Beyonce: Split Personality

December 4th, 2008

It’s safe to say, Sasha Fierce is getting almost as much attention as her as her superstar alter-ego, Beyonce Knowles.

"Her cousin Angie gave her that name," mother Tina Knowles reveals in the December issue of Elle Magazine. "We’d tease Beyonce about having a split personality. Beyonce would come off stage between sets and start screaming, ‘What’s wrong with you? Where’s my shoe?’ ‘Uh-oh,’ we’d say, ‘Sasha is here.’"

Now pushing both a new album, I Am Sasha Fierce, and the film Cadillac Records, the 27-year-old is busier than ever. But the singer credits the years she spent in Destiny’s Child as keeping her grounded in the midst of her rising fame.

"We were really sheltered," she says of those days with fellow Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. "We would get on the tour bus and read the bible."

In April, Beyonce married longtime sweetheart and rap mogul Jay Z in a secret NYC ceremony. This year the couple topped Forbes list of richest couples with an estimated worth of $162 million. But the singer says it bothers her when comparisons are made between her family (who all work for team Beyonce in one way or another) and another rich and famous African-American family.

"I grew up upper-class. Private school. My dad had a Jaguar," she recalls. "We’re African-American and we work together as a family, so people assume we’re like the Jacksons. But I didn’t have parents using me to get out of a bad situation."

Beyoncé: I Love Rihanna

November 18th, 2008

After loudmouth Kanye West recently said that Rihanna was the best thing to happen to Beyoncé, in terms of motivating her to step it up with her music, the "Single Ladies" singer isn’t taking the bait.

"I love Kanye," she told radio DJs Ed Lover and Free on Power 105.1 FM. "It’s all from a good place."

The artist also known as Sasha Fierce didn’t stop there with her praise, however, going on to confess, "I love Rihanna, I think she’s fantastic and she’s done an incredible job. I love all her records."

As for another of her fellow pop stars, Justin Timberlake, who appeared in a skit mocking her dance-heavy video for "Single Ladies" on Saturday Night Live this past weekend, Beyoncé also has nothing but love.

"I still can’t believe he did that!" she laughs of JT donning a leotard and heels to dance in the spoof. "He was incredible. By the way, we rehearsed it two times and he picked up the choreogpraphy," she reveals. "I know he was joking, but it was amazing, he has this photographic memory. The crazy thing is he could probably kill it if he wanted to. He’s so talented and naturally funny."

The real video, which features Beyoncé and two long-legged ladies doing an incredibly tough-looking dance routine, has spawned copycat versions all over YouTube, as well as the rumor that one of her dancers is actually a man. However, Miss B says that is totally untrue.

"That is so silly man, that is silly," she says. "Both of the girls are dancers, they’re ballet dancers, and their bodies are unbelievable, just pure muscle. So I mean I guess people were feeling like, her body is just so strong. But that is crazy!"

Beyoncé For Obama

November 4th, 2008

All of America seems to be sharply focused on today’s presidential election, and now Beyoncé is joining the legions of celebrities to toss her hat in the candidate endorsement ring for Barack Obama.

"Everyone is excited and it’s time," the singer tells PopEater. "I feel like we have grown so much as a nation and we will continue to grow because of Mr. Obama."

Beyoncé’s admiration goes beyond just the Democratic candidate himself, and extends to his entire family.

"I have had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Obama, his wife and his children, and they are the American dream," she says. "They are so elegant, so classy, so intelligent and everything that I want to be. They make me really proud of my country."

The Grammy winner’s husband Jay-Z has already been a strong supporter of the campaign, performing at Obama benefits and rallies across the country.

Beyoncé will be releasing a new album under the name of her alter-ego, I Am… Sasha Fierce on Nov. 18. Hmm… is Sasha going to try and vote too?

Beyonce: Call Me Sasha Fierce

October 23rd, 2008

When you’re already a household name, why not go ahead and change it to something else? Beyonce has dubbed herself Sasha Fierce, and has requested to be known by that name. Her new double album, I Am… Sasha Fierce is due out on Nov. 18.

"I have someone else that takes over when it’s time for me to work and when I’m on stage, this alter ego that I’ve created that kind of protects me and who I really am," the sultry songstress said in a statement.

Okay, Beyonce, we mean, Sasha; but who exactly is this other side of you?

The statement continues: "Sasha Fierce is the fun, more sensual, more aggressive, more outspoken side and more glamorous side that comes out when I’m working and when I’m on the stage."

And if you’re still not convinced that Jay-Z’s spouse is serious about all this, you can even visit Sasha on her MySpace page, and also enter to win a gift bag and personal messages from the R&B diva, whoever she is.
