With Hugh Jackman not returning to host this year’s Oscar broadcast, and Neil Patrick Harris apparently awarded-out after hosting both the Tonys and the Emmys, the Academy announced today that they’re going with the pair of Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin to co-host the 82nd Academy Awards. Steve Martin “Happy to Co-Host the Oscars with My Enemy, Alec Baldwin”

June 24th, 2009
Best Picture nominees will no longer have a one in five shot in winning the Oscar, as the Academy Awards board announced today they’re doubling the number of nominees in that category, from five to 10, the Associated Press reports.
Academy President Sid Ganis said at a news conference that the board’s governors were responsible for deciding to expand, starting with next year’s Oscars on March 7.
"We nominated five, but there were many other great films last year," said Ganis of one reason for the expansion.
In the 1930s and ’40s it was common for 10 nominees to battle for the top prize: 1939’s 10 best-picture nominees were Gone With the Wind, which won, The Wizard of Oz, Stagecoach, Wuthering Heights, Love Affair, Goodbye, Mr. Chips, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Of Mice and Men, Dark Victory and Ninotchka, all of which are considered classics now.
Widening the field could also allow for more documentaries, foreign-language films, animated movies and even comedies to be nominated.
"Everybody says the academy will never nominate a comedy," Ganis said. "Well, maybe we will."

Salma Hayek Marries Billionaire… Again
April 27th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff
It wasn’t just Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag doing the second-wedding thing this weekend. Salma Hayek and her billionaire beau François-Henri Penault, who eloped in a quickie Valentine’s Day ceremony in Paris earlier this year, finally had the A-list wedding one should expect from a A-list couple.
Technically, it wasn’t a wedding for Salma and François, as their original ceremony was legit (unlike Spencer and Heidi’s Mexican fiasco). Instead, this was a renewal of the vowels the pair made to each other, this time in front of their families and a host of other celebrities, including Bono, Penelope Cruz, Charlize Theron, Ashley Judd and others.
So… Congratulations! Again…
Oscars Shift Next Year for Olympics
March 25th, 2009
Believe it or not, it’s almost time for the Winter Olympics again – Vancouver will be hosting in 2010 – and no one wants to compete with the biggest sporting event of the year, including the Oscars.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences doesn’t want to conflict with the closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics, so the 82nd Annual Academy Awards is shifting to March 7, later than usual (this year’s awards were on Feb. 22), Academy president Sid Ganis announced today.
The location will remain unchanged, as the ceremony is set for the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center.

Is John Competing with Brad Pitt?
February 26th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff
The best revenge is looking good — or in the case of John Mayer, talking about it.
In preparing to go toe-to-toe on the Oscar red carpet with girlfriend Jennifer Aniston’s ex, Brad Pitt, the musician, 31, Twittered endlessly about everything he did to get ready for the big show.
"Just saw my Oscar tux," he wrote on Feb. 21. "God, is it gorgeous. Wrangler designed it just for me." (Actually, the singer was dressed head to toe in Salvatore Ferragamo).
John also detailed his workout regime (15 minutes of cardio focusing on his lats, abs and quads) and menu choices (egg-white frittatas, berries and non-fat Greek yogurt). The result? "I’m not going to lie to you, I look good," John wrote on Feb. 22. "But don’t get used to it, because I can’t stand perfection."
Cover Story: Jen & Brad’s Oscar Reunion
February 25th, 2009
After four years of daring comments, "uncool" quips and suggestive remarks, the long anticipated face-to-face meeting between A-list adversaries Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston at the 81st Academy Awards was quietly anti-climactic — with good reason.
"Jen couldn’t have cared less whether Angie was at the Oscars," an insider tells OK! of their Feb. 22 run-in. "Her mind was fixated on her ex-husband Brad Pitt."A radiant Jen seemed not to notice her so-called rival Angie, focusing instead on the man who has become a father of six since leaving her in 2005.
And although Jen, 40, appears to have found love again with John Mayer, 31, she is still troubled by the past. "Once her eyes met Brad’s that night, it rekindled all the old feelings," the source tells OK!. "She has never stopped loving Brad."
And the feelings may be mutual! "Just because Brad was swept off his feet by Angelina, it didn’t mean he stopped loving Jen," says the source. "He has this obsession with Angelina and he felt he had to explore a relationship with her."
However, the 45-year-old star of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button did not intend for his relationship with Angie to become so serious, so soon after his split from Jen.
"Things just seemed to snowball and the next thing Brad knew, he had six kids," the insider tells OK! of the shocking romance that blossomed on the set of the Jolie-Pitt action flick Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2005. "There was no turning back."

Billy Crystal to Host 2010 Oscars?
February 24th, 2009
Hugh Jackman successfully hosted one of the highest rated televised Oscar shows in recent history on Sunday, catapulting him into the rotation of available hosts for future shows.
But according to FoxNews.com, an "oldie but goodie" may be looking to jump back into the lineup.
Billy Crystal is reportedly interested in returning as host of the Oscars, following last Sunday’s spectacular format and, consequently, sky-high ratings.
Crystal last hosted the Academy Awards in 2004 but it’s safe to say, when it comes to Oscar’s favorite hosts from recent years, Crystal takes the cake.
He first hosted in 1990, continuing on a four-year consecutive streak through 1993. After taking a 3-year break, Crystal returned for another round of back-to-back hosting in 1997 and 1998, and again in 2000.
The funnyman reportedly has an open schedule these days, having finished touring with his one-man show.
Guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
