Lindsay’s Shopping Addiction

October 8th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

After snagging a pair of $1,240 Yves Saint Laurent platform boots from Barneys New York in Beverly Hills, Lindsay Lohan arrived at girlfriend Samantha Ronson’s  Hollywood home and threw away the bag and receipt.

Why?

“Lindsay doesn’t want Samantha to see evidence of her frivolous spending,” a pal of the couple tells OK!. “Samantha is pretty conservative with her money, so the fact that Lindsay never seems to look at prices stresses her out. Worse, Lindsay has resorted to hiding her spending from Samantha – not a good thing.”

On the other hand, DJ Samantha earns at least $300,000 a month from her skills on the turntables.

“She is super responsible and takes her work very seriously,” says her pal. “She is never late for a gig and is fastidious about her bookkeeping.”

Lindsay’s only income as of late is the approximately $100,000 she earned from her appearances on Ugly Betty this season — before her publicist, manager, agent and lawyer take their cut.

For her part, Lindsay’s rep tells OK!, “Lindsay works and makes her own money — she is allowed to shop.”

But Samantha’s friend tells a different story.

“Samantha loves Lindsay very much, but in recent months, Samantha has been very stressed about the responsibility she feels she has for Lindsay,” the pal explains to OK!. “Lindsay really needs to be honest with Samantha if she wants their relationship to stay on track.”

TUESDAY: SHOPPING

OMG! Look at those flats!
Walking through Bergdorf Goodman the other day (one of the last chances I’ll have to do so while still an NYC resident) the displayed Marc Jacbos ‘mouse flats’ couldn’t help but draw attention. At $300 + depending on what site you look they should draw attention. Granted they’re comfy ballet flats but how often could you really wear shoes that resemble a mouse – curly tail in back and all? As long as I can remember for a reason I can’t remember my little sister’s nickname’s been mouse. This is a mouse she would like to have in her house. I’m not sure I could stomach spending $300 for a pair of rodents, even if they are made by Marc Jacobs.

TUESDAY: SHOPPING

January 16th, 2008

A good investment - go out this week and get a great coat and boots. We’ve made it past the holiday gift season and the time of year stores stock up for returns and prepare for gift card redemptions and made it to clearance season.

Around this time last year I went to a Soho boutique where I can normally not do much more than window shop and I bought my favorite coat - at 70% of the price it was when I looked at it wistfully the previous November. This winter that kept me warm - as will the deeply discounted black boots I recently bought to shuffle around Sundance this weekend.

If you’re too cold to leave the house because you don’t have that great new coat yet, online stores like shopbop are selling designer coats from favorites like Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B for under $200.

TUESDAY: SHOPPING

December 24th, 2007

It’s five days before Christmas (or was Tuesday when I wrote this), so seems appropriate to share some tips, trips and secrets I’ve learned about shopping around the holidays.

-When shopping between now and New Year’s you have to mentally prep yourself in advance to face the crowds and the frustration-inducing confusion. I’ve found wearing an ipod calms me when fighting my way through busy shops and makes the long lines seem to go a lot faster.

-If you’re buying something that you’re not sure the recipient will really like because ‘they can always just return or exchange it,’ probably best to just get a gift card. After Christmas sales are great, but when gifts are returned with tags and no receipt, they’ll get the sale price rather than what you paid.

-Can’t stand stores at all? There’s still a few days you can shop online and have your ordered express mailed - or hire a personal shopper! You can probably find one easily enough on the web or craigslist but it’s also a good seasonal job to offer people you know for a bit of extra cash. I did it one season just because I like to shop - whether it’s for me or other people.

-Favorite gift of the week: The universal spa gift certificate! You can get the purchase the cards at places like Walgreens and find out participating spas at spafinder.com

-Buy a case of moderately-priced wine to keep around the house. A $12 bottle of wine is always an appropriate gift to bring to a holiday party at someone’s home and you never know when one may pop up last minute - and when it’s cold outside it’s always nice to have a nice bottle of red to uncork yourself.

-And, finally, keep a few classy candles on-hand for the times you receive an unexpected gift and need to appear to have something to give in return

Don’t let the mall ruin your diet! OK! tells you what you’re really eating at the food court

The holiday season is already here, and there are only a few days left to get your shopping done. But before you find the perfect recipe for diet disasters in your mall’s food court, Penny Geller, director of nutrition for Nu-Kitchen, tells OK!, “You are better off getting a healthy snack instead of a whole meal… save dinner for when you get home.” Here are Penny’s do’s and don’ts for the food court, plus some tips on how you can get your workout in, too!

Sub Shops

Stay away from 12-inch subs — they’re just filled with calories (about 600 per sandwich), and cold cuts aren’t the best meat option. Instead, go for a 6-inch veggie sandwich, which has about 160 calories.

Work Out While You Shop!

Are you skipping the gym to get in some extra shopping? Bryn Mars, assistant fitness manager at The Sports Club/LA, tells OK! how to get a workout in while you’re at the mall.

SKIP THE CART
Try to distribute bags evenly in each hand; depending on the weight, you’re burning an extra 30 calories an hour.

TRY IT ON
Hitting the fitting room not only insures that everything looks good, it also burns an extra 204 calories an hour.

NO STROLLERS
Carrying your baby or toddler can burn an additional 50 calories per hour .

TAKE THE STAIRS

Long wait for the elevator? Opt for the stairs and burn an additional 272 calories an hour. Work your butt and hamstrings by skipping every other stair.

SPEED IT UP

Speed walking will get you there quicker and burn up to 400 calories more than regular walking.

NO SITTING
While you’re in line, don’t find something to sit or lean on. Standing burns
61 calories more per hour than sitting does.

Healthy Snacks

Nu-Kitchen’s Geller tells OK! that it’s imperative to eat every two to three hours so you’ll never be famished. Some great snacks: trail mix, fruit or a protein bar (as long as it’s got fewer than 150 calories). OK!’s favorite snack is pistachios. In fact, a recent study at Penn State found that just a 1.5-ounce serving of these nuts can reduce stress. Instead of letting low blood sugar, moodiness or holiday lines make you crazy, have a handful of pistachios!
