Tracy Morgan’s Apartment Catches Fire

February 18th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

UPDATE: Actress Sherri Shepard, who plays Tracy’s wife on 30 Rock and who also happens to live below her TV husband in real life talked to OK! about having to vacate her apartment this morning before heading to work on The View.

Ironically, until she talked to OK!, she had no idea the fire was her co-star’s fault.

"It was Tracy’s apartment? I had to evacuate for Tracy?" she asked OK!. "You’re kidding me. I didn’t know that."

Sherri adds that her son is okay, but that her apartment is flooded and she’s unsure of the extent of the damage.

"My son has lung issues, so I’m kind of concerned about that," she tells OK!. "But I’m not pissed, I’m just glad everyone is okay. And I’ve got all my hair – all my wigs.

"I’m glad nobody got hurt," she adds. "And if any clothes of mine got messed up, I’m sure Tracy will pay for them."

Meanwhile, in a statement, Tracy tells OK! about the incident: "A fire broke out in my Manhattan apartment this morning, apparently starting with a lamp attached to my fish tank.  The sprinklers promptly activated and the NYFD[sic] came by to make sure it was contained. Fortunately, the fire did not spread and no one in the building was injured – even the fish are okay.  My thanks to the New York Fire Department for their quick action.

OK! was the first to break the news this morning when sources told OK! this morning that 30 Rock funnyman’s apartment caught fire earlier today, causing extensive damage.

According to one insider, the incident, which occurred Wednesday morning, caused him to lose most if not all of the contents of his apartment in the swanky Trump Place building on NYC’s Riverside Boulevard.

Most damage to the apartment was caused by the sprinklers that went off when a fish tank caught on fire. Making matter worse, says the source, the sprinklers were also triggered in neighboring apartments, though it’s still unclear as to the total extent of the damage.

Eyewitnesses on the scene say the FDNY came on the scene quickly and left just as fast, although they returned later to take pictures, most likely for insurance reasons. While the number of emergency vehicles that responded to the scene is still unclear, a fellow resident tells OK! that there were as many as 20 fire trucks and medical vehicles at the site.

Tracy’s assistants were also on hand to cart some of his belongings out of the damaged apartment.

Eve, Wyclef, Estelle Give Props To Hip Hop

October 6th, 2008 / Author: Valerie Nome

Stars roll down the purple carpet outside NYC’s Hammerstein Ballroom just in time for VH1’s Hip Hop Honors, which airs tonight.

Here’s Eve, who is here to honor to Slick Rick.

“I’m very nervous that I’m going to get the lyrics right,” she admits. “If I don’t get nervous, I get worried. I feel like it’s going to be bad. When I get nervous, I’m good.”

Up next is the always-affable Wyclef Jean, who happens to be in town at the same time as his good friends Brangelina and family.

“They’re doing great,” he tells me. “They’re great people, and actually I was just at a Clinton event, CGI. They didn’t come, but they definitely sent their support to our foundation Yele Haiti due to the flood that just happened a few weeks ago. They’re great people, great friends of mine, they’re just great human beings.”

Has he gotten to baby-sit twins Knox and Vivienne? “No comment, baby.” And what theme song would best describe the family? Wyclef sings a familiar melody. “Monday, Tuesday, Happy Days; Wednesday, Thursday, Happy Days…I like that one.”

Kid Rock slides through with a cigar in hand. When asked what he’s working on, he thinks for a moment. “I’m working on myself,” he says. Good answer!

Also looking for self-improvement is Estelle, who is riding the charts with Kanye West thanks to American Boy. According to the Brit crooner, the Golddigger rapper is misunderstood. “People were like ‘he’s an idiot, he’s awful,’ and he’s never been that way,” she tells me. “I look at him from the perspective that he actually believes in himself. I think that’s amazing! I think that’s what every human being should be about. Why not? Why not say I’m the ****? Especially because everyone is. If everyone felt that way and had that confidence in themselves, the world would be a much better place. There would be a lot less crazy going on.”

How does she feel about the melee he got into with the paparazzi?

“Sometimes they get in your face, and I don’t think he reacted particularly wrong,” Estelle says. “They probably deserved it. I would have the same reaction myself, like ‘get it out of my face.’ I’m just glad to do what I do. I don’t hate them.”

Here is clock-wearing Flava Flav to provide comic relief. “I heard somebody asked Barack Obama ‘are you black?’ and he said ‘yes, I’m black but not as black as Flava Flav.’ Wowwwwwww. Let me find out that Flava Flav is renting a spot in Obama’s mind. I love Obama.”

Host Tracy Morgan couldn’t be more excited about working with Oprah Winfrey on 30 Rock. “Oprah don’t do nobody else’s sitcom,” he tells me. What’s he going to say when he meets her? “How you doin’? What’s up? Let me hold some money. I need it. Bail me out.” And what about boss Tina Fey’s impression of Sarah Palin? “Her impression in itself might decide who is going to be president of the United States. I think Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin was on the money.”

MC Lyte recently saw her good pal Janet Jackson perform in concert before she fell ill. Why does Miss Jackson make a good friend? “She’s honest,” MC tells me. “It’s hard to find that sometimes. Also I make it my business to have friends around me who I want to be like or I want to embody something from them that’s very positive. That’s who she is to me.” What does Janet have that she hopes to emulate? “The work ethic is crazy. To prepare for this tour, it was rehearsals for four months. I’d never do that! Rehearse for four months, are you kidding? But she does it, and I think that work ethic comes from being a Jackson no doubt. That’s how I aspire to be.”

Busta Rhymes can’t resist talking politics. “The most appropriate people for the slots, their names begin with Bs, just like mine.” Hahaha.

Hey, there’s Ugly Betty’s Freddy Rodriguez. Will Gio get back with Betty? "Oh I don’t know, you’ve gotta wait and see. You’ve gotta watch."

Tracy Morgan gets scary

July 9th, 2008

Tracy Morgan wants to scare you.

The 30 Rock star is moonlighting as host of SciFi Network’s hidden camera series, Scare Tactics, where unsuspecting people are put into hilariously spooky situations and caught on camera.

While talking to the Saturday Night Live alum may seem like a scary proposition in itself, I took the plunge. And everything turned out pretty darn funny.

What are you bringing to the show as the new host?

I bring Tracy Morgan, the personality. Hopefully because of my Saturday Night Live prominence, people will see me and they will want to watch the show, and it will be frightening and they’ll get a kick out of seeing other people surprised.

And being scared?

People love to see other people get scared. It’s the funniest thing in the world, especially if it’s not happening to you!

Do you have a favorite skit from this upcoming season?

I don’t have a favorite because all of them are funny. It’s just so funny to see people just having to act naturally towards certain situations that are so far out, and then for them to see and realize they’ve been on Scare Tactics. It’s just great. It’s like when I was on Punk’d, ya know? It was for real in the moment, but when I realized I was being punked by Ashton Kutcher, it was wonderful.

You star on 30 Rock with Tina Fey. What’s it like working with her?

Beside the fact that she’s gorgeous and hot? She’s very very smart and very very funny and I thank God that she was the one that picked me to be on her TV show with her. She’s like a sister to me.

You’re celebrating your fortieth birthday this year. Any special plans?

It’s a milestone for me. I’m just going to spend it with my friends, and my family and  my loved ones, and just look forward to 41.

Have you learned anything in your 30s that you’ll take in to your 40s?

Forget about the 20s. Stay looking forward. I look forward to my grandkids graduating from high school and my granddaughter playing with her bubbles. Who knows when that time will come, but I just look forward to it.

You don’t have grandchildren yet, do you?

No way. My children are still virgins. I’m too young to be a grandparent. But not in the ghetto. My aunt is 20-years-old and she’s a grandparent! (laughs)

Scare Tactics
returns Wednesday, July 9 at 10 p.m. on SciFi.
