Stars Roll Out For ‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’

December 10th, 2008

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith certainly know how to make a scene. The married movie stars dually shun and invite the spotlight during their son Jaden’s premiere for The Day The Earth Stood Still, held Tuesday at AMC Loews Lincoln Center in NYC.  The remake of the 1951 sci-fi thriller is in theaters Friday.

As Linkin Park’s Breaking The Habit and Living Colour’s Cult of Personality blare, the threesome take turns dashing into a crowd of autograph seekers — a trick my WPLJ pal Brad Blanks calls “the old Hollywood duck-and-run.” As Jada heads into the fan pit, Will returns.

“I’m here so my son can show me up, but I’m going to step back tonight,” Will says. “You guys are going to get me into trouble. I’m not supposed to talk to you. I’m letting him do his thing.”

Is Jaden, 10, giving Will competition?

“You know better than that,” Jada says shyly, standing ten feet away from reporters before moving up to gush about her son.

“As a mom, it’s hard when you put your son in a classic and you hope he can be part of the group to make the movie work again,” she says. “You always try to make it better than the classic, and that’s what is very difficult, because that’s what makes it a classic. But he had a great time and I’m very proud of him.”

Switch! As Jada heads into the theater, Jaden captures the spotlight. Does he feel like a star tonight?

“Not really,” he says. “Sometimes I don’t feel like that.”

Keanu Reeves
steps up, and his charm immediately puts me on his side. He accidentally slams his hand into my recorder as he’s telling a story, but makes no fuss. A reporter asks if there are elements of a certain religion practiced by TomKat in this tale.

“Maybe in the beginning it’s a little more alien-infused, but the Scientology element is happening as well,” Keanu says.

After making this movie, both stars Jennifer Connelly (whose legs are like toothpicks) and Jon Hamm believe in alien encounters.

“I think there’s probably some form of life elsewhere in the universe, given the scale of the universe,” Balenciaga-wearing Jennifer says.

Golden Globe winner Jon agrees. “I just think the numbers are too big,” the Mad Men star, who is accompanied by girlfriend of ten years Jennifer Westfeldt, tells me. “There’s too many stars and planets and people and things out there. There’s gotta be something on top of them.”

Who would Ms. Connelly trust to save the world?

“I wish Obama a lot of luck. Or my kids – they’re pretty clever.”

Director Scott Derrickson fuels my newfound interest in Keanu.

“He’s a pretty serious person with a lot on his mind,” Scott says.

Apparently, The Matrix star is a voracious reader.

“He reads more than anybody I’ve ever met,” he tells me. “It was something new every time, because every time I’d see him, he’d finished the last book he had. He reads a lot of fiction, historical fiction, some straight history, science fiction. I saw him go through many genres in the short time I’ve been with him making this movie.”

Another selling point? Keanu is always on time.

“He’s extraordinarily punctual, and he’s extraordinarily prepared,” he says. “Actors are all over the map on that front, and some of them can be very undisciplined and some of them can do what they want because they’re movie stars. He’s really the opposite extreme of that. He has an extraordinary work ethic. I never found myself ever needing to push him along to get him to work harder.”

Sounds good!

The Day The Earth Stood Still is in theaters Friday.

John & Jen’s Romantic Weekend

June 1st, 2008

While TomKat was busy throwing their mammoth housewarming bash at their Beverly Hills home, a more intimate party was taking place just down the street at the Beverly Hills Hotel, as John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston shared a romantic dinner at the hotel’s posh Polo Lounge on Saturday night.

An eyewitness tells OK! the two looked "very much in love" and "only had eyes for each other."

Around 11 p.m. on Saturday, the pair left the Polo Lounge and disappeared into the hotel somewhere, prompting whispers that they’d gotten a room for the night. However, a couple hours later they finally exited the hotel for good, as John drove Jen in her Porsche SUV to her home in the hills of West Hollywood.

"Jen is so cautious about the men she sees," one insider tells OK!. "John may be a keeper for a while."According to the source, the actress "likes guys who are light-hearted and funny," which appears to fit John to a tee.

And it looks like things might be getting even more serious as Jen took her troubadour boy-toy to meet her closest friends, Courteney Cox and David Arquette. The foursome enjoyed a quiet night in on Sunday at the Cox-Arquette’s beachside home in Malibu.

TomKat’s Star-Studded Housewarming

June 1st, 2008

What better way to christen your new home than to throw a party for 250 of your closest friends?

That’s precisely what Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes did Saturday night, hosting a giant A-list bash at their new Beverly Hills mansion.

Although the exclusive invite said 8:30 p.m., most of the invitees arrived fashionably late, pulling up just before 9 p.m to a valet service outside the iron gate opening into the long driveway curving up to the Cruise’s $35-million estate.

Guests included movie industry execs, Scientology dignitaries and celebrities. Eva Longoria Parker, Kimora Lee and Djimon Hounsou, Tobey Maguire,Rita Wilson, Oprah Winfrey,Gail King, Kyra Sedgwick, Kirstie Alley and Victoria Beckham-who arrived without hubby David Beckham–were among the first to arrive.

Also in attendance–Cruise "frenemy" Brooke Shields, Jennifer Lopez and Keri Russell.

Eyewitnesses tell OK! that the Cruises pulled out all the stops for the party, enlisting good pal and renowned chef Wolfgang Puck to cater the event. From the street, the sounds of horns pierced the warm night air as a full orchestra played big-band music throughout the night, at one point striking up a rendition of the Mission Impossible theme song.

A source inside the party tells OK! that guests were treated to a formal sit-down dinner, which took place outside under a giant black tent covering the entire front of the estate alongside a large rectangular fountain. Behind the main house in the yard, an outdoor lounge offered comfortable sofas.

TomKat picked the right weekend to throw a party. Katie is about to make her Broadway debut in Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, and has reported plans to hunker down in the Big Apple for the duration of the play.

Stay tuned ……

Ivanka In The Doghouse

May 28th, 2008

Ivanka Trump wakes up early to bring Yorkie Tiger out to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Milk-Bone dog biscuits. The playful pup mugs for the cameras during the Times Square event held in a doghouse made of 100,000 dog biscuits. It looks like both mom and pup got blowouts this morning!

“It’s very hard to control the dog with over a thousand Milk-Bones,” Ivanka says.

Guests including Ivanka and Dancing With The Stars finalist Cristian de la Fuente sing “Happy Anniversary” to the tune of Happy Birthday. We nosh on a Milk-Bone-shaped cake created by Food Network’s Ace of Cakes chef Duff Goldman. Mmmm!

Dramarama! Ivanka jumps into a waiting black car before doing interviews. Uh-oh! We’re told she’ll answer questions by phone or e-mail, but we never hear back. Bummer! Ivanka is one of my favorites — that’s why I’m here. : ( Next time. UPDATE: They’re working on it. Yes! Ivanka is the best.

I say hello to Cristian, and spot another familiar face in renowned pet photographer Chris Ameruoso. His dog is sporting a mohawk ! Chris tells me Nicolette Sheridan is one of his favorite pet owners. Her pups names are Fatty and Oliver.

“She literally becomes one of her dogs when she’s with her animals. She could be all dressed up in her clothes, and if her dog jumps in the pool, she’ll jump in the pool after them.”

What does fiancé Michael Bolton think?

“He loves Nicolette and the dogs, too, but he thinks Nicolette’s a total nutcase with the animals.”

One trend sweeping the celeb set is pot-belly pigs. George Clooney owned one for twenty years, and now Reese Witherspoon and Denise Richards also have pigs. Paris Hilton wants one.

“Pot-belly pigs are so smart,” he tells me. “It’s like dealing with a human. If you yell at a 5-year-old child, it hurts. Like when your dad yells at you. That’s what a pig feels. People don’t realize that. It’s a negative and a positive at the same time. They’re good pets but they’re not like owning a dog. They’re very clean and they have a lot of personality and they get very nippy, but people get scared of them when they get older because they come and start nibbling at you. They’ve got little chompers, and it hurts. I’m hoping that 2-3 years from now we don’t start seeing all these pot-belly pigs. It is a fad, like the girls walking the red carpet with their small dogs.”

Chris recommends TomKat get a Labrador for Suri. “Kids can sit there and roll on them and play with them and hit them and they’re OK with it,” he tells me.

Hooray! Milk-Bone raises $1 million to donate to its Milk-Bone Canine Heroes program, which helps dogs serving law enforcement agencies and the physically disabled.

TomKat, Beckhams, Scarlett Step Out For Met Gala

May 19th, 2008

Scarlett Johansson shows off her engagement ring as she strides into the annual Costume Institute Gala during the superhero-themed soiree held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.

The 23-year-old beauty is the belle of the ball, and everyone including Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, Eva Longoria Parker, TomKat, the Beckhams and more will congratulate her on the milestone.

Meanwhile, throngs of reporters are camped out on either side of the steps hoping to capture the attention of Hollywood’s brightest stars. Tom Cruise waves as Katie Homes beams while Julia Roberts, George Clooney and Sarah Larson make their way into the party.

How did regal-looking Victoria Beckham pick out her dress?

Mr. Armani picked it out for me,” Posh says, turning around before she goes into the event. “I love it.”

Fergie’s ponytail is in full swing as Donald Trump (and his hair) plus wife Melania and daughter Ivanka stroll through.

What superpower would Taylor Swift most enjoy?

“I’d want to see what people were thinking in a subtitle underneath what they were saying,” she says. “That would be fantastic.”

Diane Kruger’s inspiration for her dress is She-Ra, the Princess Warrior. “I feel very sexy.” Her boyfriend, Joshua Jackson, longs for the ability to fly. “Just to be able to get around the lines at the airport. It would shave hours off the trip.”

When Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively is asked what she would do if she lost her Ralph Lauren bracelet, her rep chimes in. “She’s very responsible. She never loses things.” Blake laughs nervously. Her rumored beau, Penn Badgely, says he needs to draw the line between his personal and private life. (Good move) But he agrees that Blake looks beautiful tonight.

Ellen Barkin and Lauren Hutton blush as they reveal their secrets to aging well. “I feel like I’m in high drag,” Lauren says. Chris Noth expresses an affinity for the Fantastic Four … Hayden Christensen (with Rachel Bilson) gives props to Superman … Amanda Peet is loving The Hulk … Mischa Barton’s favorite is Wonder Woman … and Emily Mortimer goes for Flash Gordon. “He’s the campest,” she says. Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick prefers Batman. “He’s the only superhero that actually exists.”

Helena Christensen can’t wait to go inside.

“There’s something very magical about tonight,” she says.

Cover Story: Oh, How They’ve Grown!

March 26th, 2008

It seems like just yesterday the world was awaiting the births of two of Hollywood’s most anticipated babies: Shiloh Jolie-Pitt and Suri Cruise. Today, as these two precious tots get ready to celebrate their second birthday, it’s safe to say that both Shiloh and Suri have accomplished more than the average adult, traveling the world and hobknobbing with some of Hollywood’s elite.

From private planes to European vacations, houses all over the globe to whirlwind goodwill trips, Suri and Shiloh are experiencing more of the world than most people ever dream of. Of course, all thanks goes to mom and dad, who make it all possible! Suri’s parents, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, have taken their little girl everywhere since her birth, including their 2006 honeymoon in the Maldives Islands and a summer vacation in Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, France. Last fall, Suri jet-setted to Germany, where she and Katie lived while dad Tom was shooting a film in Berlin.

When she’s not travelling with mom and pop, little Suri relaxes in her brand new Beverly Hills mansion, which just completed renovations. And don’t forget about all the designer clothes! Mama Katie is making sure Suri gets a taste of high fashion early on, dressing her in Christian Louboutin baby shoes and Armani dresses.

Life’s not so shabby for Shiloh, either. Her parents, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, are two of Hollywood’s most desired stars, and yet they’re working hard to make sure their little girl grows up to be a woman of the world. With a home base away from the shining light of Tinseltown, Shiloh spends her days with her three siblings, Maddox, Pax and Zahara, in New Orleans, helping dad build homes for Hurricane Katrina victims in the lower ninth ward.

But don’t think life is all work for this golden-haired toddler. Last March, Shiloh visited her dad on the New Orleans set of his movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and enjoyed carriage rides through the Big Easy with Grandma Pitt, and recently got to pick out armfuls of toys with mom during a trip to NYC’s famed FAO Schwarz toy store.

And don’t forget, Shiloh started out as a world traveler, being born in Namibia, Africa! With Angelina’s expecting again, Shiloh will have yet another sibling(s) to add to the globetrottng crew of Jolie-Pitts.

OK! Exclusive: Inside Katie Holmes’ Baby Plans

January 16th, 2008

The writers strike is affecting everything in Hollywood these days — including Katie Holmesbaby plans! The Mad Money star is well aware that to be a working actress and a mom, it is crucial to plan pregnancies so they don’ t interfere with her career.

Katie had hoped to begin filming The Other Side this month in Nova Scotia, but the financing has yet to be completed. "She had it all figured out. She’d shoot The Other Side and then get pregnant," Katie’s friend tells OK! (The movie would have been released mid-to-late fall). "She’d have the baby by year-end, go back to work next spring and have another film out by the end of 2009."

According to her friend, the limbo status of the film (which also stars Jason Lee and Woody Harrelson) is driving Katie crazy. "She doesn’t know what to do. If she gets pregnant and The Other Side comes together or the strike ends, and she’s offered something else great, she’ll be off the market," Katie’s friend confides to OK! "Both she and Tom — especially Tom — were hoping to have their next baby before Katie turns 30 in December."

OK! Exclusive: TomKat Hits NYC for Marathon

November 2nd, 2007

Only hours after walking the red carpet at the L.A. premiere of Lions for Lambs, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes hopped an east-bound private plane headed for Manhattan, where sources confirm to OK! that Katie is planning on taking part in Sunday’s New York City Marathon.

As OK! exclusively reported several weeks ago, after months of secretly training in predawn runs in Beverly Hills and Berlin, Suri’s mom is scheduled to make her first-ever marathon run this weekend. The 28-year-old actress, who celebrates her first wedding anniversary to Tom on Nov. 18, will join thousands of other masochists runners, including cyclist Lance Armstrong, in the race that begins at the foot of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge in Staten Island and works its way through Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx and then back to Manhattan, where everyone collapses in exhaustion in Central Park.

Assuming Katie makes it all the way, she’ll have quite a welcoming committee at the finish line, as several members of the Holmes family are flying in from Ohio to cheer her on. They’ll join her superstar hubby at the Finish Live Banquet at Tavern on the Green where they can watch the race on monitors, get updates on racers — “Go Katie!” — and be just feet away from the racers as they clock in.

Oh, and just in case you believe the newest batch of pregnancy rumors surrounding TomKat, OK! spoke to Katie’s rep who says in no uncertain terms that the actress is “not pregnant.”

COUNTDOWN: Age Ain’t Nothin’ but a Number

November 1st, 2007

News of cyclist Lance Armstrong’s late-night canoodling with mega-twin Ashley Olsen may come as a surprise to some who find the 15-year age difference — he’s a fit 36 and she’s a wee 21 — a surprise. But, in Hollywood, pairings between “dirty old men” and bright young ingenues is nothing new.

A nubile young ladyfriend or wife is par for the course among Tinseltown’s silver foxes (“I’ll take one Beverly Hills mansion, a garage full of fast cars and succession of younger and younger trophy wives, please!”). Just look at Michael Douglas — who settled down with Welsh beauty Catherine Zeta-Jones, 24 years his junior, or Tom Cruise, whose first wife Mimi Rogers had five years on him, but who has gone 16 years the other way with wife #3, Katie Holmes.

But while Lance may simply be following a well-worn path of May-December romances, there are also plenty of Hollywood ladies who are choosing to marry mates 10 or 15 years younger. Courteney Cox, Demi Moore and Madonna all married men significantly younger than them. Heck, even Lance’s most recent high-profile relationship was with Sheryl Crow — a woman nine years his senior.

Keeping all that in mind, here’s OK!’s countdown of Hollywood’s most-intriguing age-defying romances:

(CLICK HERE TO SEE ENTIRE GALLERY)

8. Courteney Cox & David Arquette: On paper, she’s only eight years older than spastic hubby David, but she often seems more like his mother than his wife. Cool Courteney often plays straight man to her wacky husband’s childish ways .

7. Susan Sarandon & Tim Robbins: Dammit, Susan, you’re 12 years older than your beau of almost 20 years — the pair have never married, despite having two children together! — whom she met while seducing him onscreen in Bull Durham.

6. Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes: As a girl, the former Dawson’s Creek starlet had a poster of her future hubby up on her bedroom wall. Now she shares a bedroom with him. Some say “awwww…” Other say “ick!”

5. Madonna & Guy Ritchie: The Kaballah mama is 10 years older — and tons more famous — than her filmmaker husband, who directed wifey in the 2002 stinker Swept Away, which did just that to both of their movie careers.

4. Billy & Katie Lee Joel: Former Top Chef host Katie Lee was 24 — only five years older than her new stepdaughter, Alexa Ray — when she married the piano man, who is 25 years her senior.

3. Woody Allen & Soon Yi-Previn: Sure, these two have 35 years separating them — but that’s the least of their problems. The legendary director met his future bride while in a 12-year relationship with her adoptive mom, Mia Farrow! Daddy issues anyone?

2. Halle Berry & Gabriel Aubrey: The Oscar-winner’s soon-to-be-baby-daddy is nine years younger than she is. Good thing — he’ll need his youthful energy to keep up with their new tot.

1. Demi Moore & Ashton Kutcher: The Punk’d dude isn’t just 15 years younger than his bride — he’s actually closer in age to two of her three daughters! Well hello, daddy!
