Stallone Says Mickey Deserves the Oscar

January 29th, 2009

Sylvester Stallone is no stranger to hard-bodied, muscly, masculine movies, so it’s hardly surprising that he’s thrown his support behind Get Carter co-star Mickey Rourke in the Oscar race.

“Mickey, if anybody deserves an Oscar, it’s you," he tells Extra. "No question about it. You lived it. You earned it. You deserve it. You’re an incredibly talented man. It’s about time everyone says, ‘You know what. Give it to the winner.’ "

Sylvester who Mickey credits with helping him resurrect his career, also adds that he wasn’t at all surprised to see his buddy getting award noms for his role in The Wrestler.

“I can totally believe it. It was just a matter of time. He’s a tough a** guy," he says. "He’s old school… Eventually someone was going to do a story that captures his heart, his plight and his biography."

As for his own next steps, Rambo funs should get excited – he’s coming back.

"We are doing another Rambo, but the conflict is whether to do it in America or a foreign country," Sylvester reveals.

Mya Shares Puppy Love

April 2nd, 2008

Pets have changed Mya’s life, and now she’s giving back as the spokesperson for North Shore Animal League America’s Tour for Life. The goal is to adopt as many dogs and cats as possible during their 20-city trek taking place through April 27.

The singer/actress/Chicago: The Musical star, 29, is “mom” to Rottweilers Rambo, 8, and Bear, 7 months, as well as mutt Pepper, 2.

“They love to play catch and they love to play tug-of-war with each other and chase each other around the yard,” she tells me. “Of course, they love to eat. We play a game called ‘Find the Bone,’ where my mom or my brother or I will hide little pieces of dog food or treats throughout the house. They’ll find them.”

Rambo provided companionship for her while she was touring for two years, and when she relocated from California to Maryland.

“She kept me very sane and balanced,” the Grammy winner says. “She went everywhere with me and was a road dog. Loves people, and taught me a lot about being personable. She didn’t walk into any situation with a wall built up. She was vulnerable, friendly and had open arms.”

How have her doggies changed her life?

“She has taught me many lessons as far as trust is concerned. They provide balance, and maybe that’s why I’ve always had a pet. It’s great to be able to come home to unconditional love and something that never changes. They have consistent personalities and they need love and to be taken care of, so it’s also matured me in the aspect that I’m a parent.”

Mya urges those who can provide consistency and responsibility to consider adopting a pet.

“The connection and bond between humans and animals is very special. Both uplift each other. Animals contribute so much to life as far as comfort, connection, responsibility and balance. Those are the qualities humans strive to achieve themselves. These animals have a second chance at life, and a nurturing home is the greatest reward for the animal and yourself.”

As the owner of two cats, Mysty and Spense (short for Mystery and Suspense) adopted from a shelter in August, I am constantly overjoyed at the love and laughs my girls bring to my life every day. Mysty is fascinated by water, and Spense is hilarious batting around anything she can get her paws on. (You should see how she eats — she won’t stick her face in the bowl, but instead picks up each bite.) Mysty is great fun when the laser pointer comes out — she tries to “talk” the dot into sticking around. I truly never thought I would be a pet owner, but — voila! — one day Prince Charming took me up on the whim of getting a kitten. I am so glad we did.

Stallone Defends His Use of Human Growth Hormone

January 25th, 2008 / Author: cwillett

Sylvester Stallone isn’t holding back about his using HGH (Human Growth Hormone) to beef up for the new Rambo movie. The A.P. is reporting Stallone told Time magazine, "Everyone over 40 years old would be wise to investigate it because it increases the quality of your life," Stallone says. "Testosterone, to me, is so important for a sense of well-being when you get older."

The 61-year-old actor directed and co-wrote the new Rambo sequel, which hit theaters on Wednesday.

Sylvester Stallone on the Burmese Genocide

September 27th, 2007 / Author: cwillett

As Vietnam war veteran John Rambo, Sylvester Stallone has caused a lot of destruction, but none of the on-screen brutality can compare to the very real one he witnessed while shooting John Rambo, the fourth installment of the series, along the precarious border of Thailand and Burma.

“[There’s] a full-scale genocide that’s been going on with a cloud of mystery over it because the Burmese are so rich,” Sly tells Entertainment Tonight in an interview to air Friday. “It’s the most brutal regime in the world and the most secretive. It has an oppressive regime that keep[s] all [riches] for themselves. Everyone is forced into drugs or prostitution or slavery."

Dismemberment and cannibalism were prevalent, the actor says, and the film crew itself wasn’t exempt from these deadly situations. “We were on the Salween River and we were told to get out because we were going to be shot. All the people you see in the movie are real Burmese refugees. When it was announced that (a Burmese man) would be playing the pirate in the movie, his parents were jailed and his niece was savagely raped by the army."

But through all the violence, they managed to complete the action flick, which will hit theaters on Jan. 25, 2008, and the 61-year-old assures “it’s the best of all the Rambos," if only for its social message.

"It was a tough shoot, but I like doing it at my age. As you get older you have something to prove, so you push yourself. I wanted to do one more but I also wanted to touch on something that has been going on for 60 years. It’s the longest civil war in the world. The most important thing is you provide entertainment but you also put a light on this savage existence that the people in Burma have to live."

For the complete interview, check out ET on Friday.
