Broadway Stars Remember Natasha Richardson

March 20th, 2009

It was a bittersweet evening for Broadway at the opening of the revival of West Side Story at the Palace Theater in NYC last night. Earlier in the night, the lights of the Great White Way had dimmed to honor the passing of one of its brightest stars, Natasha Richardson.

Some of the celebrity guests took the moment to express their sadness and reflect upon the actress’s life on stage.

Patrick Wilson, a Broadway vet who starred on screen with Natasha in 2007’s Evening talked to OK! about his feelings of grief.

"It’s an unexplainable, tragic, senseless loss. It’s just a time for her family to reflect and our prayers go out to her whole family," he shared.

Kathleen Turner, who like Natasha, has worked both on stage and on film was trying to make sense of the tragedy.

"It’s just so damn shocking!" she told OK!, "She’s so young and so good and so sweet. I liked her tremendously. And I know that they’ll [her family] handle as best they can, I feel sorry they have to at all."

Cheyenne Jackson, who was last seen on stage in Xanadu, told OK! how he had worked with Natasha to help others.

"I worked with amfAR a lot and she was tireless in her work with amfAR for people living with HIV," he remembered. "There’s really no words. We’re just walking to our play in the morning, it’s a sunny day and her life is gone. It’s very hard. It’s perspective. It’s unbelievably tragic."

Will, Jada Crash ‘Lakeview Terrace’ Premiere

September 20th, 2008

Will Smith commands the spotlight when he and Jada Pinkett Smith dash into the Lakeview Terrace premiere held at AMC Lincoln Square in NYC. Her brother, Caleeb, has a role in the flick, and the family is out in full force to support.

Will, who produced the thriller, runs through. “I’m a fantastic neighbor!” he says emphatically.

Samuel L. Jackson plays a bad cop and Patrick Wilson and Kerry Washington are his interracial-couple neighbors in the film that is in theaters now.

Hey Will, why Sam for bad cop?

“He has the specific karma to let it all out,” Will says. “He has the specific point of view. I saw Sam from day one with that thing.”

Eva La Rue says Britney Spears would make the worst neighbor. Why? “Can you imagine trying to get out of your driveway every morning with everybody else parked with coffee and doughnuts waiting for her to get up and come out and drive down the street?” she tells me. “I’m sure it would just be a nightmare. Poor thing.”

Here’s Kerry. “Good to see you!” she says. And who would be her pick for worst celeb neighbor? “I would hate to say,” kind and thoughtful Kerry tells me. “You might think that somebody’s going to be a bad neighbor, and then they might surprise you. That’s the miracle of the human spirit.”

Star Jones slides through, looking super-amazing for her. She’s dating a chef, so what’s her favorite dish he cooks for her? “None of your business!” she says, laughing.

Samuel’s worst neighbor? None other than John McCain. “He’s too short,” he tells me.

Patrick is married to Dagmara Dominczyk, whose sister Marika is married to Felicity’s Scott Foley – who was once married to Jennifer Garner (who is now married to Ben Affleck). Tangled web, right? (He also appears with Katie Holmes in All My Sons on Broadway now.)

What’s the key to a happy marriage?

“Communication,” Patrick tells me. “For me, that’s really the important thing. Talking, communicating, trying to be on the same page about everything and making the right decisions.”

Lakeview Terrace is in theaters now.

Stars Can’t Wait for Katie!

September 16th, 2008

After months of seeing Katie Holmes walk to rehearsal for her Broadway debut in All My Sons – sometimes with husband Tom Cruise and daughter Suri – the curtain is about to rise on previews of the play starting Sept. 19, and her celebrity friends are already saying good things!

When asked if she’d be seeing Katie perform on Broadway, pal Jada Pinkett Smith told OK! at the premiere of Lakeview Terrace in NYC last night, "I sure will! Absolutely."

While Kerry Washington says she will also be going to see All My Sons, she’ll be there to support Lakeview Terrace co-star and theater veteran Patrick Wilson, as well, who is also starring in the play. She doesn’t think Katie should be nervous for her first Broadway experience, however.

"I think she’s a talented girl," Kerry tells OK!, "and I think it’s great that she’s doing theater."

As for Patrick, he says it’s "great" working with Katie.

"The play is demanding of all of us," he tells OK!. "You don’t really have time for anything but concentrating on the script, so we’re all jumping in feet first."
