Gwyneth Doubts Joaquin’s Career Change

March 16th, 2009

Bad sign for Joaquin Phoenix and the load of crazy he’s been trying to sell fans lately – even his Two Lovers co-star Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t believe he really wants to quit acting and become a rapper.

"I’m not a hundred percent sure that that’s really going to be the case," she told MTV UK during a promotional junket for the film. "I think that there might be some other explanation or something going on. I’m not quite sure what, but I can’t believe that he’s really going to quit forever to become a rapper. It seems odd."

Right? More than odd, recently, as Joaquin had a show in Miami where he got into a fight with a heckler. He also made a furry, slurry, odd appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman that has further convinced the public that it’s all just an act. An act Gwyneth herself might get into.

"I’d like to take this opportunity to announce that I’m quitting acting to become a rapper," joked Gwyneth. "So, I’m going to write ‘good-bye’ across my knuckles and everything. Do you have a pen?"

Gwyneth’s Acting Renaissance

May 20th, 2008

Returning to films after a two-year hiatus has given Gwyneth Paltrow a “lifeline,” the actress says.

After the 2006 birth of her second child Moses, the Oscar winner turned her attentions to motherhood and was acutely aware that the time away from the screen to care for Moses and Apple, 4, could possibly erase her from Hollywood memory.

"I really did not know if there would be a place for me any more," the actress says. "Hollywood is pretty cutthroat, and everybody’s got a short memory and there’s always somebody younger or hotter or prettier, or whatever."

Feeling like she “had something to say again,” Gwyneth dove into work and now has the blockbuster Iron Man to her name and the upcoming Two Lovers, co-starring Joaquin Phoenix, premiering at the Cannes Film Festival.

"It gave to me kind of a lifeline," she says. "I feel like I was really able to be very free and raw and true."

Because she was away from the glitz, glamour and media frenzy that is Hollywood for so long, the 35-year-old developed a newfound appreciation for her craft. It was Two Lovers, the romantic drama in which Gwyneth plays a troubled woman who falls for Joaquin’s complicated character, that made her come to this realization.

"Going from being a mother at home for a long time, which is the greatest joy of my life, to feel like an artist again… that was a gift."

Gwyneth Named Children’s Ambassador

March 24th, 2008

Gwyneth Paltrow, who recently announced she’s "putting movies on the backburner" to spend more time at home with her family, is putting her free time to good use.

The Shakespeare in Love star has been named ambassador for the Save The Children charity. Over the next three years, she will play an active role in helping to reduce the number of kids dying from preventable diseases around the world.

The notoriously private Gwyneth, who has two children, Apple, 3, and Moses, 1 1/2, with husband Chris Martin, has spoken publically about wanting to put her film career on hold in order to focus more on her family in the future.

Before she can do that, however, the actress will embark on a large-scale promotional tour for Iron Man, the highly anticipated film based on the Marvel Comics character. Paltrow also stars in Two Lovers with Joaquin Phoenix, also set for release later this year.

Hey Joaquin, Your Fly’s Down!

November 27th, 2007

Before filming a Bar Mitzvah scene on the Springfield, N.J., set of Two Lovers, extras were briefed not to bother the film’s touchy star, Joaquin Phoenix, who is notorious for getting very “into” his characters while shooting. But one extra just couldn’t keep his lips zipped.

“They weren’t supposed to bother Joaquin,” one on-set spy reveals to OK!, “but someone went up to him and told him his fly was down.”

Though it likely won’t make it into the final cut of the film Joaquin quickly zipped up on camera and continued the scene. The witness adds, “The mood in the room drastically lightened and he loosened up.”

Two Lovers, also starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Isabella Rossellini, is currently filming in and around New York City and is set for release next year.

Hey Gwyneth, Where’s Chris?

November 21st, 2007 / Author: cwillett

It was like a modern-day fairy tale: The sweet-faced British boy who shot to fame with his college rock band and won the heart of icy-blonde Hollywood royalty. But superstardom comes with a price, and now the many nights that Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay front man Chris Martin have spent away from each other have left friends fearing they could be fighting for their marriage.

“They haven’t seemed close for over a year,” a source tells OK!. “It’s like she never talks about him anymore.” Adds another source: “They have spent so much time apart because of their work.”

So why all the time apart? “Chris and the band have been in the studio nonstop, writing and recording their new album, and it hasn’t left room for much else,” a record label insider tells OK!. “There is huge pressure to deliver a phenomenal album, not least because Coldplay are total perfectionists.”

Meanwhile, Gwyneth’s publicist has insisted in the past that there’s no trouble in paradise, saying, “Gwyneth and Chris, as a policy, do not talk about each other in the media, nor do they attend public functions together.”

But it seems Chris is already coming around to putting his family first: Two weeks ago, he flew to the U.S. to visit Gwyneth on the set of her upcoming film Two Lovers. “He stayed in her trailer for half the day,” a set insider tells OK!. “He was just there for her.”
