TV Recap: Eddie Izzard and our new President!

November 7th, 2008

It’s official. We have a new president, President-elect Barack Obama.

I watched the election countdown go down at a party hosted by CNN. While chomping on burgers and pretzel bites, I watched electoral votes rack up on the giant screens all around the CNN Grill.

On hand was The Riches alum Eddie Izzard, who confirmed that the rumors of a movie version of the defunct TV series are indeed true.

?“I was an elevator in London at an awards ceremony and Samuel L. Jackson looks at me and says, ‘So, what’s happening to your kid,’” said Eddie, referring to his on-screen son Cael, who was last seen getting duped by another group of Travellers.

“I told Samuel, ‘We don’t know at the moment.’ but I’ve posed to the heads of FX and TBS that we want to make a film. And they said, “Right, we’ll support you.”

Eddie hopes to raise finances for the silver screen version of The Riches on the Internet. He also wants to make it a “road move, shooting in Louisiana and New Mexico, everywhere that they steal,” he exclaims. “We’ll do it by the skin on our teeth.”

And yes, onscreen wife and new mama Minnie Driver will be involved.

“I haven’t met the baby, but I called her up and she said, ‘He’s looking at the phone.’ The baby was looking at her and smiling like he knew something. He must have known I was going to call her up and say, ‘We’re going to do a movie of The Riches.’”

Smart kid!

Minnie’s Advice to Expectant Moms

April 21st, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Actress Minnie Driver, may be in the early stages of pregnancy, but it’s never too soon to get advice. The best tip she’s received so far?

“Do your Kegels,” she tells OK! at An Evening with The Riches at The Paley Center for Media this weekend. “They’re very useful pre- and post-birth.”

She says most of her advice comes from friends and family and not the large amount of pregnancy books on the market.

“There’s not that many [books] that I’ve really enjoyed,” she says. “There are a couple really beautiful one that are fantastic, but I’ve listened to a lot of stories from women and I think that’s been very helpful – from my mother, my sister – that’s been good.”

Wearing an Isabella Oliver maternity dress to the panel discussion of the F/X show, Driver admits she is enjoying one aspect of pregnancy – the shopping!

“It’s fun, even though you know it doesn’t have a very long shelf life,” she says. “Since I’ve been pregnant it’s my very favorite store, but I try to be strategic in the stuff that I bought. I’m lucky because I’m tall so I can pull of the 12 extra pounds I’m carrying.”

As for how Driver will be as a mother, her Riches co-star Todd Stashwick tells OK!: “Minnie is one of the most big-hearted women you’re ever going to meet, just generous and loving and she’s going to be a really good mommy.”

If the show gets picked up for a third season, Stashwick says her pregnancy is coming at a perfect time. “By the time that we would be shooting season three, the baby will be out and about and the world will never know that Dahlia [Driver’s character] was pregnant.”

Minnie Driver Confirms Pregnancy

March 13th, 2008

After months of speculation that she has a bun in the oven, Minnie Driver put the rumors to rest, confessing to Jay Leno that she is, indeed, pregnant.

Minnie, who appeared on The Tonight Show as a guest and musical act performing "Mockingbird" from her album Seastories, surprised both Jay and the studio audience by confirming the news. When Leno asked point blank if she was pregnant, Driver responded with a definitive, "Yes, I am," adding, "I love it more than anything else."

The 38-year-old actress told Leno she’s been experiencing morning sickness, although she joked, "I don’t know why they call it morning sickness, I am sick morning, noon and night, but it’s a fair trade-off."

Driver is currently starring in the critically acclaimed show, The Riches, on F/X for which she received both a Golden Globe and Emmy nominations. She was also nominated for an Oscar for her role in the film Good Will Hunting.
