Jessica Biel, Justin Timberlake Create ‘Easy Virtue’

September 18th, 2008

Jessica Biel is radiant and glowing during the Easy Virtue premiere held during the Toronto International Film Festival at the Elgin Theatre. She plays a bride in the romantic comedy.

Theatergoers are urged to keep moving more incessantly than usual, which makes us wonder – is her boyfriend Justin Timberlake putting in an appearance?

Regrettably, our time with Jessica herself is just a dream because the joke reporter crashes — thanks to that deceiving TV camera that reps and stars crave.

“What are you wearing?” he asks.

“Alexander McQueen,” Jess responds, unaware.

“I don’t do what are you wearing,” Mr. On Camera snidely responds. “You could wear a book, a pan, but I’ve gotta say – such humility. Could you look at the camera and say ‘this is Jessica Biel?’”

She is not amused, and walks away brushing off the rest of the line.

The reporters give Mr. Joke the beatdown.

“I have fantastic in-laws,” Colin Firth, who plays the groom, attests as he slides through.

Were there a lot of photographers on the scene when J.T. visited J.B.?

“When Justin turned up one day, it got out of hand,” director Stephan Elliott says. “There’s a 1920s dinner scene where everybody’s dressed to the nines, and there are these lenses coming up in the background of the shot.”

And what’s Jessica really like?

“She’s incredibly pure, she’s beautiful and she’s nice to you,” cowriter Sheridan Jobbins tells me. “She’s kind of a masterpiece.”

Alas, no Justin.

Ed Norton Talks Pride, Glory and Being a Twin

September 9th, 2008

In the movie Leaves of Grass, Edward Norton plays identical twin brothers.  It’s not a far stretch for the actor, who actually is a twin himself.

While at the Toronto Film Festival, Norton, 39, talked about working with his twin brother on his latest film, Pride And Glory.

"My brother produced the movie," he told reporters during a press conference for the movie.  "And he did a great job.  We’ve been creatively working together for a long time."

The Golden Globe winner said despite the closeness he and his brother now share, it wasn’t always easy growing up with a twin.

"My mother dressed us the same," he said.  "I remember when I was young, I hated it.  I always felt like I didn’t want to look like anybody else, so – I don’t remember what age – but I finally said ‘Mom!’ ".

Norton continues, "Home is as chaotic as the rest of the world.  Growing up, that was my experience."

Brad: George Hates Children

September 8th, 2008

Buddies and often co-stars, Brad Pitt and George Clooney like to go for laughs when it comes to questions about their personal lives.

During the Toronto International Film Festival Extra’s Jerry Penacoli asked Brad if George would be serving as godfather to his newborn twins, Knox and Vivienne.

“No, he hates children," joked Brad. "Are you kidding? I love them [the twins] too much to subject them to George.”

The handsome twosome have had plenty of practice recently answering questions for each other on their personal lives, as they’ve been making the rounds at film festivals to promote their new movie, Burn After Reading.

During a press conference at the Venice Film Festival, George was the one using jokes to deflect questions from curious reporters.

“I am so surprised to hear that question," George responded, after being asked if it was his turn to settle down. "That is honestly the first time I’ve been asked that question," he quipped, adding. "I am getting married and having children today. Brad?”

”And until then I’ll be sharing mine with him," Brad picked up. "I’ll have two more by next year.”

Kate Beckinsale’s Balancing Act

September 8th, 2008

As one of the most in-demand female faces on the screen these days, Kate Beckinsale has her pick when it comes to which roles she takes.

But along with her busy career, the actress also manages to have a family life as well, with husband Len Wiseman and daughter, Lily, from her relationship with actor Michael Sheen.

So how does she do it all?

"She [Lily] has two fathers, and two sets of grandparents and iChat," Kate told OK! at a press conference for her movie Nothing But the Truth, showing at the Toronto International Film Festival. "I put her to bed every night and had breakfast with her every morning and went home almost every weekend, so I think the key is not to be away for longer than five weeks."

"We got through it pretty unscathed. It’s a struggle, you know?," she confesses. "Sleeping is what goes by the wayside."

Even Rod Lurie, the film’s director, had high praise for the busy mom.

"I must say Kate is very inspirational to watch with her parenting," he says. "Every candid photo we have of Kate, she’s texting her daughter. It’s unbelievably lovely and sincere."

Rod is so inspired by Kate and her family that he says he might channel those emotions onto the silver screen.

"To see the joy that’s in her eyes when her husband and her child came on the set is fantastic," he says. "As a dad, it’s really very nice. I’ll make a movie about it."

Colin Farrell: The Nicest Guy in Hollywood?

September 13th, 2007

The Toronto Sun reports that Colin Farrell helped a homeless guy out. The man known as Stress actually met Colin four years ago while Colin was in town shooting a movie. At the time, a radio station was offering $2,000 to anyone who could get Colin down to the station. Stress did just that.

The two reunited this week after running into each other on the street. Colin took him over to a local shop where reports are saying he told employees, “Get him anything he wants.”

Stress went on to buy $2,100 worth of merchandise. But, Colin’s generosity doesn’t end there. He also paid a one year lease for Stress, reportedly worth about $10,000.

It seems Colin is one nice Irish lad!

Quick Notes

September 7th, 2007

Toronto is such a cute city! One thing I love the most is that like NYC, it’s so walkable, full of shops, sidewalk cafes and has a great mix of modern and historic architecture. This week it also has a healthy dose of celebrity.A few quick notes so far…-

Terrance Howard’s movie with Jodie Foster premiered at the festival opening night. The film is called “The Brave One,” but on the red carpet the Oscar winner said, “I’m a chicken,” and admitted he was afraid of the dark till he was 25-years-old!
-I think Hilary Duff is staying at the hotel where I’m staying. Walking back I saw her and her Candian NFL-player beau Mike Comrie getting into an SUV. I like that couple. Hopefully having a good guy like him has softened the blow of seeing her longtime boyfriend Joel Madden about to become a father with his new girlfriend Nicole Richie.
-I’m told George Clooney, who’s promoting his film “Michael Clayton” at the festival, is bringing a date - 28-year-old Sarah Larson. The pretty brunette was also on George’s arm at the recent Venice and Deuville film festivals and had become his regular companion since they met Sarah while she was waitressing at MOON Nightclub in Las Vegas. George’s friend Matt Damon met his wife Luciana when she was a waitress in Miami - and then he married her, had a kid and has looked utterly blissful since. But, is Sarah a film festival fling -or the girl who can convert George from his longtime confirmed bachelor status.
