit – we will find a way to make this work," he says.

NKOTB Going Cruising

May 15th, 2009

Stuck on a boat for three full days with the Donnie Wahlberg, Joey McIntyre, Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight and Danny Wood as they perform onboard and mingle with other cruisers? Bestill those beating hearts, New Kids On the Block fans, that ship has already sailed.

Carnival Cruise lines has booked the comeback boys to kick off their summer perfomance schedule onboard one of their boats to the Bahamas, on the Carnival Imagination. The boat leaves today.

Cherie Weinstein, a spokeswoman for the cruise line, says around 2,100 fans – mostly women in their 20s and 30s – snatched up the tickets for the cruise. She adds that the trip sold out more quickly than normal cruises do.

The New Kids On The Block "Full Service" summer tour begins June 4 in Atlanta.

NKOTB Announces Summer Tour

March 30th, 2009

Is it just us, or does it feel like the early ’90s again? New Kids on the Block have announced that they’re hitting the road again this summer, after their successful reunion tour last year made their ecstatic, faithful fans feel like they were kicking it in their bedrooms from 7th grade.

The "Full Service" tour will kick off on May 28 in Atlanta, with tickets going on sale for certain shows on April 3 on LiveNation.

“We have put everything we have into the making of this Summer Tour. We have strategized and we are on a mission to THANK OUR FANS IN A BIG WAY!” says Donnie Wahlberg. “This tour is going to be a party like no other! Wet, hot, wild, fun! We owe it to all of our fans.”

"Step by Step," these guys are continuing their comeback.

Mark Wahlberg Won’t Take Kids to NKOTB Reunion

June 12th, 2008

Brothers Mark Wahlberg and Donnie Wahlberg are all over the news these days, with rapper-turned-actor Mark about to be a new father and Donnie’s old-school boy band New Kids On the Block enjoying a long-anticipated reunion.

However, when we caught up with the man formerly known as Marky Mark, he told OK! that he likely won’t be bringing kids Ella, 4, and 2-year-old Michael to see their uncle Donnie perform live anytime soon.

"They’re probably still a little bit young for all that gyrating and stuff," Mark explained to OK! at the NYC premiere of his new film, The Happening, on Wednesday. "They went to The Wiggles concert, they went to the Doodlebops. And they just went to Elmo this weekend. That’s about their speed."

Despite the fact that the little Wahlbergs will be absent at the NKOTB concerts, Mark is still very supportive of his big bro’s music career. "I know my brother’s very talented. He has something up his sleeve."

Another brotherly connection — Mark’s new film, The Happening, is directed by M. Night Shyamalan, who had cast Donnie almost a decade ago in his hit movie, The Sixth Sense.

Backstage At Z100’s Zootopia

May 24th, 2008

New Kids On The Block remain tight-lipped when it comes to reporters at Z100’s Zootopia. It’s photos only in the press room, so it’s time for a shout-out. How does it feel to be back together after 15 years?

“It feels incredible,” Joey McIntyre says.

Donnie Wahlberg adds, “We’ve been around for a long time.”

The Beantown boys bring out a cake onstage to celebrate Jordan Knight’s birthday. Delish! They play a medley of hits, their new single Summertime and retro Tonight.

Wow! I’m going to be on the next season of MTV’s Making The Band – fingers crossed. Danity Kane’s camp brings along a release form for me to sign because they taped me talking to the girls. I love airtime. Aubrey O’Day and company start singing their favorite song — DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince’s ditty Summertime. A-ha!

Up next is Simple Plan’s Pierre Bouvier, who tries to get Chuck Comeau to open up about the origin of their new tune Your Love Is A Lie.

“It’s a song about betrayal and about being cheated on,” he says. “It happened to me, so it sucks. I wrote a song about it. It’s a song for everybody who’s ever been cheated on.

“Come on, more specific, what happened to you man?” Pierre prods.

“That’s it,” Chuck says, embarrassed.

It’s always drama for Simple Plan in the press room. One time, Chuck asked Kelly Clarkson on a date in backstage at a Z100 event!

Jesse McCartney gets the crowd pumped with his hit Leavin.’ One thing he left behind while recording his album Departure? Junk food. “If I get another cavity, I’ll be upset,” he says. “Everything’s sugar-free.”

Sara Bareilles slides by. “I’m truly excited about performing tonight. Hopefully I’ll make people smile.” Bonus: She went to UCLA with Maroon 5 — and they’re touring together!

Here’s OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder sailing around in a wheelchair. What happened? “I slipped last night in Philadelphia offstage. There was water everywhere, and it happened. I was thinking ‘whatever you do, don’t fall, don’t do this.’ As soon as I took a step, both of my crutches fell out from under me. There’s a lot of pain, and it’s stressful.”

He wrote the Leona Lewis megahit Bleeding Love.“Everybody heard it and thought ‘this is the one,’” he says. “I’m happy for her. Good luck to her.”

Making The Band choreographer Lori Ann Gibson dishes some dirt about making dance moves for Madonna.

“I thought it would be life-altering,” she tells me. “I’d worked with urban acts like Mary J. Blige, Puffy, Missy – and I thought she was a step up. Madonna. I realized then that no matter how much money or how many records that if it’s really not there in your soul and if you’re really not coming from an honest place, it’s not worth it. She has an amazing work ethic but you’ll find the real artistry with Beyonce, Usher or Alicia Keys.”

Snap!

What about the Jonas Brothers?

“I started working with them when they were very young. To see what they have become is truly a great thing. They’re honest, they’re great songwriters and musicians. To see how their natural talent has developed is a blessing. They’re going to be here forever.”

We’ll see!

The night ends with a performance from Miley Cyrus, who gives her all to tunes including Start All Over, See You Again, Fly On The Wall, Breakout and G.N.O. (Girls Night Out). Confetti pours down over the tween crowd.

Oh, here’s Jesse’s rep. That means Jesse’s not far behind. ‘Night all.
