Dr. Phil: Britney’s Hospitalization “Could Be a Good Thing”

January 31st, 2008 / Author: cwillett

TV talk show host Dr. Phil McGraw appeared on The View this morning to discuss his show’s anniversary, and Britney Spearscurrent drama.

“I don’t think [Spears’ current hospitalization] surprises anybody. All I’ve ever tried to do is help. By that I don’t mean doing therapy, because I don’t do that anymore, but I’ve always felt like let’s get her to the right kinds of professionals — ones that could provide psychological and psychiatric support. I don’t know the circumstances of how she wound up in the hospital today, but if it’s moving in that direction, that could be a good thing."

When asked about his visit to Spears during her Jan. 3 hospitalization, McGraw explained that, “I think the whole purpose in going was to have a meeting and start a low-key dialogue that in some point in the future might make her open to some suggestions about getting some help.”

McGraw stated that it was Lynne Spears that contacted him and requested that he visit Britney at Cedars-Sinai. “I don’t apologize for trying to help or responding to their calls for help,” said McGraw. “I don’t think there was any intent for this to be secret. I was followed in and followed out of the hospital.”

McGraw deflected criticism that he visited Spears for personal gain and publicity, and said that he was motivated by Lynne Spears’ cry for help. “I made the statement so that there wouldn’t be wild speculation about what went on. If they called me now, how can you not help when a fellow parent calls?”

And he reiterated that he would not disclose the contents of his conversation with Britney. “I did not then or nor will I disclose what took place. That’s just not something I’m going to talk about.”

Still, McGraw said he hasn’t been contacted by the Spears family since. “Certainly I haven’t been called or contacted. I know just what everybody else does. If this [current hospitalization] starts her on the road to getting some intervention, then that’s a good thing."

Police Return to Britney’s Place

January 5th, 2008

In a scene reminiscent of Thursday night’s circus (CLICK HERE for full story), there’s mayhem unfolding outside of Britney Spears’ gated community, but this time it’s the cops causing all the ruckus!

Police have been called back to Brit’s private, guarded Los Angeles neighborhood, The Summit, to keep all of the paparazzi at bay. In addition, there are helicopters hovering overhead and camera crews on the ground.

Entertainment Tonight is reporting officers are currently moving cars in an effort to control the media coverage that has been swelling ever since Britney returned home from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center earlier today (CLICK HERE for full story).

Britney’s Release Has Kevin “Freaked Out”

January 5th, 2008

Despite winning full custody of his two sons on Friday, Britney Spears‘ ex-husband Kevin Federline is livid about Brit’s surprising release after only 36 hours of psychiatric evaluation. And, a source close to K-Fed reveals exclusively to OK!, that’s caused him to beef up security.

“Kevin is so worried that Britney will rush his house and try to grab the boys, just like she tried to do last February," explains the source, who tells OK! that K-Fed has doubled security at his Tarzana, Calif., home.

"The boys are safe for now," the source reveals to OK!. "But Kevin feels Britney is clearly deranged, and there’s no telling what she’ll do. After all, this is a woman who two days ago barricaded herself in her bedroom with her youngest child for three hours!" Adds the insider, "You can’t get mentally well in a hospital after 36 hours."

The source recalls an encounter from February 2007, following Britney’s multiple failed trips to rehab and her public head shaving: “She was so scared of losing custody of the boys that she drove to Kevin’s house three times and tried to wrestle her way inside to get her sons," the source tells OK!. "When Kevin refused each time, she took out her frustration on a photographer’s car by banging it up with her umbrella. There’s no evidence that Britney’s any saner than she was that day. In fact, she appears far worse.”

Britney Spears may have left the hospital under police escort this morning (CLICK HERE for complete story), but it looks like the pop star will — at least for the moment — not be going anywhere.

OK! has confirmed the pop star attempted to leave her gated community, The Summit, just after noon on Saturday, but she got only as far as The Summit’s gate, where she discovered a swarm of paparazzi waiting for her outside and flipped a U-turn.

Lil sis’ Jamie Lynn Spears, who recently revealed her pregnancy exclusively to OK!, was also at the house this morning with Britney, but has since split.

Dr. Phil Speaks Out on Britney Rumors

January 5th, 2008 / Author: cwillett

Could Dr. Phil have played a part in Britney Spears‘ early release (CLICK HERE for the full story) from the hospital? OK! has learned that the tough-love talk show shrink visited the pop star early this morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, which reportedly prompted Brit to begin screaming and demanding that she be released.

However, in a statement just released to Entertainment Tonight by Dr. Phil, he has a different version of this morning’s events.

"My meeting with Britney and some family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention," Dr. Phil explains in the statement. "She was released moments before my arrival and was packing when I entered the room. We visited for about an hour before I walked with her to her car. I am very concerned for her."

Dr. Phil’s surprise visit may have something to do with an upcoming special episode of The Dr. Phil Show on the topic of Britney and her family. Rumors are flying that Britney may now make an appearance on the show, which is set to tape Monday and air Wednesday.

Stay tuned to OK! for more details.
