The CW renews its TV slate

February 24th, 2009

Time to do a couch potato dance.

The CW has just announced which shows will be back come next season, and the TV Fanatic can’t stop smiling.

Along with my ultimate guilty pleasure show, Gossip Girl; 90210, Smallville, Supernatural and yes, One Tree Hill, have been renewed. Looks like going five years into the future does a series good.

Would be Cover Girls will be working the catwalk again as America’s Next Top Model is renewed for another million cycles.

Speaking of ANTM, I’ve always watched in awe  — and envy — as those 5’8-plus glamazons work the runway. But not anymore.

The series has announced its first casting call for would-be models 5’7” and under as the show preps for its first petite ANTM competition.

“There have been top supermodels in the past that weren’t as tall as the industry demands, like fashion icon Kate Moss,” ANTM executive producer and host Tyra Banks said via statement.  “So we are changing up Top Model for cycle 13 and making it a year for the shorter model!”

Casting calls commence Feb. 28 in Miami, Fla.

Finally girls under 67 inches can get schooled by Ms. Tyra herself! Holla, my fellow shorties!

The CW new lineup!

February 3rd, 2009

If you’ve been craving to know when your fave shows are coming back to The CW, fret no more.

The glamazons who would be supermodels take back to the catwalk under Tyra’s tutelage for the 12th cycle  of America’s Next Top Model Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 8 p.m.

A week later, get down with the devil when Reaper kicks off its second season Tuesday, March 3 at 8 p.m.

90210 will take a short hiatus starting that night, but it’s not expelled. It will be back with fresh, new episodes (and DONNA!) March 31.

And for anyone who’s been scaring themselves with episodes of 13 – Fear is Real, the terror ends Friday, Feb. 20.

Shannen’s Back in Beverly Hills!

October 15th, 2008

Get excited, Brenda Walsh fans: OK! can confirm Shannen Doherty has signed on to do more 90210!

“She is back for episodes 11 and 12,” a rep for the hit CW show tells OK!.

The star who made Brenda famous on the original ‘90s Beverly Hills 90210 has electrified fans of the current remake on the CW, returning to the popular zip code earlier this season along with fellow Beverly Hills alum Jennie Garth.

Shannen plays a grown a grown-up version of her old character, an actress who comes back to West Beverly Hills High School as the drama teacher. Originally the star was only slated to appear in a few epsiodes, but fans have been crying out for more.

“I’ve worked for 27 years, steadily, thanks to very loyal fans," she said recently. "What’s the one way to say thank you? To play a character that you thought you’d never play again in the one show they want to see.”

Thanks, Shannen!

Nastia Takes on Gossip Girl!

October 15th, 2008

What could possibly make winning five gold medals even sweeter? Forget big name endorsements and millions of fans, for 18-year-old gymnast Nastia Liukin, it’s the chance to appear on super popular CW show Gossip Girl.

"I was in Los Angeles having dinner with a bunch of my friends and the producers of Gossip Girl were sitting at the table next to me," Nastia told reporters before being named Sportswoman of the Year by the Women’s Sports Foundation on Tuesday.

"So they sent over a note saying ‘Congratulations. Keep watching Gossip Girl.’ Then the next day they contacted my management and the next thing I know I have a guest role on Gossip Girl."

The young athlete says she aspires to do some modeling and acting, making her guest role, which she’s filming when she’s back in NYC on Oct. 21, the perfect stepping stone to widen her experiences.

Don’t expect to see her doing any backflips or balance beam tricks, Nastia says she won’t be playing herself.

"I was going to play myself and then they thought it would be cool to give me a character," she said. "A bunch of my friends always watch, so to actually be on it, it’s really cool."

Gossip Girl Stars in Pro-Obama Ad

October 14th, 2008

Airing nationally on MTV, Comedy Central and during Gossip Girl, as well as on YouTube, Penn Badgley and Blake Lively star in a new pro-Barack Obama ad made by MoveOn.org. The spot parodies anti-drug PSAs, urging viewers to "talk to their parents" about voting for John McCain.

Directed by Bourne Identity’s Doug Liman, the 30-second commercial features the Gossip Girl stars, as well as other young actors warning of the consequences of voting for the Republican presidential nominee.

"This will be the most important election of our lifetimes when you think about what is at stake. Young people get it, they are voting overwhelmingly for Barack Obama," says director Doug Liman. "Too many of their parents are still on the fence and I thought it was important to make this ad and let my generation and older generations know that the younger generation is clear: they want a future and a country led by Barack Obama."

"Mom? Dad?  I found THIS in your room," says Penn in the spot as he holds up a "Drill Baby Drill!" hat.

"Just because other people your age are doing it, doesn’t make it cool," says another actor of voting for McCain.

"And if you’re ever out somewhere and you’re considering voting McCain, just call me.  I’ll pick you up.  No questions asked," Blake implores the camera.

Love in the New 90210!

September 5th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

After the two-hour premiere of the blazing hot new 90210 on Monday, its young stars have tongues wagging and hearts thumping after all the frisky onscreen action.

(Check out OK!’s exclusive online gallery to see more of the cast!)

So who are these fresh faces, and more importantly, are they single? OK! recently spoke to the cast to get all the best romantic gossip.

Pay attention, boys! AnnaLynne McCord, who plays stylish, sultry Naomi on the show, is currently available. "I’m single," she tells OK!. "My ex of four years, we broke up recently but we’re best friends. He’s the love of my life."

Jessica Stroup plays free spirit Silver on the show, and she knows exactly what she’s looking for.

"I’m not tied down to anybody right now," she says. "I want a guy that plays sports and is humble. If a guy’s going to take me on a date, it means a lot to me how he treats the waitress."

But what about those hunky guys? Well, there’s good news and bad news. The good news, Dustin Milligan, who plays all-American heartthrob Ethan, is on the market. "Given what is potentially about to happen, I’m going to take it slow with the ladies and not jump into anything too quick," he admits. "It’s tough to give yourself to somebody else when you don’t quite know yourself."

The bad news? Michael Steger, the actor behind school journalist Navid, is already committed. "I have a girlfriend, but I’m going to keep her name private," he says. "She’s very ambitious, loves life, and is very positive. She’s the perfect girl."

Don’t worry, there’s still one piece of promising news! Tristan Wilds, who plays the brainy athlete, is on the hunt, and he’s not shy about it!"Ladies, I’m single. I’m not really picky. A girl has to be very smart and take care of herself. She has to know that self confidence will make a girl glow."

You heard him, ladies, start glowing!

Shannen: Joking With Jennie

August 25th, 2008

Nobody played such a goodgirl onscreen with such a real life bad girl reputation off screen like Shannen Doherty – and now she’s back.

Shannen returns as Brenda Walsh, joining rumored "frenemy" Jennie Garth on The CW’s new 90210, but she says there’s no bad blood between the two.

"It’s been a really nice experience, "’ she tells Extra of the experience. "We already have our little inside jokes."

Jennie reprises her role as Kelly Taylor in the popular zipcode, and she’s quick to quash any buzz of on-set feuds.

"No crazy drama’s going on," she insists, although she would love to see Tori Spelling back as Donna Martin. Negotiations between Tori and the show’s producers over her fee to appear on 90210 have been slow going lately.

"I’m really sad that it hasn’t happened yet," Jennie says, "And I’m very hopeful that it will happen."

Catch interviews with the rest of the cast of 90210 airing tonight on Extra, and for a look at the new cast of 90210, check out the OK! gallery.
