Denied: No Wedding Bells for Paul McCartney

January 26th, 2009

Sir Paul McCartney may be in love with girlfriend Nancy Shevell, but he’s not rushing down the aisle anytime soon!

According to E!, A rep for the former Beatle is shooting down a pair of British newspaper stories that claimed McCartney is getting hitched to Shevell now that her divorce is final.

"There’s no truth to it," says publicist Paul Freundlich. Both the Sunday Mirror and Sunday Telegraph reported that McCartney received the all-clear from his four children to marry the New York native, including fashion designer Stella McCartney, who was famously not a fan of his second wife, Heather Mills.

The papers claimed Shevell had been granted a divorce from Bruce Blakeman on Dec. 29, ending a 23-year union. However neither paper was able to produce any public legal documents to prove it.

Shevell, 49, is a board member of the Big Apple’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority. She split with her 52-year old estranged husband amicably in 2007 and the pair have a 17-year old son.

According to the British tabloids, Shevell and McCartney had known each other for almost 30 years before they were snapped kissing outside a Long Island sushi restaurant in Nov., 2007. Both own houses in the Hamptons.

McCartney’s highly publicized divorce from Heather Mills became final last year, costing the former pop sensation nearly $50 million.

Obamamania at MTV Europe Awards

November 7th, 2008

The reverberations of Tuesday night’s presidential election continue to be felt, not only in the U.S. but across the pond in Liverpool as well, at this year’s MTV Europe Awards.

Host Katy Perry rocked a dress showcasing Barack Obama’s face and joked that "maybe Europeans will love us again now," according to the Associated Press. She also picked up the award for best new act.

Co-host Jared Leto, erstwhile actor and lead singer of 30 Seconds to Mars, wore an Obama T-shirt and got the crowd going by yelling "Congrats Barack!"

Even one of Liverpool’s favorite sons, Paul McCartney got in on the Obamamania, thanking Americans for voting for the Illinois senator. He also played a special song he thought the Obama family might like, the Beatles ballad "Michelle."

The former Beatle took his own share of glory away as well, accepting the "ultimate legend award from U2 singer Bono, who said Paul was "the one person in this hall tonight whose work is immortal."

Comeback queen Britney Spears was absent but added to her accolades for this year with the awards for best album, for Blackout, and best act of 2008.

Paul McCartney’s Message of Peace

September 24th, 2008

Forty years after the Beatles were banned from playing in Israel based on officials’ fears that they would corrupt the moral’s of the country’s youth, Paul McCartney visited the West Bank with a message of peace.

‘I’m here to highlight the situation and to say that what we need is peace in this region, a two-state solution,” he said regarding Israel and a separate Palestinian state, according to the Associated Press.

The musician stopped in at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, said to be built where Jesus was born, and lit two candles for peace.

Paul was in the region for his concert Thursday in Tel Aviv’s largest park, a show that has brought some criticism from some Palestinians that he favors Israel’s occupation of the West Bank.

"I get criticized everywhere I go, but I don’t listen to them,” Paul said. ”I’m bringing a message of peace, and I think that’s what the region needs.”

Heather Mills’ Publicist Quits

July 24th, 2008

If Heather Mills is looking for some positive PR, she’s going about it all wrong.

On Thursday, Mills’ publicist quit after four years, calling the former Mrs. Paul McCartney "an impossible person."

In a statement to Extra, Michele Elyzabeth says,

"After working for Heather Mills for four years, I have decided to cease representing her. Since her divorce has become final, in my opinion, Heather has become an impossible person.

"Yesterday, we engaged in a heated argument during which she called me "stupid." I reminded her that she was not "God" and she answered, ‘I will never ever talk to you again.’ I have been very patient in my dealings with Heather, however, I cannot take any more. I have given her substantial unpaid time and attention. I am owed money. I refuse to be subjected to her outbursts.

"On reflection and given the way I have been treated, I now have sympathy with much of what the British press have reported about her."

Ouch!

Heather,40, has one daughter, Beatrice, from her 4-year marriage to McCartney. Besides her involvement in campaigns such as animal rights and the banning of landmines, she appeared in 2007 on season four of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.

Assault Charge Reversed in Heather Mills Case

May 20th, 2008

It was a reversal of fortune for Jay Kaycappa, who was convicted of assaulting Heather Mills two years ago.

The photographer received an appeal Tuesday afternoon because the former Mrs. Paul McCartney failed to appear at a court hearing.

The excuse given for Heather’s absence was that she was “unavailable” because she was somewhere stateside, but Judge Richard Brown said he had received a doctor’s note saying the 40-year-old charity campaigner was suffering from stress.

Kaycappa was originally sentenced to 140 hours of community service for allegedly assaulting Heather and her friend Mark Payne in a pedestrian tunnel in 2006.

Just last week, another one of Heather’s legal woes came to an end — a High Court judge granted a preliminary divorce for Heather and Paul.

Heather Mills & Paul McCartney Granted Divorce

May 12th, 2008

Heather Mills and Sir Paul McCartney are nearly officially kaput.

A justice granted a preliminary decree of divorce to the exes during a Monday hearing at London’s High Court, Reuters reports.

"On the petition for divorce presented by Miss Heather Mills, I pronounce the decree nisi of divorce on the grounds of two years’ separation," Justice Hugh Bennett announced. "Sir Paul McCartney has consented to the decree being granted on these grounds."

The divorce could be finalized in six weeks plus a day, he added.

Per a March ruling, 40-year-old Heather was awarded $48.6 million in the bitter settlement, which breaks down to approximately $33 million in cash and $15.6 million in assets. The former Beatle will also pay for their 4-year-old daughter Beatrice’s education and nanny fees, on top of making periodic payments of $70,000 to her.

Neither Heather or Paul, 65, were present for the 30-second hearing today.

The couple tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in 2002 and split four years later.

Heather Mills Explains Water-Tossing Incident

April 11th, 2008

The courtroom battle between Paul McCartney and ex-wife Heather Mills, certainly one of the ugliest splits in the history of celebrity couples, ended in March with a nearly $50 million settlement for the model-turned-activist — oh, and a pitcher of water being tossed on the head of Paul’s lawyer Fiona Shackleton.

Now, several weeks later, in an interview on GM.TV, Heather continued her war of words with her tongue-in-cheek explanation of why she felt compelled to douse Ms. Shackleton in the middle of the London courtroom.

"Mrs. Shackleton said something under her breath so I cleansed and baptized her," the former Dancing With the Stars contestant explained. "I thought she looked fantastic… it did her the world of good… I have no regrets."

As for the divide among the public’s attitude toward her, Heather said, "People love me or hate me."
