Caroline Rhea ‘So Into Momminess’

July 6th, 2009 / Author: Valerie Nome

Caroline Rhea reaches into her purple purse to whip out a few 8×10 photos of her eight-month-old daughter Ava during a swank party held at NYC’s Le Parker Meridien.  In one, she’s wearing brown teddy bear ears.

She introduces me to boyfriend and father Costaki Economopoulos.

Clearly, motherhood agrees with the Sabrina, The Teenage Witch star.

“I love it,” the actress, 45, tells me. “It’s my favorite thing I’ve ever done. She’s the sweetest, loveliest … yeah. I guess I feel like somebody flipped a switch, and the whole world is in Technicolor now. It’s very exciting. I’m very sappy about it, but I adore her. I’m so into momminess.”

What precious moment can they share?

“She’s bound to laugh at everything we say,” Caroline says. “She’s an excellent audience.”

Costaki
adds, “I feel so bad, because people go ‘oh my God, she smiled at me.’ I go, ‘she smiles at everybody.’”

This summer, Caroline and Costaki look forward to taking Ava to the beach. “She’s going to discover sand.”

What makes him such a great dad?

“He loves it, and he loves her so much,” Caroline says. “I have the tiniest bit of resentment. His material is doing better with her than mine is. Yeah. He goes for the laugh, and then he repeats it over-and-over and over again. Like the tickling. I can’t stop squeezing her thighs. I can’t.”

They’re also perfect for each other.

“We’re both comics,” Costaki says. “Tell her our rule. We have a rule: it’s OK to be mean to each other as long as it’s funny.”

Caroline adds, “It’s a very tricky rule. As long as it’s funny. It’s a very fine line.”

As for wedding plans?  Costaki yuks, “Yes! I need health insurance.” Caroline slyly echoes, “He needs health insurance.”

MJ’s Mom Files Guardianship Papers for Kids

June 29th, 2009

UPDATE: Katherine Jackson, Michael Jackson’s mother, has been granted temporary guardianship of Michael’s three kids, TMZ is reporting. A hearing is set for next Monday.

While it had been assumed that Katherine Jackson, mother of the late Michael Jackson, would have custody of his three kids Michael Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince Michael II (aka Blanket), it’s now official: TMZ reports that the childrens’ grandmother has filed a guardianship petition.

Katherine has asked that the court appoint her the guardian for all three of the kids. The two eldest are from Michael’s marriage to Debbie Rowe, and Prince Michael II is from a surrogate.

The petition states the two oldest kids have "no relationship with their biological mother." The children are already in the care of Katherine, says the file: "Minor children are currently residing with paternal grandmother. They have a long-established relationship with paternal grandmother and are comfortable in her care."

Debbie Rowe is listed as mother of Michael Jr. and Paris, and for Prince Michael II, the box for "mother" has "none" written in. The document states that it is "not known at this time" whether Rowe thinks Katherine should be the legal guardian.

A hearing is now set for August 3 to hear the petition.

Janet Jackson Honors Michael at BET Awards

June 29th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

In one of the most emotional moments since the shocking death of music superstar Michael Jackson last Thursday, the singer’s sister Janet Jackson took the stage at Sunday night’s BET Awards in L.A. to honor her beloved brother.

“My entire family wanted to be here tonight but it was just too painful, so they elected me to speak to all of you,” a choked-up Janet said to the teary-eyed crowd. “I’m going to keep it very short. To you, Michael is an icon. To us, Michael is family. And he will forever live in all of our hearts. On behalf of my family, and myself, thank you for all of your love. Thank you for all of your support. We miss him so much. Thank you so much.”

Following Janet’s heartwrenching speech, Jamie Foxx joined Ne-Yo in singing the Jackson 5 classic, “I’ll Be There.”

Cameron Diaz ‘Lucky’ For Hot Bod

June 25th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

There’s something about Cameron Diaz during the My Sister’s Keeper premiere held Wednesday at NYC’s AMC Loews Lincoln Square.

Clad in a white J. Mendel frock, the buoyant bombshell radiates joy in every way from her wide smile to her easy laugh to her sparkling blue eyes. She towers over everyone, and her deep tan and fire-engine red lipstick simply heighten the glamour.

How does the actress, 36, stay trim?

“I guess I’m just lucky,” she laughs, attributing her bod to that old standby — genetics.

In this medical drama opening Friday, Cameron plays mom to a daughter suffering from leukemia. To save her child, Cameron gives birth to another daughter, played by Abigail Breslin, who is forced to endure medical tests to save her sister until one day, Abigail’s character says “no” and seeks medical emancipation.

“Mothers are goddesses,” Cameron says. Her own family was on hand when she received her star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame this week. “Family’s everything. They’re the most important things to me, absolutely.”

One thing Cameron likes to do for her family is cook, and co-star Heather Wahlquist admits she makes a mean guacamole. “She cooks very healthy, with a lot of garlic and olive oil,” she tells me. “She gave me one good tip: if you get garlic on your fingers – it smells because you cook with garlic – then you can take stainless steel, and rub your fingers on it, and it goes away.”

Cameron’s co-stars can’t stop gushing about her.

Thomas Dekker tells me, “She’s like an old movie star. She has that bubbly, charismatic movie star presence, and then she can turn around and do something. It’s surprising how good she is in this film. I think all the people who were like ‘she’s the wrong choice,’ once they see it, they’ll be amazed.”

Director Nick Cassavetes, who also helmed The Notebook, was responsible for making sure Cameron didn’t cry throughout the film, which was nearly impossible, the actress admits.

Nick tells me, “I was surprised by what a great woman she was. I didn’t think she went that deep. It’s not because she’s Cameron Diaz, but when you know someone, you’re like ‘hey, how are you? What’s going on? Ho-ho-ho, hee-hee-hee.’ We really had to go there for this one, and I was surprised by how still her water was.”

There’s Abigail, 13, who is all gussied up in monster heels. A woman shrieks and gives her a hug. Her looks aren’t the only way in which she’s mature.

“She’s so smart for her age, and she knows what she wants,” costar Evan Ellingson tells me. “She uses big words. She’s smarter than I am right now, and I’m 20 years old.”

She also has a child’s side.

Heather, who plays her aunt, says, “The funny thing about Abigail is when she’s on set, she’s a serious person who gets into her character and knows exactly what she’s doing, but when it’s over, she’s a kid again. We put together this puzzle that we couldn’t wait … they’d say ‘cut!’ and we’d be like ‘yes!’ and running back to finish our puzzle. It was fun.”

My Sisters Keeper opens Friday.

Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley Talk Fatherhood

June 19th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

Brad Paisley’s son William “Huck” Huckleberry, 2, is adjusting to life as a big brother now that Jasper, two months, has arrived.

“Most of the time, I think he loves his brother,” the Then singer, who has been married to wife Kimberly since 2003, says backstage during the CMA Music Festival held in Nashville. “It depends on the day. There are certain days when he is not so certain about us – that he’s got the right parents. No, he likes his brother a lot. It’s good. You know how it is. It’s a little bit of a shock for a little boy to share things, and one that I’m glad he has to experience and I never had to.”

Josh Turner and wife Jennifer, who have been married since 2003, are getting ready to welcome a new addition “very soon.” Their son Hampton, 3, loves to go fishing with dear old dad, and they recently “caught quite a few fish.”

“We’ve been trying to prepare Hampton for the new sibling,” he says backstage. “I don’t think he totally understands, but he’s ready. He’s ready for a partner in crime. We’re trying to prepare. We’re excited; we’re ready.”

Dierks Bentley is celebrating his first Father’s Day now that daughter Evalyn, eight months, is in his life. Mom is wife Cassidy, whom he wed in 2005.

“I’m definitely going to get an extra bus and take everyone out,” the Sideways singer says. “It takes on a whole new meaning. I was the type to make a phone call and kind of forget-to-send-a-card-on-time son, and I feel bad. Now that I’m a dad, it’s like I expect some things here. Cards? I mean, it’s my life’s mission. Really, in our house, it’s Mother’s Day that deserves all the major praise with what she went through this year.”

Twilight and Nurse Jackie star Peter Facinelli, who is dad to Luca, 12, Lola, 6, and Fiona, 2, with Jennie Garth, whom he married in 2001, doesn’t expect all the attention come Sunday.

“I make sure I send my dad a card,” he tells me.

Rodney Atkins will be on the road but hopes to carve out time with son Elijah, 7, whose mom is wife Tammy. “We’re gong to be in Minnesota by the lake. Hopefully we’re gonna go fishing.”

Trace Adkins has five daughters – twenty-somethings Tarah and Sarah, from his first marriage – and his younger children Mackenzie, Brianna and Trinity, by wife Rhonda, whom he wed in 1997.

“I am a hero to them now because I did the Opry a few weeks ago with Taylor [Swift], and my kids got to go in her dressing room and hang out with her, and it was a thrill for them. When Miley [Cyrus] played here last year, they got to go in her dressing room and meet her. They really think a lot of me for that.”

Darius Rucker
agrees. While his youngest son Jack likes karate and superheroes, his oldest daughter Carol and middle daughter Danielle are all about Miley and the Jonas Brothers.

“The first thing that happened to me with fatherhood is I realized the whole world didn’t revolve around me,” he tells me with laugh. “That was a big thing.”

Amy Winehouse Needs to Be Rescued

June 17th, 2009

If you think Amy Winehouse’s recovery from drugs in St. Lucia isn’t going too well, what with her alcohol problem, you’re not the only one: her parents say the singer is still in denial about her life and needs to be rescued.

Janis Winehouse tells ITV News that Amy is really in trouble.

"The need to rescue her is enormous," says Janis. "I just want her to be okay and I would do whatever it took to make that right. Amy is in denial all the time. She probably feels trapped, her body is trapping her. But I know with addiction you do not have the choice because the substance itself directs you."

Her mom adds that in trying to get over her drug problems, alcohol has taken its place.

"I want to say to her – ‘Amy, what are you doing? Don’t you know what you’re doing?’ But she by then has got herself on to it to help her get through, and I understand that."

Amy’s dad Mitch Winehouse is hurting for his daughter too, adding, "I need my daughter to be a whole person again. I tried it all – I said, ‘Amy you’ve got to do this, you’ve got to go to this doctor, you’ve got to do this, you’ve got to do that, you’re killing me, you’re killing your mum’. None of it worked."

Mitch reveals that Amy is on a drug replacement program, but that she’s been drinking heavily in St. Luci.

"For the last six months there’s been a remarkable recovery," he reveals."A gradual recovery, which is good. With slight backward steps – not drug backward steps, more drink backward steps if you follow my drift. I think that will be the pattern of recovery."

As for who’s to blame for her drugged out past, Mitch is laying responsibility on the shoulders of Amy’s ex, Blake Fielder-Civil.

"The option of them being together is too horrible to contemplate. They are going to get divorced and who knows what’s going to happen down the line," he says. "Amy and Blake have decided that they want to get on with their lives separately, and if they get back together again in the future and they’re both clean and they still love each other, that’s up to them."

For their own sakes, let’s hope that reunion doesn’t happen for a very, very long time.

More Hogan Family Smack Talk

June 16th, 2009

Will the Hogan family ever reconcile their differences? Maybe someday, but right now Brooke Hogan is still pretty sure she knows best, at least when it comes to her mom’s treatment of her in the media.

"I’m the only one with my head on straight," she tells E!’s Daily 10. "I don’t know what’s wrong with mom… dad and brother are doing good. I’m staying straightforward."

In another interview with E! News, Brooke explains that it’s her mom’s tendency to talk about her that has made her distrust her.

"I look at the things she’s released and said about me and I’m like, how could I ever trust her again?" she explains, referring to her mother revealing that Brooke had breast breast augmentation. "How could I ever look at her and be like, ‘You kind of threw me in front of the bus in front of the whole world… Who does that to their kid?"

Brooke’s been sticking to her dad Hulk Hogan’s side in all the family drama, adding, "I’m just looking at how my dad’s treating me and how my mom’s treating me, and my mom has kind of backstabbed me a couple times. I feel betrayed."

As for her mom’s current boytoy, youngin’ Charlie Hill, a former schoolmate of Brooke and brother Nick, Brooke replies, "He is a loser. I don’t have a problem with age, it’s more about character. Her love is not real and not right."

"I personally don’t like him," she adds after detailing all the material things he’s getting out of the relationship with the older woman.

So is there a bright side to all this for Brooke, whose second album, The Redemption, is due out July 21? Perhaps.

"Life has been really rocky, but it’s starting to look up," she says, adding that she’d rather talk about what’s going on than stay mum.

"You can be judged by talking about it or you can be judged by not. I’m an honest person. I vocalize a lot of my feelings. I might as well do it now, right?"
