Vanity Fair released their annual International Best-Dressed List yesterday and, to the surprise of many, Brad Pitt was included but not his paramour Angelina Jolie.

However, looking at the names that make up the rest of the list, should the Oscar-winner be at all perturbed by being overlooked? Read more »

Cate Blanchett: Marriage is a Risk

December 29th, 2008

Marriage and relationships can be hard enough, but at least in real life, unlike Cate Blanchett’s character in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, you usually age along with your loved one, instead of in the opposite direction.

“If you age with somebody, you go through so many roles—you’re lovers, friends, enemies, colleagues, strangers; you’re brother and sister,” she reveals to Vanity Fair of her 11-year marriage with playwright Andrew Upton. “That’s what intimacy is, if you’re with your soulmate. Marriage is a risk; I think it’s a great and glorious risk, as long as you embark on the adventure in the same spirit.”

Cate digs deep into her feelings on the film in the interview, which she thinks deals with death in a positive manner.

“We’ve enshrined the purity, sanctity, value, and importance of bringing children into the world, yet we don’t discuss death. There used to be an enshrined period where mourning was a necessary part of going through the process of grieving; death wasn’t considered morbid or antisocial," she says. "But that’s totally gone. Now we’re all terrified of aging, terrified of death. This film deals with death as a release. I hope it’s a moment of catharsis.”

The 39-year-old mother of three, who lost her father when he was only 40, admits that she was relieved when her own husband passed that age, and says “the presence of death can coexist in life. I just don’t take things for granted. I know that time is very short.”

“When my husband turned 40, I was obsessed,” she adds. “Has he had his medical checkup? He needed to go to the doctor; he needed to go to the dentist. Any little cough, I was really on him. Then he turned 40, and I thought, Maybe that’s why I’ve been so obsessed with his health!”

As for her own inevitable aging, the stunning actress says she won’t be going under the knife any time soon.

"But I’m not a spokesperson against the world of injectables. If you grow up in an environment where your mother gets you a boob job when you turn 18, what hope is there? But I didn’t grow up in that world. The reason I went to train as an actor was that I was interested in it for the long haul. You can become very self-obsessed, but you’ve got to keep looking outward.”

The Story of Tina Fey’s Scar

December 1st, 2008

Although fans of 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live might never have noticed she has it, Tina Fey’s facial scar is something that’s been a part of her since she was 5 – something she doesn’t usually talk about.

The reason? How she got it isn’t a funny story, as her husband Jeff Richmond reveals in an interview with Vanity Fair: A stranger slashed Tina’s face when she was 5 years old and standing in her front yard.

"That scar was fascinating to me. This is somebody who, no matter what it was, has gone through something," . And I think it really informs the way she thinks about her life."

For Tina, however, speaking about the incident never really felt right.

"It’s impossible to talk about it without somehow seemingly exploiting it and glorifying it," she tells the magazine. "It’s really almost like I’m able to forget about it, until I was on-camera, and it became a thing of `Oh, I guess we should use this side’ or whatever. Everybody’s got a better side."

In the December issue of Vanity Fair, Kristen Stewart ( who plays Bella Swan) opens up about her hottie leading man Robert Pattinson, revealing she knew immediately that he was the one to play the blood-sucking Edward Cullen.

"Well, I basically cast him," she says. "We did one day of auditions and a bunch of guys came in. Catherine Hardwicke, the director, afterwards was like, ‘What do you think? This is such a hard choice.’ I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?! It’s such an obvious choice!’ It couldn’t have been better. It was sort of perfect."

Stewart says she fit the role of sweet, unassuming Bella because she looks "like everyone. I’m a really typical girl."

Twilight, based on the best-selling book by Stephenie Meyer, chronicles the blossoming love between the mortal teen, Bella Swan, and the gorgeous vampire, Edward Cullen.

Hacker Busted for Miley Pics

October 22nd, 2008

Despite her attempts to keep her image shiny and clean, Miley Cyrus has already been hit by a few racy scandals, including sexy pics of the Hannah Montana star leaked on the Internet earlier this year.

Fans were shocked by the photos, which included Miley blowing kisses at the camera while baring her midriff. For now though, the teen sensation can rest easy – the hacker who stole the photos from her email account has been caught.

Josh Holly, 19, told Wired.com that the FBI raided his home in Murfreesboro, Tenn. and took three computers and a cell phone.

"I was just kind of shaking. I was thrown way off guard," he tells Wired.com. "I guess somebody ended up ratting me out."

At the time, Miley apologized to her fans, saying the pictures were "silly, inappropriate shots." She was also photographed shirtless for the cover of Vanity Fair by Annie Leibowitz, causing a fresh storm of controversy.

Maybe it’s time to take a break from photography, Miley?

Miley Wanted to Reach “Older Audience” With Vanity Fair Shoot

July 22nd, 2008

Those suggestive Vanity Fair photos were a "mistake," Miley Cyrus says, revealing that she agreed to the risqué shots in an attempt to reach out to an "older audience."

"I think I was just in a stage where I was just trying to get things done, and maybe look for an older audience," the singer tells Good Morning America. "I was working with a big magazine just trying to go with what they were saying."

The 15-year-old has said the nearly nude shoot "still hurts," and reiterated that sentiment on the morning talk show, saying she had a "hard time" weathering the slew of criticism that followed.

But now, she "knows what it’s like to have people talk about you like you’re kind of iron."

"People need to remember that I am young and that I do have feelings, and I’ll do the same thing for them," Miley, whose album Breakout is out today, says. "Anyone who was 15 years old can’t say they haven’t made a mistake. So I think it’s just normal."

Miley Cyrus Wants to Make “Cleaner” SATC Film

July 16th, 2008

There will be a Sex and the City sequel, but how about a prequel? One that stars Miley Cyrus?

The 15-year-old, who is a fan of TBS’ sanitized take of the raunchy HBO comedy, wants to do a "younger, cleaner version of Sex and the City," she tells TV Guide.

No word on what that would entail, but "Sex" would need to be removed from the title as it would be a misnomer and contradictory to Miley’s beliefs. The tween queen wears a purity ring as a sign of her commitment to abstinence.

"I like to think of myself as the girl that no one can get, that no one can keep in their hand," she says. “Even at my age, a lot of girls are starting to fall and I think if [abstaining] is a commitment girls make, that’s great.”

That’s just one aspect of her that Miley hopes will make her a role model for young girls, especially after the whole Vanity Fair photo scandal. While she has said the controversy "still hurts," the singer, who’s new album Breakout hits stores Tuesday, is doing her best to ignore the whole situation.

“I don’t dwell on the negativity,” she says. “I want to be a positive role model, so we just try to keep [that stuff] as much not talked about as possible.”

Miley: Vanity Fair Scandal “Still Hurts”

June 27th, 2008

Although "embarrassed" by her near-nude Vanity Fair photo "mistake," Miley Cyrus believes the incident made her "even more relatable" to the public and doesn’t think it will affect her career.

"I was embarrassed but also it’s like, every career thing that I do can’t be perfect, and sometimes my decisions are wrong," she tells Billboard. "I think that just makes me even more relatable."

She adds, "I don’t think people will look at me any differently because they’re like, ‘You know what, I’m going to do stupid stuff too, and I’m going to make mistakes, and that’s fine.’"

And while she’s definitely trying to move on, the 15-year-old admits "it still hurts" when she thinks about those bare-back shots.

"But you know what, it doesn’t mean that you can’t move on," Miley says.

The Hannah Montana star, whose newest album, Breakout, will hit stores July 22, immediately apologized for the photos after they surfaced in April.

"I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ‘artistic’ and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed," she said. "I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about.”

Video: Billy Ray Talks About Vanity Fair Scandal

June 17th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Even though Billy Ray Cyrus had already opened up to OK! about the scandal surrounding the Vanity Fair cover featuring his 15-year-old daughter, pop superstar Miley Cyrus, in nothing but a sheet, the country singer went on TV for the first time on Tuesday morning to give his side of the story.

(Scroll down for video)

“I didn’t know they were gonna strip her down and wrap her in a blanket,” Cyrus said on the Today show Tuesday morning, claiming that he had been at the shoot earlier in the day, but had to leave after posing for a few shots for celeb photog Annie Leibovitz.

“I had just finished a movie down in Florida. I flew in because Annie had specifically asked that I come in and do a shot with Miley," he continued. "I had worked with her before. She’s a great lady. She’s a good person, a great photographer. I was scheduled to be in Washington state the next day to play for the troops returning from Iraq and then the next day in Anchorage, Alaska.”
