Susan Boyle to Bring Talent to America?

June 16th, 2009

It’s a long, long way from West Lothian in Scotland: Susan Boyle, a worldwide singing phenomenon after appearing on Britain’s Got Talent, may make the trek over to the U.S. to appear on the American version of the NBC talent show.

America’s Got Talent judge Piers Morgan spoke with reporters today and said SuBo is welcome anytime on this side of the pond.

“If she’s up for it and she is well enough,” says Piers, “our feeling is she probably will [appear on AGT]. Absolutely!”

She’ll need some time to rest up, most likely, as she’s been hospitalized for exhaustion and has had to postpone to gigs on the British tour since finishing second. But Piers says Simon Cowell, who is a producer for both BGT and AGT, wants her on American soil.

“Susan singing live to 25 million Americans? That would be great!” Piers exclaimed, adding that, “she still gets a bit tired sometimes, but she is 48.”

Ah, yes, 48 is apparently the new 84.

Come on over, Susan!

Susan Boyle Put Into “Safe House”

May 29th, 2009

It seems that stardom isn’t what Susan Boyle might have hoped it would be.

Instead of swanning about at the Ritz with an entourage, the Britain’s Got Talent star is now holed up in a "safe house" with one close friend until the finale on Saturday.

According to the BBC, the YouTube phenomenon — who has reportedly had two public "foul-mouthed" outbursts in the last few days — is there to escape from the pressure of her sudden international stardom.

BGT judge Piers Morgan has said that the singer has been "distraught" about the headlines that have branded her as an aggressive sore loser after she was said to have "launch a four-letter tirade" when the judges praised her rival on the show, 12-year-old Shaheen Jafargholi.

He even revealed that Susan had "packed her bags" and was ready to quit the show because of all the bad press.

"She just didn’t see the point of continuing if every time she picked up the newspapers there was another avalanche of abuse," he told the BBC’s Five Live radio station.

A psychologist who has worked on other reality TV shows has even called for her to be removed from the competition because of the effect it is having on her.

"If Britain’s Got Talent was an experiment in any university we would have to draw a line on that experiment because ethically we would be putting the person at the heart of that experiment through emotional turmoil," said Professor David Wilson.

Hang in there Susan. We can’t wait to see you on Saturday’s finale!

Celebrity Apprentice: Annie’s friends rally for her

May 11th, 2009

The Celebrity Apprentice finalist Annie Duke may have not come out on top in last night’s season finale – she lost to sworn nemesis Joan Rivers.

But the Apprentice friends she made during the 14-week process, which raised nearly $1.6 million for charity, seemed to be the most upset over her defeat.

“I feel a little disappointed,” Claudia Jordan told me on the red carpet for the Celebrity Apprentice after-party at NYC’s American Museum of Natural History last night.

“Even though I had my differences with Annie, you cannot take away the fact that she raised the most money.”

Brande Roderick has her own theory on Donald Trump’s pick to win.

“I know that it is television so there’s reason behind it, and I do know that Joan Rivers has a new show out with (Apprentice producer) Mark Burnett, so obviously they did it for those purposes, it would be great for their publicity,” she said.

Joan is hosting a new show called How’d You Get so Rich for TV Land this fall.

Brande concluded, “Annie’s the one who actually really earned it and deserved it.”

It’s great to have your friends rally around you when you’re down.

Still, it’s hard to ignore last season’s Celebrity Apprentice winner Piers Morgan, who pointed out that—in the finale numbers game—Joan did come out on top.

“Annie blew the finale,” he declared, referring to the sparring gals’ final Kodak branding silent auction challenge.

“There were five criteria. Joan won three, and Annie won two. Game over,’ Piers continued.

“Annie’s a poker player, and three-of-a-kind always beats a pair.”

While Joan may be rethinking her last heated exchange with the card champion, Annie has already made her decision on whether the two women can ever make amends.

“I’m not interested in people who attack people the way that she does,” she told me.

It’s just business, until it does get personal!

Who Wants To Be The First To Kiss Susan Boyle?

April 21st, 2009

Overnight superstar Susan Boyle’s life keeps getting better.

She’s gone from unknown to Britain’s Got Talent’s breakout, and now the shy Scot, 47, who claims she’s never had a beau, is due one more prize.

“I have offered to be the first man to kiss her,” Britain’s and America’s Got Talent judge Piers Morgan, 44, tells OK!.

The unlikely singing star brought Britain to tears when she broke into a unexpectedly gorgeous rendition of I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables on the talent contest.

And then the world joined in with Susan Fever, with fans from across the globe viewing the clip of her performance some 37 million times on YouTube.

Susan Boyle Not Fazed by All the Punchlines

April 17th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

Susan Boyle, the aspiring singer who has become the hottest thing to hit the internet next to Lindsay Lohan’s e-Harmony ad, had to jump through quite a few hoops before making the big time.

True, she astounded the likes of Simon Cowell on England’s Britain’s Got Talent with her vocal stylings. But prior to her performance, the judges and audience made no attempt to hide their snickering as they openly made fun of the 47-year-old’s appearance on stage.

It’s fair now to say that Boyle showed them, but what was she thinking up there as she faced a sea of judgement?

"It didn’t bother me at all," Boyle told Larry King on Larry King Live Friday night. "I just got on with my act because that’s what you’re there for, to keep going."

Britain’s Got Talent judge, Piers Morgan, says it’s Susan’s confidence that really sets her apart. "I think she’s got an amazing spirit and determination," he told King. "I think that Susan had an absolute confidence in her ability as a singer so she didn’t really care that people were laughing or not laughing. I think she was more focused on the fact that she had her chance, a shot. It was almost like the Rocky Balboa script. Coming out of nowhere and you get a shot, you take it, and suddenly you’re the world’s champion."

Susan tells King she’s taken "a few singing lessons" for two years. When asked why she chose the song "I Dreamed a Dream" from the Broadway smash Les Miserables, she said, "I sang that song because it fit within the circumstances of the particular time. It was the way I was feeling at the time, it sort of summed up what I was aiming for."

Piers Morgan predicts America’s Got Talent Winner

June 24th, 2008

You’re not going to want to miss one second of America’s Got Talent. But just don’t take my word for it. Resident judge Piers Morgan says it’s the best run yet!

“There were these huge lines of people wanting to audition, and we realized after a few that this was going to be a brilliant season for talent,” Piers revealed to the TV Fanatic when he popped into the OK! office last week.

Piers is already predicting who is going to come out on top this year, and it’s none other than insurance salesman and opera singer, Neil E. Boyd. “I think he’s phenomenal,” Piers confessed.

But Piers also revealed there is someone performing tonight who’s already sealed his status as a fan favorite. “I won’t say too much, but he’s one of the best I’ve seen of what he does, and he got the biggest audience reaction I’ve ever seen.

“You’ll be weak at the knees and star drooling,” he continued. “He’s what you call over here a ‘hottie’.”

Don’t worry, Piers, I’ve already made space for our next TV Hunk Discovered!

America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on NBC.

Celebrity Apprentice Winner Speaks!

March 28th, 2008

Last night as I sat in the third row balcony of Studio 8H for the live finale of The Celebrity Apprentice, I noticed that finalist and country singer Trace Adkins’ wife and daughters were sitting a few rows away from me. Coincidence? Maybe. By the end of the night, British tabloid journalist and America’s Got Talent judge Piers Morgan — who raised nearly a half million dollars for his charity, the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund — claimed the Celebrity Apprentice crown and a $250,000 grand prize donated to his cause. And his mum was seated on the studio floor!

Piers believes the title was fairly earned. “I had won the most challenges and raised more money than all of them put together. I deserved to win on a business level, but I also realized that wasn’t the only criteria,” Piers told me at the Apprentice after-party. “What I think swung it for me was the soldiers coming on stage and reminding people how important that charity was.”

Piers doesn’t deny his evil persona that unveiled onscreen. “I don’t think you can hide from the camera or not reveal all your characteristics. I’m quite happy with the way I came over,” he said. “I like to laugh, I like a scrap and I like to win. I like to raise money.” As for his on-going feud with Omarosa, Piers would only exclaim, “I don’t ever want to hear that name in my life again!”

Now my mama goes crazy every time I do something special. How did Piers’ respond when her baby won? “My mom was very thrilled,” Piers shared. “She’s never been to America in her life, she hates flying and she flew out just for this. I’m really pleased to have her here.”

Supermodel Carol Alt was the lone eliminated Apprentice contestant who supported Piers before Donald Trump made his final decision. “You got to hand it to Piers; he raised a ton of money,” she said. But Carol declares the outcome would have been much different if she and Piers had gone head-to-head in the final challenge. “I would have mopped the floor with him, in four-inch heels and a corset,” she laughed.
