No Kids for Ellen & Portia

June 23rd, 2009

While most of Hollywood seems to be racing towards having babies and adopting children and denying pregnancy rumors, Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi haven’t caught the baby bug, and might never.

"No, I don’t think we’re going to have kids," Ellen tells AOL’s Inside/TV when asked if they were going to be moms. " We have animals, and we love them. They don’t talk back, and they don’t explore their vocal chords out in public."

In addition, the newlyweds do have children in their life already, as Ellen explains they’re brand new aunts.

"[Portia's] brother and his wife just had a baby girl who’s a month old now, and it’s fun to be a part of that. But no, I think, you know, we definitely thought about it. And it’s something I think most people, as a relationship goes on, explore. But it’s just a huge responsibility, and I don’t know that that’s something we want to take on. We’re very happily married without children."

Ellen & Portia Get Puppy Love from Humane Society

February 11th, 2009

We all know the entertaining work Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi do onscreen, one as a warm and funny talk show host, the other as a hilarious comedian on shows like Arrested Development and Nip/Tuck. Now, this loving couple are also being honored for their work to help animals.

The Humane Society is honoring both Ellen and Portia at the 23rd Genesis Awards, by giving them The Wyler Award for the news they’ve made on behalf of animals, promoting humane treatment, whether they’re pets or raised for food.

“Ellen and Portia stand up for their beliefs, and they have had a major impact in spreading the message about animal protection,” said Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States.

“As executive producer of the annual Genesis Awards, I am delighted that we are able to recognize Ellen and Portia at an event where their efforts and compassion will be enthusiastically applauded,” said Beverly Kaskey, senior director of The Humane Society of the United States’ Hollywood office.

Past honorees include Sir Paul McCartney and Hayden Panettiere.

Ellen the Blushing Bride!

February 4th, 2009

While many little girls may dream of their wedding days, imagining their dresses and the flowers they’ll have, Ellen DeGeneres says she wasn’t one of those wishful young women, until she met her wife, Portia de Rossi. The talk show host, who is a new spokeswoman for CoverGirl, admits that she felt her most beautiful on her wedding day.

"It’s just very emotional," she reveals in the March issue of Ladies Home Journal of her union with Portia. "You find the person you love, you think you’ve come this far… and anyway, I never thought I’d have a wedding, and I did, and it meant more than I imagined.”

And although she’s one of the faces of a makeup company, Ellen isn’t focused on her looks.

“To me it’s sad to be defined by beauty, because it’s something that goes away and changes," she says. If you’re trying to chase that forever, you’re in trouble.”  However, she adds, "As I’ve aged and matured, I just feel better about myself, more confident and more comfortable in my own skin.  As that’s happened, I think I look better than I’ve ever looked, because that’s just what happens when you feel better about yourself.”

Ellen Talks Breast Cancer

October 2nd, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Ellen DeGeneres has a lot to be happy about.  She has a hit talk show and is newly married to the beautiful Portia de Rossi.

But life wasn’t always happy-go-lucky for the comedienne. When Ellen was 16, her mother, Betty, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

"It was a bad time," Ellen, now 50, tells OK!. "She went in because she had a lump, and she woke up and her breast was gone.  Now it may have been handled differently.  She’s doing fine 30 years later, but she had a mastectomy.  It’s devastating to see your mom go through something like this."

Ellen says her mother’s fight inspired her to live a healthier life. She and Portia are both vegans and Ellen is integrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month into her daily talk show.

"I think anything is possible," she tells OK!. "I believe in faith, and I think we have to find a cure and a cause.  We need to start looking at what’s in our food and our environment."

She continues, "I have this amazing opportunity to reach a lot of people and shine a light on certain things that need attention."

Ellen’s cause is backed by her legal other half, Portia de Rossi. Of being a newlywed, Ellen says, "Marriage is the greatest.  I had no idea it would feel so different.  You can have a commitment and say, ‘This is it’, but there’s just something about being married…I just feel like I’m home.  I’m so happy and more in love.  It’s great."

Ellen & Portia Marry!

After four years together, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi were finally wed on Saturday night in a private ceremony at the Beverly Hills home they share.

The event was attended by only a handful of the couple’s closest friends and family. As Portia, 35, told OK! recently, she was flying in her mother Margaret from Australia for the occasion.

Both brides were dressed in Zac Posen — Portia in a pale pink dress and Ellen in an all-white suit — and exchanged rings designed by Neil Lane.

Shortly after the California Supreme Court released a ruling in May that recognizes same-sex marriages in the state, Ellen, 50, announced on her hit talk show that the couple would be walking down the aisle together.

When OK! caught up with Ellen at the Emmys in June, she joked that their wedding cake would be decorated with her numerous Emmy statues.

Portia’s Ally McBeal co-star Lucy Liu recently shared her thoughts on the wedding news. "Portia’s so wonderful and I think Ellen is super talented," she told OK!. "I think it’s fantastic. I’m thrilled for them and I’m thrilled for the opportunity that they have to do that."
