Cover Story: Jessica’s Revenge Diet

February 11th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

These days, Jessica Simpson has got to be stressing out. First an unflattering picture of her onstage caused a whirlwind of buzz about her somewhat fuller figure, and then the country singer struggled during her 38-minute set opening for Rascal Flatts on Feb. 5, forgetting lyrics and appearing nervous.

But whatever happened to her that night, Jessica’s got a plan to bounce back, with the help of boyfriend Tony Romo. The NFL quarterback was on hand to support Jessica the following night in Champaign, Ill., — and she dedicated her song, “You’re My Sunday,” to her love.

“There’s somebody special here I love very much,” Jessica told the crowd. “I can just relax with him. He’s my Sunday; he’s my every day.”

There’s a reason she can relax with Tony, despite her insecurities. During the hubbub over Jessica’s figure, Tony has been unstintingly supportive of his diminutive sweetheart.

“She’s gone up a size in jeans, and Tony could care less,” a friend tells OK!. “He isn’t interested in some idiot Hollywood bimbo with an eating disorder."

After Jess makes it through the stress of the tour, which ends March 14, friends say the extra weight will disappear too.

"She eats her feelings — it’s hard having people criticizing your every move and ridiculing you on blogs,” one close friend tells OK!. "Once Jessica stops touring [next month], she’ll calm her nerves and the weight will hopefully fall off.”

In addition, Jess will need to cut back on her favorite finger foods like chips and guacamole and make a few substitutions, as well as falling back into a fitness routine.

"She’d much rather gossip with her girlfriends than hit the treadmill, so I know she needs to get a workout buddy to run with her," her friend reveals.

Now who might that be? Says the friend, “Tony would do it in a heartbeat!”

Ashlee Determined to Lose Baby Weight

January 29th, 2009 / Author: OK! Staff

Since giving birth to Bronx Mowgli last November, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz has been determined to get her pre-baby body back.

She recently kick-started her weight-loss program with Jackie Keller’s 30-day Body After Baby plan, which offers "mommy and me" workouts, such as playing peekaboo.

Ash also supplements the workouts with Nutrifit meals and snacks, delivered daily. The 24-year-old new mom is now half-way to her goal of shedding 30 pounds and has been eating healthy.

"She’s swapping french toast and sugary syrup for multi-grain bread and berries," a pal of the singer tells OK!. And when her hubby, Pete Wentz, 29, brings home pizza, she has a slice, but loads it up with veggies.

Of course, Ashlee recently rushed to the defense of her big sister Jessica Simpson, when she wrote on her blog that, "all women come in different shapes, sizes, and forms and just because you’re a celebrity, there shouldn’t be a different standard."

Lily Allen’s Hypnotic Figure

January 8th, 2009

Instead of becoming sleepy, very sleepy, hypnosis has reportedly made Lily Allen skinny, very skinny.

The Daily Mail claims that the "Smile" singer shed two dress sizes after sessions with a hypnotist who helped curb her cravings for booze and fatty food.

During sessions, I taught Lily to favour healthy, low-fat meals instead of junk food," Susan Hepburn, a London hypnotist, tells the British paper, adding that hypno-therapy is "very big in LA and New York and it’s becoming increasingly popular in London."

Part of the therapy, she says, is to let teh subject see that alcohol isn’t a confidence booster, "it’s just extra calories that sabotage your efforts to get a good body."

Wonder which will win out – hypnosis or a delicious pint? Only time will tell!

OK!: How does it feel to have lost 20 pounds?

I feel like a 12-year-old! I’m back to what I was born to be, at my best. I used to get out of bed in the morning and things were aching, and I just thought, this is what happens when you get into your 30s. But now I jump out of bed and have so much energy; I feel very alive. Even after a workout, I feel like if I rest a little bit I could go out dancing all night, so that’s exciting. I have no more aches and pains, and my allergies are gone, too.

OK!: What were you eating that made you gain weight?

A lot of salt and processed grains like bread. I was a sandwich person, and if I had rice, I would pack the salt on.

OK!: Why did you overeat?

All the restrictions and limitations I’d placed upon myself for many years were let loose. I think it was a rite of passage for me. At 21, I was touring with Jagged Little Pill, so I didn’t experience the footloose and fancy-free passage that most people do in their teens and early 20s. My whole life I’ve been overly responsible. So I was fantastically indulgent for a good nine months. I knew it would be a temporary thing, and it was fun. There was a sexiness to my curvier self that I loved.

OK!: Why did you want to find a new eating plan?

Longevity. I realized I want to live till I’m 120. There’s a lifestyle that I am how happily creating that can, as best as is possible, prevent most forms of cancer and other diseases.

OK!: How did you come to choose Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s program?

I went to my favorite bookstore, Banyen Books and Sound, in Vancouver. I saw this book, Eat to Live, and I thought, that’s exactly what I want to do. I wasn’t interested in some fad diet that was unsustainable, like “lose 10 pounds in two weeks.” I don’t believe in diets; I think they’re short-term and a bit of an emotional roller-coaster. So I opened it and flipped through and thought the weight loss is incidental. The primary focus is disease prevention.

OK!: What is your workout routine?

When I’m out on tour, my shows are so physical that that really takes care of it. When I’m not on tour, I do between a half hour to an hour of light weights, running, biking, swimming, probably five times a week. I also love to kickbox and dance.

OK!: What does your boyfriend (attorney Tom Ballanco) think of your weight loss?

He just cares about my well-being. He thought I was sexy at whatever weight that I’ve been. I’ve never felt loved in that way before.

OK!: Will your next big project be to plan a wedding?

I could see in the not too distant future being married with children, absolutely, but I’m in no crazy rush. I wildly respect him. How he views the world, the lens through which he looks at life is very similar to mine. To have that in common makes me sleep well at night.

Oprah: I Fell Off the Wagon

December 9th, 2008

While Oprah Winfrey may inspire others every day to change their lives, she admits she’s had a bit of trouble doing that in her own life, especially when it comes to her weight. The daytime diva confesses that she has "fallen off the wagon" of healthy living and now weighs in at 200 pounds.

"I’m mad at myself," she writes in the January issue of O, published by the Associated Press

”I’m embarrassed,” she writes. ”I can’t believe that after all these years, all the things I know how to do, I’m still talking about my weight. I look at my thinner self and think, `How did I let this happen again?’ "

Winfrey also says it’s not just about being thin, that now she wants to be fit and healthy. However fitting into a dress for President-elect Barack Obama’s inaugural ball next month is also on her mind.

”I had a dress on the vision board, but I’m not sure that’s gonna fit,” she confesses. ”So I have to work on something else.”

Oprah, who has worked hard to help others attain their hopes and dreams, seems to be taking her weight loss failure straight to the heart.

”I definitely wasn’t setting an example,” she writes. ”I was talking the talk, but I wasn’t walking the walk. And that was very disappointing to me.”

Carnie Wilson: I’m Pregnant!

November 5th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Carnie Wilson – who lost nearly 50 pounds this year with OK! exclusively following her struggle to get slim and healthy – is now announcing her happy baby news. The singer and her musician husband, Rob Bonfiglio, are pregnant with their second child.

"My due date is June,” Carnie, 40, proudly tells OK!. “We’re thrilled.” Here, the star reveals how she’ll stick to her diet and exercise routine while pregnant.

How did you find out you were expecting?

I was making dinner, and I took a home-pregnancy test. There was a second line, and I jumped and said, “Oh, my god, I’m pregnant!” Lola [my 3-year-old daughter] and I started screaming and jumping for joy. She was so excited!

How did you tell your husband?

I couldn’t get a hold of Rob because he was playing a jazz gig. I taped the pregnancy test to the front door and drew a picture of little stick figures of Daddy, Mommy, Lola and then a little tiny one. I jumped out of bed at midnight and went into the kitchen and I see him holding the stick. He took me in his arms and goes, “Here we go again, honey.” He was happy.

What are your hopes for the pregnancy?

I can’t stop thinking about twins! My sister had twins; my grandmother was a twin and my grandmother’s aunt had twins. I had my first ultrasound and we only saw one sac, but it’s not confirmed that it’s not two because one could be hiding in back of the other…. We’ll see!

How will your condition affect your workouts?

I’m still doing my inner-core strength training. I’m going to increase my walking — instead of three days a week, I’m going to go for five.

Did you expect to get pregnant so quickly after losing the weight?

I did, actually. We had sex before, during and after ovulation. I was really keeping track of it, and it worked. Also, my body is so healthy now. I think we might have conceived to “She’s Leaving Home” by The Beatles! You’ve said you’re hoping for a boy.

Any idea on names yet?

We saw our first ultrasound yesterday. Lola pointed to the screen and was laughing, “That’s my brother Jake!” She wants to name the baby Jake, but Rob said no. In an Italian family, it’s traditional for the son to be named after the father, at least the first-born male.

What does motherhood mean to you?

The most joy you ever can feel is the love for your child. Children teach you so much. Motherhood is challenging, but it’s so fun.

OK! Exclusive: Carnie Wilson: “I Lost 50 Pounds!”

October 24th, 2008

She did it! After starting a diet and exercise program in the spring, Carnie Wilson has taken off nearly 50 pounds, with OK! documenting every step of the way. When we first visited Carnie in March, she admitted that she had "hit rock bottom" with her weight and ballooned to 208 pounds.

After gastric bypass surgery in 1999, she went from 300 pounds to 146. Sadly, Carnie slipped back into bad habits through the years. But now, after following a sensible regimen, she’s at a healthy 160 and is determined to keep the weight off – even as she tries to have a second child with husband Rob Bonfiglio to join their daughter, Lola, 3.

OK!: Congratulations on reaching your goal. How does it feel?

It feels spectacular! I’m so proud. I was determined to get my body to a healthy weight to prepare for the rest of my life and also for a baby. When I put my mind to something, I can do it. Some days I’ll wake up and be like, "I’m not there yet" and there will be a little voice that says, "But you’ve come so far." If I get caught up in self-loathing, I stop it quickly and look on the bright side.

OK!: Do you feel super confident now?

I have a bounce in my walk. It’s not that I feel sexier; I just feel more proud. I think when you feel proud about something you do, you radiate that positive energy and that is sexy. That is confidence.

OK!: Do you have any cheat foods?

I bake cheesecake for other people and taste it and spit it out. Every six or seven weeks, I have a tiny bit of dark chocolate and I actually will say, "You can swallow this. You deserve to taste something that you love." My saviors are baby carrots, hummus, natural peanut butter, baked yams and almond butter sweetened with agave."

OK!: What’s going on in your career?

I have a book coming out next year and a clothing line for women of size – really fashionable and affordable. Wilson Phillips is touring; we’re trying to work on a reunion album for our 20-year reunion in 2010. I’m thrilled!
