Watch Out For… Michaela Conlin

November 28th, 2007

Every little girl dreams of being a princess, and while Michaela Conlin isn’t there yet, she was at least able to be a friend to a princess in Enchanted. And though she only appears briefly on screen, Michaela is definitely living her fairytale dream.

First, she got to work on the film with Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey and currently has a recurring role on the hit FOX show Bones with David Boreanaz. As for working with McDreamy, she tells OK!, “He’s such a wonderful actor, so for me, that’s what makes him sexy!” But don’t expect her to divulge whom she thinks is sexier laughing, “I can’t answer that!”

Michaela did however share that she prefers drama to romantic comedy. “Romantic comedies tend to make me a bit depressed,” she explains. “They almost always have a perfect ending with everything tied up perfectly.”

The Allentown, PA native also tells OK! that she’s living her life-long dream, saying, “It’s the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do.” With supportive parents and older sister she says she doesn’t know where she would be without them.

For now, Michaela is working on a new project that she is developing into a short film. With such a busy schedule, it’s hard for the 29-year-old to find time for herself. When she isn’t working she says visiting her family, working in the garden and traveling occupy her time. “I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to some great cities,” she mentions. “I love to buy a guide book and get on a plane.”

Watch Out For… Oscar Isaac

November 15th, 2007 / Author: OK! Staff

It’s been two years in the making, but Oscar Isaac is finally seeing his HBO movie PU-239 come to fruition on Nov. 17.

“I play Shiv, a man that’s in way over his head with this new criminal life in the wild west of post-Soviet Union,” Oscar explains to OK! about his role in the film. As for if he was a troublemaker growing up, the 27-year-old says, “I was expelled from a private school and constantly suspended from high school for stupid stuff.”

Do not be fooled by his class-clown antics, Oscar attended the renowned Juilliard School of Music. But even though he learned a ton from his four years there, he says, “I sometimes feel I learned just as much from watching Al Pacino in Dog Day Afternoon.” As for another of his idols, “I also adore Dustin Hoffman in Midnight Cowboy and in pretty much anything else.”

And it’s only a matter of time until aspiring young actors look up to this Florida native, who tells OK! he always knew he was destined for show business. “I grabbed my dad’s old VHS camera and started making my own mini epics in my backyard,” Oscar recalls.

And now, in addition to PU-239, which was executive-produced by George Clooney, Oscar also just finished Body of Lies with Leonardo DiCaprio, who he says is “an incredibly friendly, humble and down-to-earth guy… Our first day out, we were joking around and improvising and just having a good time.”

For this self-professed “homebody,” Oscar better soak up his Ping-Pong and family now because OK! can guarantee he’ll be inundated with scripts any second now!

Watch Out For… Josh Turner

November 1st, 2007

Josh Turner could not have picked a better title for his latest album, the aptly titled Everything Is Fine. Just shy of his 30th birthday, Josh is already one of the youngest inductees to the legendary Grand Ole Opry, he’s got a lovely wife Jennifer whom he met while at Belmont University and an adorable 1-year-old son — and he’s about to embark on a 95-date tour.

Ever the pro, Josh doesn’t get discouraged by this busy schedule. “It’s a great feeling to wake up in the morning and to know that I do this for a living,” he explains to OK!. The best part of the singer’s job? “Being able to see this great country we live in, being able to play my music for a lot of people, night after night, hearing their reaction and hearing them sing back to me.”

While Josh, who penned seven of Everything Is Fine’s 12 tracks, can’t single out one tune as his favorite, he tells OK! that “Soul Mate” — co-written by John Anderson — is particularly meaningful. “It’s probably the best love song I have written thus far,” admits Josh. “It’s about our wives.”

And that theme of a loving and supportive family has been with the singer since a young age. “My parents were the ones who pushed me to go to certain events or certain functions that I didn’t want to do,” Josh explains. “They helped motivate me.”

As for his own son, Hampton Otis, the one-year-old is already showing his musical inclinations. “He recognizes my voice and loves music,” Josh says. “My wife and I both sing to him a lot and he is a music lover and it soothes him.”

At the end of the day, Josh loves spending time at home just south of Nashville with his family and their bloodhound, Moses. But for the time being, this family will have to spend that time on the tour bus.

Watch out for… Brooke Nevin

October 24th, 2007

Ever since actress Brooke Nevin was a little girl in Toronto, she was enamored with the idea of being onscreen, whether it was TV or movies. After years of begging her mother, Brooke’s persistence paid off when she scored a small part in a commercial for Honeycomb cereal.

“It didn’t matter that no one could actually see my face,” Brooke jokes to OK!. “Just that the commercial was going to be on TV and that I could say that somewhere in the indiscernible background, I was in it!”

Nowadays, you don’t have to squint to see this Toronto Blue Jay fan in her role as Michelle Fields in The Comebacks alongside Matthew Lawrence and David Koechner. Coincidentally, this marks Brooke’s second movie featuring the word “comeback” in the title! “It just keeps coming back,” the recent L.A. resident, who also starred in Comeback Season, giggles. Speaking of comebacks, the star whom Brooke would love to see make a career turnaround is George Michael. “I want to see him have another chart-topping hit,” she tells OK!.

With two more feature films set to be released and a guest role on Grey’s Anatomy, Brooke has certainly been keeping busy. “I play a Pom Squad Captain on Grey’s who is forced to ponder her future after a serious injury,” she reveals, but when asked for further details about the mystery ailment, she replies coyly, “You’ll have to watch the show!” As for hopes of being a regular on that hit series, she replies without any hesitation, “Hands down, yes!”

Well, perhaps that will be Brooke’s wish as she blows out the candles on her 25th birthday cake on Dec. 22. And while many late-December kids would think being born so close to Christmas is a negative, Brooke has no complaints. “It’s become a tradition that for every two Christmas carols sung, the family has to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ once,” she explains to OK!. “And my family is quite a caroling bunch!”

So, how will Brooke celebrate her first quarter century? “By renting a car from Alamo without paying the underage fee!”

The Comebacks is in theaters now.

Watch Out For… Camille Guaty

October 10th, 2007

Any girl, single or married, would dream of spending a day on the set of either Prison Break, with the likes of Wentworth Miller and Amaury Nolasco, or Las Vegas, with Josh Duhamel and James Lesure. For Camille Guaty, that is just a regular day at the office! She may have left the scruff and roughness of Prison Break for the clean-cut boys of Las Vegas, but Camille likes her man somewhere in the middle. “I like a guy who takes care of himself, but doesn’t take longer to get ready than I do,” this single gal tells OK!

As for her newfound home in Sin City as Piper, a possible love interest for James Lesure’s character, she says the cast could not have been more welcoming though they may need to get her name right. “No one calls me by my name by the way,” she laughs. “Everyone calls me Piper, but it’s Camille, thanks!” They certainly remembered when it came time to pranking her by decorating her actor’s chair with all her shortcomings — junk food, gems, magazines.

Even though this Jersey girl was super sick on her first day, Camille is a pro in every sense. Having gotten her start on PopStars on the WB and most recently being in the Nine and Prison Break, she proves she is a talent that can get the job done, sniffles or not. “My mom said to not go and call in sick,” Camille says. “I was like, ‘Call in sick, wow Mom, that would be a genius idea,’ let me just hold down production!’ ”

She did listen to mom and dad about going to college though. “My parents always thought acting was a hobby of mine, and they didn’t want me to major in it,” this Boston University grad explains. “When I graduated, I said, ‘Here is the diploma for you guys, and I’m off to do my dream.’”

Her dream is now her reality and she is winning big in Las Vegas and when she gets time off she would love to backpack through Europe or take a nice little trip to Tahiti! That Camille, is well deserved!

Watch Out For… Brittany Robertson

October 2nd, 2007

At 17, actress Brittany Robertson is already on top of her game and can be seen in Dan in Real Life with Steve Carell, Juliette Binoche and Dane Cook. “Just to have scenes with them and watch them and observe them as a young actress…" the blonde-haired, blue-eyed beauty tells OK!, "It’s really inspiring.”

And one cast-mate in particular wowed her from the very beginning. “Dianne Wiest is the most inspiring woman,” Brittany says. “She is one of the most wonderful actors I have ever met.”

Aside from a handful of independent films and roles on TV, Dan in Real Life marks Britanny’s first shot at true stardom — and she tells OK! she’s been preparing her whole life for this moment. “When I was younger, I loved entertaining,” the South Carolina native explains. “I would always entertain my parents and put on shows for everyone.” And what she love most about acting is that it allows her to experience “certain aspects of life that you wouldn’t get to or enjoy doing.”

Acting may be her destiny, but this recent high school graduate plans to go to college and major in something outside of the entertainment industry. For now, she’s staying in Hollywood but in two years, she will follow in the footsteps of her “dream leading lady” Natalie Portman and head to Harvard University. “She did a great job of becoming a child star and growing up to be a wonderful adult actor,” Brittany gushes. “You don’t see her in the media in a negative light and she has an amazing education. She has kind of the ideal career.”

Unlike the infamous pop star with a similar first name, this Brittany doesn’t get caught up in the Hollywood scene. “I don’t like going to parties with people I don’t really know or aren’t really friends with,” the teen mentions. “I would rather stay at home with close friends and kickback around my neck of the woods.”

Watch Out For… Sean Kingston

September 19th, 2007

When most 17-year-olds are not sure what they want to do with their lives, Sean Kingston proves to be the exception.

“I knew I wanted to do music all my life,” Sean, whose grandfather is legendary producer Jack Ruby, tells OK! “I had my first recording at 11.”

Born in Miami, Sean grew up in Jamaica. “The best part of being in Jamaica is the lifestyle and the culture,” he explains. “They are not selfish or jealous or haters. They are just happy for whatever.”

His first single, “Beautiful Girl,” may have been a very last-minute addition to the album, but it proves it was worth the extra time in the studio. It was number one on the charts for four straight weeks.

“We were going to go with ‘Take You There,’ but in the middle of that, I just cooked up ‘Beautiful Girls’ and ‘Me Love,’ " the fun-loving teen mentions. “JR [Rotem] had no choice and said that hook is crazy, that is a hit right there.”

Sean, who writes 100% of his lyrics, and bases most songs on his personal experience, has definitely had hardships to overcome. His mother and sister were sent to prison when he was 15 and he’s been homeless, but he always managed to hold his head high. “All that stuff is there, but now I am here for a reason,” Sean, who penned “Dry Your Eyes” for his mom, admits. “God blessed me, and I keep myself surrounded by grounded people.”

Life is certainly good for Sean, whose biggest splurge thus far is his $35,000 Crayola box necklace, that is “iced out with different color diamonds for the crayons,” and only getting better. He just took home a Teen Choice Award surfboard for Choice R&B song, he is opening for Beyonce on a few shows, Fergie loved his remix for “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and his latest single, "Me Love," is a guaranteed hit.

But when asked if all this success has been a whirlwind, he grins, “Yea, not really, no!” He will soon be up there with his idols, Lauryn Hill, Jay Z, Nas and Akon, though Sean will not be using profanity in his lyrics.

Watch Out For… Eren Cannata

September 4th, 2007

The apple definitely didn’t fall far from the tree for Eren Cannata, who grew up on tour watching his saxophone-playing father perform with the Beach Boys and Billy Joel. “It was so much fun doing that; that it inspired me,” Eren tells OK!.

According to his dad Richie, Eren’s first recorded song was "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" at the age of two in his father’s recording studio, Cove City Studios where the likes of Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Lopez and even Ray Charles have made their hits. It was only a matter of time for Eren to have a record, Blame it on the City. What does he blame on the city that he now calls home, “Everything, but my craziness mostly.” One thing is certain; he is crazy about music. “My life is music,” Eren, who was once on the soap As the World Turns explains. “I’m living and breathing it.”

Eren has hung out with another great musician — John Mayer but don’t expect him to make the faces. “I’ve been told I have restless leg syndrome when I sing,” he says. “I guess I do make faces at my band to try to make them laugh.” He does share with John the talent and craft. “It’s a natural out for me to vent and do what I like to do,” Eren whose songs are based on his life says. “I’ve broken hearts and my heart has been broken.” Seeing him live demonstrates that at 22, Eren has the expertise of the greats, but a modest Eren says, “I don’t dare put myself on that same list.”

Watch Out For: Penn Badgley

August 29th, 2007

With a name like Penn Badgley, the star of the upcoming CW series, Gossip Girls will leave a lasting impression. So where does the unique first name come from? "My father played a lot of tennis and was gripping a Penn-brand tennis ball for stress during my mom’s pregnancy," the Baltimore native confesses to OK!. "When they got the first sonogram, my mom casually mentioned that I was only the size of that tennis ball my dad was constantly gripping."

And though he’s only 20 years young, Penn has already been acting for almost eight years — most of it spent moving around the country. After first venturing south to Virginia and then cross-country to Seattle, Penn eventually made his way to L.A. "It was a fairly casual thing when we came down," the single star explains. "As I got more and more work, it seemed like something that could be steady, and that’s when I developed my love for it."

His love for acting has landed him in movies like John Tucker Must Die and The Bedford Diaries alongside Milo Ventimiglia. And even though both Penn and Milo are now considered grade-A sex symbols, the pair used to laugh at the fact that they "are both huge dorks."

Penn now calls New York City home while he films Gossip Girls, but don’t expect him to get caught up in the party scene. "Every now and then it’s fun to indulge and live the life for a couple days," he admits. "But ultimately, if you’re doing it all the time, it’s not really that fulfilling." Unlike many of his fellow young celebs, Penn would rather play music than stay out until sunrise. "Music is probably my number-one passion; it’s the one thing I would never want to compromise," says the actor, who has been an avid guitar player for years. "It’s just for me."

He may keep those lyrics and songs to himself for now, but one thing is sure, he can be seen every Wednesday starting Sept. 19 on the CW playing Dan Humphrey in Gossip Girls.
