Shear Genius winner speaks!

August 29th, 2008

I love me some hair (as you can probably tell by the ever-changing styles I sport in pics on this blog).

So I was definitely down for attending the Nexxus Shear Genius 2 Finale viewing party, held at the Tribeca Grand Hotel Wednesday night.

Winner Denise "Dee" Adames was flying high after collecting her $100,000 prize, and told me which celeb she’d really like to take her scissors to.

Courtney Love,” declared Dee. “I would soften up that blonde. It’s a little too chemically dependent.”

Courtney won’t have to wait too long for her transformation. Dee is planning to open a hair studio in Florida.

“It’s called Dee&L hair studio. The doors should be open by the holidays,” she said.

Winning the competition wasn’t too much of a surprise for Dee, who says she felt confident from the first day.

“I had that feeling, when I won the blind-fold challenge,” she said. “It’s what I envisioned through the whole competition.”

Luckily she kept on her game face for one last challenge at the viewing party. Dee, and her fellow finalists, Charlie and Nicole, had 20 minutes to cut the hair of three women who were donating their chopped strands to Locks of Love, an organization which creates wigs for cancer survivors.

A great haircut for a worthy cause? Now that’s sheer genius!

A Heavenly Return for Charlie’s Angels?

June 25th, 2008

Is another Charlie’s Angels project in the works?

Possibly.

And this one won’t involve Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu, but rather the original heavenly trio of Jaclyn Smith, Kate Jackson and Farrah Fawcett!

"We’d like to do it if it’s right," Jaclyn tells Extra of revisiting their most famous roles to date.

The reunion all hinges on one thing — a perfect script.

"If we have a script that is ‘today,’ it would be fun, I think, to bring us back together for the right reason," she says.

Jaclyn had the longest tenure of the original three on the ’70s hit, staying on for all five seasons. These days, the 60-year-old is back on TV, hosting Bravo’s Shear Genius, which kicks off its second season tonight.

The actress is also keeping in touch with her former co-star, Farrah, who is currently battling anal cancer.

"She’s doing great," Jaclyn says. "She’s holding her own and she is strong and I’m proud of her. She is fighting."

Shear Genius’ most cutting moments

June 25th, 2008

Kim Vo, who is all about getting up in Britney Spears ‘ hair, takes on a new role as judge on the hair-raising reality competition Shear Genius.

If the pop princess’ new, improved attitude has left Kim with a yearning for drama, he didn’t have to go far. These Shear Genius contestants let their most cutting moments take place far from the stylist chair.

"Let’s just say in the future I am going to recommend a hot tub at the house," Kim teases. Lather and rinse!

During the challenges, Kim expected the contestants to deliver him nothing but the best. "I was looking for a true, clean message from their styles, meaning what they say to what they do transforms into the art work of the hair," he explains. "If I tell you I am going to do blonde highlights and then all of a sudden I do red, it doesn’t convey the image of your hair fantasy."

Well Kim, if you want to work out my hair fantasy, call me anytime!

Shear Genius, the new season, starts Wednesday, June 25 at 10 p.m. on Bravo.

Britney Stays a Cut Above

June 13th, 2008

Tired of seeing Britney Spears‘ stringy extensions?

No worries, you won’t be seeing them for much longer.

The singer, who’s been in virtual hiding for the past few weeks, is set to rock a new hairstyle this weekend, courtesy of her longtime stylist and Shear Genius judge Kim Vo.

"We’ve been working on her for a little while," Kim tells OK!. "What we’ve done is we’ve reversed the process of her extensions, we’re adding more of her natural hair and less extensions, so we’re letting that breathe out, her hair to grow, to where she’ll just do extensions for fun. For right now, it’s a lot of her length. It’s about six inches. It’s pretty good."

Brit’s look, which she will debut at the Mirage’s Love show, will feature a bright new color as well — a "light caramel honey gold with baby blonde highlights." The color palette was deliberate — Kim wanted to soften up her image.

"We’re so used to her with that bright blonde, which I didn’t like, and I told her I didn’t like it," he says. "We’re actually using the flecks of her eyes—she has little golden flecks— as a guide to go through the process to enhance her eyes and even go deeper than her eyes, the flecks in her eyes and skin tone."

A new style may be the start of something good for Britney, Kim believes. Having worked with her for four years, the hairstylist has ridden all of the 26-year-old’s ups and downs with her. And now it’s "great" to finally see her do well again.

"When I got back her a couple of months ago, five or six months ago, it was great to see her blossom again and get back to the old Britney," he says. "She’s doing really well."

Things are definitely looking up for the Britster. Her name was submitted to the Emmy longlist for consideration in the Guest Actress in a Comedy series category for her work in How I Met Your Mother. Should the pop-tart nab a nomination, you can bet Kim will be fixing up her follicles for the red carpet.

"I think that’s where she really should shine," he says. "And I think that she should do something that reminiscent of old Britney, but kind of new and chic, maybe I do the same kind of wavy hair but pull it over to a should, low pony tail. Something’s that very different. I think people expect her to look like a caricature of herself. Just chic it up a little bit."

The new season of Shear Genius premieres June 25 at 10 p.m. on Bravo.

Britney’s Hair Undergoing Yet Another Makeover

May 2nd, 2008

From blonde to black to bald, Britney Spears‘ hair has seen it all. And today the pop idol’s hairstylist, Kim Vo, revealed to OK! that he has just given the superstar a whole new look.

Kim, who will also be a judge on the next season of the Bravo reality show Shear Genius, has been the one responsible for Britney’s hair for quite some time — he even did her coif for her famous guest-starring gig on How I Met Your Mother. And with Brit-Brit confirmed to make another appearance as Abby the receptionist, he’s revamped her look once more.

"Last time we gave her that simple look," Kim explains. "Now it’s geek-to-chic. We’re going to keep up that glamorous look… We’ve been adding a lot of blonde pieces."

And while Britney has been known to alter her ‘do on a whim, Kim said that this time the hit CBS show is actually behind the style change.

"I was honestly shocked she did it again," Kim says about Brit’s decision to revisit the role on HIMYM. "She had a great time. I’d love to see her break into something else. I think people want her to make it back."

As how Britney, whom Kim calls "truly a sweet soul," he admits that "she’s very vulnerable." On the bright side, he also says that she is "calm, serene, peaceful" at home and cooks a great chicken!

"Her first focus is the kids," he adds. "But like any 26-year-old, she’s gotta work. You’ll go crazy if you stay home all day!"
