Russell Brand Promises “Festival of Love & Discreet Orgasms” at VMAs
July 14th, 2009 / Author: Chris MorranCan Britney Finally Get a “Piece” of the Moon Man?
July 25th, 2008
MTV viewers want another "piece" of Britney Spears.
The pop star, who memorably put on one of the most perplexing and vilified performances in recent award show history on last year’s Video Music Awards, has been shortlisted by MTV voters as one of the nominees at this year’s show.
Brit’s video for "Piece of Me" is up for Best Female Video, selected via online voting at vma.mtv.com. Her competition, as well as contenders for Best Male Video, will be unveiled on Pete Wentz’s FN’MTV Friday night at 8 p.m.
The nomination gives the 26-year-old 15 total in her career; however, Britney has yet to score a Moon Man at the award show.
Maybe that will all change this year, and maybe she will even stop by to pick up the statuette — and more.
Last month, MTV President Van Toffler teased that he would consider inviting Britney back to perform on the VMAs.
"Everyone deserves a second or third chance, right?" he asked.
The 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, hosted by British comedian Russell Brand, will air live Sept. 7, 2008.
Justin Postpones Two Tour Dates
September 11th, 2007
If you want to catch Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveShow this week, you’re going to have to turn on HBO.
The singer postponed dates in Sacramento and San Jose, Calif., originally scheduled for Monday and Wednesday, respectively, after straining his vocal cords from over-performing, his record company Jive Records said in a statement. Under doctor’s orders, Justin must rest his voice for a week.
Justin has been touring worldwide since January and performed at Sunday night’s Video Music Awards, collaborating with 50 Cent and closing the show with Nelly Furtado and Timbaland.
The two shows have been rescheduled for Sept. 23 (San Jose) and Sept. 25 (Sacramento).
The 26-year-old, who picked up two trophies at the VMAs, wraps the North American leg of the tour this month and will head Down Under in late October to finish up his globetrotting year.
J.C. Chasez Evades the Britney Question
September 10th, 2007
It’s okay, J.C., you can say it.
J.C. Chasez caught last night’s MTV Video Music Awards and was left impressed by many and unimpressed by, well, you can probably guess who.
But nice guy that he is, the former Mouseketeer dodged the question when OK! asked him at Jill Stuart’s fashion show who he thought was the worst performer at last night’s VMAs. "Uh…yeah,” he paused. “I don’t even know how to approach that question!”
The singer wasn’t shy about his favorites though. Linkin Park gets thumbs-ups for their rockin’ performance, as does ex bandmate Justin Timberlake, who took home two Moon Men last night.
“Linkin Park – in my opinion, I just love the feel of their performance,” J.C. says. “It wasn’t overly close up on their face, it was shadows and felt like a light show. I also thought Timbaland and Justin did great.”
But nothing compares to Sarah Silverman and her unapologetic audacity. The comedienne took to the stage following Britney Spears’ universally reviled performance and blasted the troubled pop star, which was perfectly fine with J.C. because “she said what everybody was thinking at the time.”
“I thought she was amazing,” he says. “She was like this is where it is at right now, let’s not kid ourselves folks. I lost my mind, I loved it. I thought she was a show stopper.”

Justin Predicted to Win Big at VMAs
September 7th, 2007 / Author: cwillett
The Video Music Awards are two days away and what better way to prepare for the Sin City event than to make predictions? OK! has not only put our heads together to prophesize the future, but we have corralled The Insider’s Victoria Recaño, as well, to get her input on the major categories. And it seems like we think alike for the most part. Here are our predictions:
Video of the Year Nominees
-
Beyonce "Irreplaceable"
-
Justice "D.A.N.C.E."
-
Rihanna feat. Jay-Z "Umbrella"
-
Justin Timberlake "What Goes Around… Comes Around"
-
Kanye West "Stronger"
-
Amy Winehouse "Rehab"
OK! says: This is a tough one between the undisputed stars of the summer, Justin and Rihanna. But we’re giving the slight edge to JT for his epic mini-movie (oxymoron?) featuring the one and only Scarlett Johansson.
Victoria says: "Rihanna or Justin Timberlake… I think he’s got a better chance."
Male Artist of the Year Nominees
-
Akon
-
Robin Thicke
-
T.I.
-
Justin Timberlake
-
Kanye West
OK! says: Justin. Need we explain?
Victoria says: Keep an eye out for an upset. “I’d like to see Robin Thicke. I think he’s the wild card.”
Female Artist of the Year Nominees
-
Beyonce
-
Fergie
-
Nelly Furtado
-
Rihanna
-
Amy Winehouse
OK! says: It’s another close one, this time between Rihanna and the beleaguered Amy Winehouse, but Rihanna will take it. Amy can get her Moon Man in Best New Artist.
Victoria says: "Rihanna. Just think it’s her year."
Best Group Nominees
-
Fall Out Boy
-
Gym Class Heroes
-
Linkin Park
-
Maroon 5
-
White Stripes
OK! says: Overwhelming favorite Fall Out Boy will win their third Moon Man in as many years. They’ve got the fans and Ashlee Simpson on their side.
Victoria says: "Maroon 5. They’ve got so many different types of sounds, you don’t realize when you hear a song, they are the ones singing it."
Best New Artist Nominees
-
Lily Allen
-
Gym Class Heroes
-
Peter Bjorn and John
-
Carrie Underwood
-
Amy Winehouse
OK! says: Amy, no doubt. No one else has equaled the amount of buzz and attention she’s received this year. Now the question is, "Will she show up?"
Victoria says: It’s Amy all the way! "To be totally blunt with you, everywhere I go, everyone’s talking about Amy Winehouse. I did an interview on a radio station, and they interviewed her, and they were staying she’s the most interesting, off-the-wall character. And she’s incredibly talented."
Other predictions:
-
Most Earth-shattering Collaboration: Justin Timberlake feat. Timbaland "SexyBack"
-
Quadruple Threat of the Year: Justin Timberlake
-
Monster Single of the Year: Rihanna feat. Jay-Z "Umbrella"
-
Best Director: Justin Timberlake "What Goes Around… Comes Around" (Dir. Samuel Bayer)
-
Best Editing in a Video: Beyonce and Shakira "Beautiful Liar" (Ed. Jarrett Figl)
-
Best Choreography in a Video: Beyonce and Shakira "Beautiful Liar" (Chor. Frank Gatson)
What else to expect from the ceremony?
- Of course, the elephant in the room — Britney Spears‘ comeback performance. Whether she brings the house down or lip-synchs her booty off, you know what everyone will be talking about it the next day.
- Speaking of Britney — will she and Justin cross paths?
- The crazy setup. The show is moving to Las Vegas for the first time and will be broadcast from a handful of different venues in the Palms Casino Resort. Let’s see how the director and camera crew handle this production.
- Christina Aguilera or, more specifically, her stomach. The pop tart has still yet to speak out about her pregnancy, but boobs and bump say a lot.
- The surprises! Duh. Whether it’s Sting joining
DiddyPuff Daddy on stage 10 years ago to perform “I’ll Be Missing You” or that infamous 2003 lip-lock between Madonna, Britney and Christina, there are just some things we can’t prepare for.
The Video Music Awards airs live on MTV at 9 p.m. on Sunday. Make sure to check out okmagazine.com for live news and updates!
This Day in Hollywood History
September 7th, 2007 / Author: OK! Staff
Sept. 7, 2000
It was the day we were all waiting for, but couldn’t believe when it finally arrived. Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake went public with their long-hibernating relationship seven years ago today and, admit it — you were floored when you saw them sitting side by side in Radio Music City Hall.
After all, where’s a better locale to confirm the world’s biggest news and break millions of girls’ hearts than the ultimate platform for all things pop culture — the Video Music Awards? Against the wishes of her handlers to park herself aisles away from her beau, Brit made a big-girl decision and opted to come clean about the guy she’s been secretly dating the past two years. "I was like, ‘I want to sit by him," she would say afterwards. "He’s fun to be around. I love his company. With him and my brother [Bryan] sitting by me, it made me feel so much more at ease and at peace." Well, honesty is the best policy.
The iconic couple will stay tied to the hip for another year and a half, gushing about each other every chance they got, but they abruptly zipped their traps after their 2002 split… until "Cry Me a River" came out. Make sure to take a look back at pop’s prince and princess’ brief but amazing time together here.

Exclusive Pic: Justin & Timbaland’s Surprise Performace!
September 2nd, 2007
For most performers, the last thing they want to do after a concert is to perform again. But not Justin Timberlake, who, fresh from his blistering stage show at Vegas’ Mandalay Bay on Saturday night, headed over to Jet Nightclub at The Mirage for an after-party that rivaled any of his scheduled tour stops.
Soon after JT strode into the club around 1 a.m., the seven-time VMA nominee, along with superstar performer/producer Timbaland, who has been put in charge of the music for next week’s VMAs, gave club-goers a once-in-a-lifetime experience when they launched into their impromptu concert. The hour-long set of the two music icons’ hottest hits had the entire club pulsating into the early morning, when JT and his family and friends made their exit slightly after 4:30 a.m.
Fans, Critics React to Britney’s New Single
August 31st, 2007
So… Did she do it again?
Britney Spears‘ new single "Gimme More" from her much-anticipated fifth studio album hit airwaves Thursday night and is fast climbing the charts. Another song, "Cold as Fire," has also leaked, and fans and critics alike are aren’t shy with their opinions.
"I feel sorry for the state of the music industry if this is what’s supposed to be good right now," writes one listener. "Groundbreaking my ass! We are talking about a major disaster here. This song is not catchy at all," writes another. But the criticisms are few and far between.
On the other side of the spectrum, it seems like people really do want more. Called "a masterpiece" by one person and made into a ringtone by another, "Gimme More" has impressed even the die-hard Britney fans who were expecting much worse. "The bitch has got like nine lives," one fan writes.
One music industry insider feels the same way, prefacing that while the tunes are not her best, they’re surely not her worst either. "It’s a step in hopefully the right direction," he tells OK! "With a little more push, and a little bit more production work, we could have her back."
But for the embattled pop star’s comeback to be in full-swing, Britney’s got to reprioritize because "if she focuses on what made her a celebrity in the first place and gets a good team of producers and managers behind her, I think think she has some good albums left in her."
Britney’s as-yet-untitled new album is slated for a Nov. 13. Also scheduled is an appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 9, where it is believed she would perform the techno diddy for the first time. But the million-dollar question is, will she show up? "I want to say she’ll perform because I’m really curious as to what she’ll do," the insider says. "But taking a look at her past behavior, I’m not getting my hopes up."
