The Biggest Loser 6: Live Finale!

December 17th, 2008

And Michelle wins the sixth season of The Biggest Loser, yeah!

This makes me happy for three reasons:

1.    She was the last one standing on the Black team, and everyone loves the underdog.

2.    Her story was the one that truly tugged at your heartstrings as she worked to lose the weight and rebuild the between her and her estranged mom Renee (who looked fantastic too!).

3.    Vicky didn’t win!

While winning the show is based on weight loss, it’s nice to know that someone who played the game fairly actually got the big prize.

It wasn’t too surprising that America picked Ed to be in the finals – in an 84 percent landslide no less! – over his wife Heba, despite his pleas to put her in the finals.

I pretty much felt like America did. While it would have been great to see an all-girl finale, the thought of giving that whiny, "it’s all about me woman" a chance for $250,000 was just unbearable.

Of course, Heba had the last laugh, winning the eliminated contestant weigh-in with a 156 lb. weight lost off her 294 lb. frame. Yes, she would have definitely been The Biggest Loser with those numbers. And I would have hated that.

My only consolation of her eliminated contestant winnings is that the $100,000 prize money will also go to her sweet and devoted (possibly delusional?) hubby. And it’s nice to know that Heba is in the best condition to start their family.

Didn’t Stacey look incredible? To be on the first team eliminated, and then to go home and lose 65 lbs. on her own just goes to show that, yes, it can be done in real life.

Mom and daughter team Shellay and Amy? Holla. Those gals looked fierce!

And Phil? Day-um! Who knew there was a hottie hiding under all that excess weight? His wife Amy looked incredible too. I’m sure she’ll spend years ribbing him about how she beat his final weight by one pound!

Congrats to all the players, who all lost more than 60 lbs. In my book, they are all winners.

They motivated me to get up and hit the gym this morning. That is a miracle!

TV RECAP: The Biggest Loser 6

December 10th, 2008

I knew it. There was going to be a twist for the penultimate episode of BL6 that would throw off the final three players of the game. And in this case, it’s a doozy! But I digress….

With Renee voted off last week, Michelle is the only Black team member left on the ranch. She cries about her mother leaving, while the Blue team jumps for joy on their beds – literally. As much as Bob wants an all Blue-team sweep in the finals, it’s impossible to root for them. They are all just so heinous!

But this gives the show plenty of time to focus on Michelle, who is a gorgeous girl and is looking amazing! (I actually thought it was Jillian in the black tank top doing cheast press ups on the bar during their last chance workout!) Jillian gives her uplifting “Look how far you’ve come, girl” speech, and Michelle realizes, "Yeah, I have," which makes her want to work for it even harder.

In contrast – we see Bob asking Vicky what she’s learned during her ranch experience. Her answer? Nothing. Nothing about why she gained the weight and what will give her the strength in the future to keep in off. Silly girl! Bob points out that the first Biggest Loser, Ryan Benson, has gained all his weight back. Her fears that for Vicky. I do too.

The four finalists come together for a brief moment to burn the clothes they first wore to the ranch. They say it symbolizes their fat days, and they vow to never go back. Okay, maybe Vicky has learned a lesson or two…

This week’s challenge is that the final four have to put back on the weight they’ve lost, in weighted vests, kneepads and booties, and run a racetrack taking off the amount they lost each week and several pit stops. Ed takes an early lead, but Michelle is right on his tail. Still, Ed takes the prize – The Bigger Loser meal plan for his whole family and $10,000. Not bad at all.

More time is spent with the Losers reflecting on their weight loss journey. To be perfectly honest, Michelle is the only one with an interesting story. I fast-forward through the rest.

Time for the weigh-in! They weigh the Blue team first. The numbers for Vicky and Heba are respectable: 6 and 7, respectively. Then Ed gets on the scale, and he’s gained two pounds. Can you say game play? Bob can!

But it’s Michelle who blows them all away with a 9 lb. weight loss. She’s on the top of the heap, sending Ed and Heba both below the yellow line.

That’s when Alison announces that America will be voting for the third finalist. Ed pretty much confirms he threw the weigh-in when he and Heba plead their case to America, and he tells us to vote for his wife. “I don’t need this as much as she does,” he explains.

Heba’s all whiny as she says she was the biggest gal on the ranch and had the most weight to lose, blah, blah.

So now, America, what will you do? Follow Ed’s wishes and vote for his wife Heba – which will guarantee Loser’s next female winner with its all-gal finale?

Or will you vote for Ed, who seems like a genuinely nice guy  and was willing to sacrifice himself for his wife’s honor?

Yep, looks like the final game play is in our hands!

TV Recap: The Biggest Loser 6

October 15th, 2008

I’ve been a little lax in my The Bigger Loser 6 viewing. But with a high school reunion looming in a month, I decided I needed a little motivation. School me, Bob and Jillian!

First challenge? A room filled with peanut butter cups, brownies, bagels, doughnuts and my personal weakness, cupcakes!! Whoever eats the most calories gets to pick who goes on Bob’s or Jillian’s teams.

I never get these challenges. The contestants are there to lose weight, and yet they are forced to eat the foods that got their fat booties there. And more importantly, it’s making me think of chocolate!

Heba tries to take control of the situation by announcing she’ll eat a doughnut to keep the people who have trained with Bob together (sure that’s the reason!). Commotion ensues, a couple more people chow down. But Heba eats two doughnuts and gets control in the end.

Her strategy is to split up families. Hey, her hubby’s gone. Why should be the only one to suffer? And nothing motivates more than family feuds!

Bob is pissed when he learns Phil is off the team. Heba says it was for her sanity. Is your sanity worth losing $250,000? I don’t think so!

The big challenge is the longest in Loser history. They have to climb a mountain for 14 hours. That’s crazy talk!

The teams get at it, realize the challenge is insane and make a mutual agreement to take a four-hour break in the middle of the day.

During their afternoon siesta, Black team’s Shellay and Coleen wonder if the Blue team is actually breaking their pact. They contemplate breaking it themselves.

Luckily, in un-Loser like backstabbing style, Coleen keeps the pact. And the Black team wins the two extra pounds honestly.

At the weigh-in, Michelle — who was considering exiting the game — announces she’s staying, and lost seven pounds. Not bad, girl!

But even with the extra weight, it’s not enough to defeat the Blue team, who take the weigh-in. Emotional moments for the families split on both sides.

So who goes home? Coleen’s got the deciding the vote, and it’s Shellay! So much for bonding during the challenge break.

But the gal who wore a size 18 is no more. Shellay’s now a fit and fierce size 10! Hot mama, indeed!
