Justin Timberlake: Master Collaborator

February 10th, 2009

Justin Timberlake has come a long way from being just another former boybander. In fact, the ‘N Sync alum seems to have quite the golden touch when it comes to making music.

These days the question isn’t who he’s worked with, it’s who he hasn’t collaborated with in some way.

Whether he’s singing along, beatboxing, or just lending his hotness to a music video, Justin has had his hand in a variety of projects.

We’ve assembled a few of our favorite clips of JT’s best collaborations. Check them out below!

Before they got together and subsequently broke up, JT and Britney Spears worked together on Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club when they were just pre-teens with a dream.

And while Brit and Madonna may have shared a kiss onstage once upon a time, Madge and Justin shared a hit with "4 Minutes to Save the World."

Another idol in the pop community, Janet Jackson, grabbed everyone’s attention with the help of Justin, who grabbed a piece off her costume in the wardrobe malfunction seen ’round the world.

Beyonce and Rihanna have both benefited from their involvement with JT: Sasha Fierce nabbed him for a performance of "Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing" at 2008 Fashion Rocks, and Rihanna cast him in her steamy video for "Rehab."

Justin works well with guys as well as girls, performing with Timbland and 50 Cent in "Ayo Technology" in this clip.

Just recently, JT was all over the Grammy’s, performing first with Al Green, Keith Urban and Boyz II Men, followed later in the show with a set alongside T.I.

While You Were Sleeping

Madonna truly is a generous soul. The singer/actress/workout fanatic donated 100 copies of the new Vanity Fair — featuring an airbrushtastic Madge on the cover — and donated them to the L.A. Kabbalah Centre.

Tonight see Paris Hilton “act” in a cameo appearance on My Name Is Earl. The socialite returns to the small screen in a bit part as a demure 50s housewife. Obviously, it must be a dream.

Lindsay Lohan may be back to her prima donna ways: The I Know Who Killed Me actress is working on a new album for Universal Motown, but has reportedly cancelled several important meetings with producers. “Universal is trying to make her new album a success by lining up great producing talents, and, recently, they even hooked Timbaland. But Lindsay has canceled their planned meetings twice," a source told Gatecrasher. Maybe she was out buying leggings?

One Day With Keyshia Cole

January 26th, 2008

Keyshia Cole has a reputation for being behind schedule, but she turns on the charm as soon as she arrives. The 26-year-old singer is promoting her first flick How She Move, and I get the drift that she’s delayed just because she’s trying to keep everyone happy. She’s friendly and accommodating at every turn.

When we first meet, she strides into NYC’s Paramount’s offices with her co-stars Rutina Wesley and Tre Armstrong an hour-and-a-half later than expected after putting in an appearance at MTV down the street.

(Luckily, we journalists console ourselves with chocolate-chip cookies, and swag including How She Move t-shirts, hats and tanks.)

How has being the reality star of BET’s highest-rated show in history, Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is, changed things for the platinum-selling R&B singer?

“It hasn’t,” the two-time Grammy nominee says. “It just gave people a little insight on me and my family. I wanted that. They need to see – especially the young ladies who buy the album, regardless of what background that might be – they look to me, and they see where I come from, where I’m headed and what I’ve accomplished. I wanted them to know that the behind-the-scenes outlook of it all. It ain’t easy, and I succeeded with a mother like this, and my sister’s going to be OK. Don’t even worry about it – we’re going to make it.”

The next day, I meet Keyshia at NYC’s Planet Hollywood for her handprint ceremony. Twenty photographers bide their time for forty minutes until she arrives with Rutina and Tre.

“I feel like Britney Spears,” Keyshia says, flashbulbs popping. “That’s why you’re driving Britney Spears crazy!”

We head upstairs to a private area, where she samples carrots and chicken fingers. Timbaland and OneRepublic’s Apologize and Nickelback’s Hero provide the soundtrack.

Keyshia plays herself judging a dance competition in How She Move, which is out now.

“When I saw the film, I cried three times,” she says. “I could relate to it. You could feel her character. That’s why I say ‘Rutina’s going to be big, like Angela Bassett’ because she can make me feel it and understand what the character really means.”

Alas, acting is not a career Keyshia hopes to pursue.

“I’m not excited about it,” she says. “I like to know what I’m doing before I do it. I don’t have any experience, and I don’t have time to really get into the classes.”

Her co-star Tre encourages her to turn on the drama.

“I’d love to see you, so if you ever change your mind, let us know,” she tells her.

Keyshia overcame a hardscrabble upbringing, and can certainly do anything she puts her mind to do.

“My mother has been on drugs my entire life,” she tells me. “I stayed focused. You have to have determination, and sometimes it takes sacrifice. You have to be willing to give what it takes.”

Ciara’s Big Birthday

October 28th, 2007 / Author: cwillett

How is pop star Ciara celebrating her 22nd birthday? With seven separate bashes in five separate cities, of course! OK! was on hand at the starlet’s kick-off party last week at Nikki Midtown to dish about what she might wish for when she blows her birthday candles out.

“My wish is for it to be an extremely prosperous year!” she reveals to OK!, “for it to be more fun than last year, that all my plans that I have for the next five years start to pop into place and I find my groove. Oh and to sell millions of records all around the world.”

A birthday party for Ciara wouldn’t be complete without her best friend and right-hand woman Missy Elliott. Also in attendance was LA Reid.

After her steamy video duet for “Can’t Leave ‘Em Alone” with 50 Cent left tongues wagging about a possible romance between the two, Ciara assures OK! that they are “just good friends.” However, the singers blushing and uncontrollable giggling at the mention of her leading man’s name did leave us wondering how much art imitates life.

Who’s the Manliest of All?

October 23rd, 2007 / Author: OK! Staff

Recently, website AskMen.com asked its readers who, out of all the famous men around today, they thought was a “true man’s man.” The huge list of masculine macho-ness was wittled down to the top 49 men today, and over 1 million votes later, OK! can reveal the winner — David Beckham!

Brit soccer phenomenon (and Mr. Posh Spice himself) Beckham sits atop the list, besting other Top-10-ers like new James Bond Daniel Craig, Timbaland and Christian Bale.

Among the surprises on the list — Brad Pitt was nowhere to be seen in the top 10, but his bff and frequent co-star George Clooney did find a spot in that highest tier. And the 40-year-old virgin Steve Carrell found himself with a surprising berth in the top 20.

Keri Hilson Prepares to Fly Solo

October 15th, 2007

The biggest problem transitioning from songwriter to singer is purely superficial. At least for Keri Hilson it is.

“You have to actually care about what you look like now,” Keri tells OK!. “I think the main difference is that I never had to care if my hair was done this much and if my nails stayed fresh and all that, and I’ve never worn this many heels.”

Fashion and beauty aside, there really isn’t a big difference, Keri says, “other than the fact that now you’re in rehearsal, sitting down and producing vocals and all of that but I’m myself. I’m being myself and I think that that’s the best thing about my project.”

Already a powerhouse songwriter — Keri has penned hits for Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Usher, Britney Spears, the Pussycat Dolls and Nelly Furtado to name a few — the 24-year-old is prepping for the launch of her own solo career with In a Perfect World, her debut album set for release later this year.

“It’s something for guys. It’s something for girls, but I have to say you’ll be able to tell how much fun we’re having,” Keri says of her disc. “I don’t take myself too seriously but at the same time I am sharing my inner-most feelings.”

Who’s “we’re”?

That happens to be frequent partners-in-crime Timbaland and Justin, with whom she also performed at the Video Music Awards last month. Citing Justin as her favorite artist, Keri reveals to OK! that she would have loved “to be a fly on the wall during one of his performances” back in the day and can hardly believe that she gets to work and be buddy-buddy with him now.

“Justin is actually very spiritual — a lot of people don’t know that about him,” Keri says. “So we’ve had those conversations where it gets pretty deep and he says, ‘You know you have to hold on to something because it’s easy to get lost in a lot of things.’ It was great [working with him]. He’s actually very quick and if I wasn’t a workaholic I’d be like, ‘Slow down! You’re too quick! Leave me a part.”

The Atlanta native does have a part in their super-secret duet, the title of which she won’t divulge because “it might start a leak thing.”

But before that jam will (legally) see the light of day, her album must hit shelves first so she can’t look too far ahead. “All of my focus is really on getting this one out and seeing this one through to the end and once it’s out and does well and we feel that we’ve done all that we can as far as getting it out and squeezing all the juice out of it, then we’ll go in and work on a second one.”

Keri’s already working hard to generate buzz for it and has taken a page from her idol and former McDonalds’ hawker, Justin. The singer recently participated in the McDonald’s Live Music Tour and hopes fans will cast votes for her on MCDLive.com so she can go down in Golden Arches lore — in a commercial.

“I’m gung ho about that because we actually did the closing show yesterday and I’m very excited, and I would love to be in a McDonald’s commercial.”

Justin Postpones Two Tour Dates

September 11th, 2007

If you want to catch Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveShow this week, you’re going to have to turn on HBO.

The singer postponed dates in Sacramento and San Jose, Calif., originally scheduled for Monday and Wednesday, respectively, after straining his vocal cords from over-performing, his record company Jive Records said in a statement. Under doctor’s orders, Justin must rest his voice for a week.

Justin has been touring worldwide since January and performed at Sunday night’s Video Music Awards, collaborating with 50 Cent and closing the show with Nelly Furtado and Timbaland.

The two shows have been rescheduled for Sept. 23 (San Jose) and Sept. 25 (Sacramento).

The 26-year-old, who picked up two trophies at the VMAs, wraps the North American leg of the tour this month and will head Down Under in late October to finish up his globetrotting year.

J.C. Chasez Evades the Britney Question

September 10th, 2007

It’s okay, J.C., you can say it.

J.C. Chasez caught last night’s MTV Video Music Awards and was left impressed by many and unimpressed by, well, you can probably guess who.

But nice guy that he is, the former Mouseketeer dodged the question when OK! asked him at Jill Stuart’s fashion show who he thought was the worst performer at last night’s VMAs. "Uh…yeah,” he paused. “I don’t even know how to approach that question!”

The singer wasn’t shy about his favorites though. Linkin Park gets thumbs-ups for their rockin’ performance, as does ex bandmate Justin Timberlake, who took home two Moon Men last night.

“Linkin Park – in my opinion, I just love the feel of their performance,” J.C. says. “It wasn’t overly close up on their face, it was shadows and felt like a light show. I also thought Timbaland and Justin did great.”

But nothing compares to Sarah Silverman and her unapologetic audacity. The comedienne took to the stage following Britney Spears’ universally reviled performance and blasted the troubled pop star, which was perfectly fine with J.C. because “she said what everybody was thinking at the time.”

“I thought she was amazing,” he says. “She was like this is where it is at right now, let’s not kid ourselves folks. I lost my mind, I loved it. I thought she was a show stopper.”
