Emma Roberts, Jake T. Austin Go To ‘Dogs’

January 21st, 2009

Emma Roberts stars in Hotel For Dogs, which is in theaters now.

She has a long-haired Chihuahua named Twiggy, and pampers her little princess.

“My dog has a dog bed in every room in the house,” she tells me. “I have little dog beds everywhere. She’s really cute. My sister goes and pushes her around wherever in her baby doll stroller. My sister’s 7, so she loves playing with the dog.”

Julia’s niece, 17, is the ideal big sis.

“We usually like to hang out together at home just because I’m always away working,” Emma says. “It’s nice to go see a movie together or cook together, watch TV, read together, hang out.”

Does her former Nickelodeon channel mate Jamie Lynn Spears ever stop over? “I haven’t talked to her in years, actually,” she says.

Emma’s costar, Jake T. Austin, has two dogs named Bogey and Beju.

How does he spoil them?

“My dad owns a restaurant, so we joke that my dogs eat like kings and queens,” the Wizards of Waverly Place star, 14, tells me. “He’ll take home spare filet mignon, and my dogs will eat that. They eat and live like kings. We have a huge property and a really nice house. I don’t think they realize how lucky they are.”

What is his Wizards costar Selena Gomez really like?

“She’s very nice, funny and comical. Sometimes we go to dinner, movies. I taught her how to surf. She learned fast. She’s a good surfer now. David Henrie is a little slow, though.”

Hotel For Dogs is in theaters now.

How The Stars Are Spending Christmas

December 24th, 2008

Just like families around the globe, the stars have holiday traditions and make every effort to be with their loved ones during this special time of year.

“We have Santa Claus, and Santa Claus, and gifts and more Santa Claus and open fires and a lot of food,” Kate Winslet says. “Nobody gets out of their pajamas for about a week.”

Nicole Kidman is celebrating Sunday Rose’s first Christmas. “We’re having our family come over,” Nicole, who is married to Keith Urban, says. “Lying low. Taking it easy. Lots of food and carols. He plays carols.”

Miley Cyrus hopes to be with boyfriend Justin Gaston. “I love to spend the holidays with all my friends, so that would be nice for us to all have a party,” she says. How will Justin make it special? “Say some prayers and hope she has a good time,” he tells me.

Lavishing six-year-old daughter Sy’rai with gifts is not on Brandy’s agenda. “She’s not going to be spoiled this Christmas because she already has gifts from last Christmas that she has not yet opened. We’re in a recession right now. She’s going to have to chill.”

Maria Menounos will dress up her dogs. “I always dress them up for the holidays,” she says. “They all have their Christmas costumes. I’ve omitted the antlers from my German Shepherd because he took pictures last year and he looked depressed, and my entire family hated me for it. They’re like ‘why did you emasculate him?’”

Ralph Macchio – celebrating on the East Coast — gets two days of Christmas. “We open gifts on Christmas morning, so it’s really old-school. Christmas Eve is at my in-laws, it’s the big Italian fish dinner, and Christmas Day is at my parents with 7,000 grandchildren running around.”

Yonkers Joe star Chazz Palminteri tells me, “Christmas is a holiday I like to have at home. I always have it in my house. I enjoy that. I like having all the family over, and have pasta. My mother-in-law cooks the turkey. I think it’s great. The kids all open up the presents. It’s a great time of the year.”

Lena Olin is trying something new. “We’re going to go to Switzerland – the whole family. We’ll go skiing and have hot chocolate. This is our first year we’re doing that. We always go to Vermont, but this year we want to start a European tradition too.”

Gabrielle Union and Diddy enjoy NYC this time of year. “I love going out to Rockefeller Center and watching people fall on the ice skating rink,” Gabrielle says. Diddy adds, “I keep it shopping at FAO Schwarz.”

Julianne Hough plans to meet up with her famous friends in Tennessee. “There’s a bunch of parties in Nashville, and songwriters will throw parties at their houses and stuff. That’s where I hung out with Taylor Swift and Kellie Pickler for the first time last year — at a Christmas party. We’ll probably all bump into each other at some point.”

WHERE IN THE WORLD ARE THE CELEBS THIS CHRISTMAS? Cynthia Nixon is off to California “to get out of the cold weather.” She’ll celebrate with “the usual” traditions. … Wizards of Waverly Place star Jake T. Austin will be in New York play football with his uncle at home. … Ashanti will “probably” see boyfriend Nelly for the holidays. “I’ll be on the beach somewhere,” she tells me. The guys of Lady Antebellum are returning to Georgia while their lead singer Hillary Scott is staying in Tennessee. … Ne-Yo is whooping it up with his sister, mom and grandma in Atlanta. “Last year I ended up having to do a show, and mom’s never going to let me forget that. Mom’s like ‘oh no, no, no,’” he says. “This year was extra important that I got home. It’s going to be our first time spending it in Atlanta, which is our new home.”

Selena Gomez: I Still Go Trick-or-Treating!

October 24th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

While rising Disney star Selena Gomez might do things other 16-year-olds don’t get to do – like get dressed up and walk the red carpet at star-studded events  – she’s just like any other tween when it comes to Halloween.

"Yes, absolutely!" Selena told OK! when asked if she still goes trick-or-treating. "Me and my best friend Demi Lovato have a tradition that we’ve been doing ever since I can remember."

As for surprising fans who open their door to find two Disney stars on their doorsteps, the Wizards of Waverly Place actress says they have a way around getting recognized.

"We actually wear masks," she admitted to OK! at H&M’s preview of the Commes des Garcons collection in NYC last night, "so it’s so funny because people don’t even know we’re walking by them."

Wearing a mask might be kind of hard this year, as Selena says she’s dressing up as June Carter Cash. So, OK! wanted to know, does she have a Johnny Cash in mind?

"No, I wish I had a Johnny Cash! I really do, but I don’t have one!" the bubbly brunette confessed.

Justine Bateman: No More Family Ties

October 13th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

The Partridge Family may be coming back, but don’t expect more Family Ties!

“It was specific to that ’80s moment,” Justine Bateman, who wrote the Oct. 12 episode of Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place, tells OK!.

The actress has been keeping busy with Wizards, as well as appearing on Arrested Development with her brother, Jason Bateman, Men in Trees and most recently, Desperate Housewives.

As for TV bro Michael J. Fox’s health, Justine talks about his attitude: “Michael says, ‘I got a great basket of goods when my life was dealt out. This is just part of it.’”

Justine Bateman Takes ‘Waverly Place’

October 12th, 2008

Justine Bateman goes behind the scenes to write the episode of Wizards of Waverly Place that airs tonight on The Disney Channel.

The 42-year-old actress, who made her name on Family Ties from 1982-1989, spun lines for today’s teen queen Selena Gomez.

What advice would she give her and other young stars like Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift?

“Everybody has to figure this out themselves,” Justine, who started on Family Ties at age 15, tells me. “I definitely remember thinking long-term about my career with what I did and said. It’s something to think about if they want to continue to work in the business later.”

For Justine, who recently compared baby photos with her Family Ties castmates during a Today show appearance, writing for kids isn’t far-fetched now that she’s a mom to Duke, 6, and Olivia, 4, whose father is her hubby of seven years, Mark.

What are the kids into these days?

“My son really likes the video game called Four,” she says. “You create a little character and take him through his own evolution. That’s a really fun game. And my daughter is into art. She loves making stuff and painting and drawing. It’s good stuff. They’re really fun people.”

How has motherhood changed Justine, who is gearing up to shoot Candy Inc. with Judd Nelson for her production company FM78.tv this spring, and will appear on Californication November 9?

“I notice the phrases that I’ve repeated,” she tells me. “If my kids were to make a talking doll of me as a mother, one of my recorded phrases would be ‘I will throw that in the trash.’ ‘If you don’t put that down right now, I will throw that in the trash.’ It’s very funny to hear myself say certain things – like noticing which phrases become the most popular to use.”

She won’t push her little ones into showbiz, though.

“If they wanted to be involved in something creative down the line, I would try to help them out. But there’s an awful lot of choices in the world as far as what one can do for a living. It’s best to be familiar with as many sectors of the working world as you can be so you’ll be better at your creative job anyway. I want them to get out there and know everything about everything. But who knows. It depends on what they want to do for a living.”

As far as an official Family Ties reunion show goes, Justine doesn’t see it in the cards.

“I enjoy shows staying in their moment of time,” she tells me. “I think Family Ties was very specific to that ’80s moment. The things we talked about, the specifics of the characters, what the characters were involved with and enjoyed. I think it had such a great impact because of its timing. I like shows to stay within their timing, but it definitely set the standard for what’s possible on a TV show.”

And, how is her onscreen brother Michael J. Fox doing in his battle against Parkinson’s Disease?

“He’s plugging along,” she says. “He’s got a really great attitude. Mike has never hosted a pity party.”

One thing Justine and Michael remember fondly is their charmed childhood growing up on a hot TV show.

“My first splurge was a pair of Maude Frizon black leather over-the-knee boots,” she says. “I consider that to be a very good purchase, and I wore them for many years. Spending money on well-made things is always a good investment.”

She adds, “I really enjoyed myself.”

Catch Justine’s episode of Wizards of Waverly Place, which airs tonight at 8:30 pm ET/PT on The Disney Channel.

CASTING SCOOP! Justine Bateman on Californication!

October 2nd, 2008

Hot Californication casting scoop!

Justine Bateman, last seen dealing drugs and getting popped on Desperate Housewives, is getting down and dirty in an upcoming episode.

My fellow blogger, Red Carpet Confidential’s Valerie Nome, got the exclusive on the Family Ties alum’s steamy guest spot.

“What every female over 18 does on that show – that’s what I do,” she declares. “Everybody has to get together with David Duchovny.”

Not that she’s (or we would be) complaining.

“I love David. I’ve worked with him before. I played his wife in a film called The TV Set,” she says. “He was doing this Californication episode and wanted me to play the part.”

Justine also reveals that David is one smart cookie.

“Within a conversation, he can make references to all kinds of things that you never read,” she says.

Hank Moody has time to read?

Californication airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on Showtime. Check out Justine’s performance on Nov. 9.

Selena Gomez: Not Against Rock Star Boyfriends

September 15th, 2008

Officially, the Selena Gomez camp still won’t confirm that the rising Disney star is dating Miley Cyrus’ ex, Nick Jonas.

But when OK! got chatting with the 16-year-old and her close friend and Wizards of Waverly Place co-star, Jennifer Stone, that wasn’t quite the impression we got!

It wasn’t so much that when we asked Selena what kind of guys she liked, she told us she was into the shy, creative type (remind you of anyone?), it was more Selena’s reaction when Jennifer described her perfect guy that seemed to give the game away.

"I really like the shabby-looking guys, like Johnny Depp and Emile Hirsch," Jennifer said. "And I’m always attracted to actors – it’s not good, but, hey, at least it’s not rock stars!"

And that was when Selena let out the tell-tale screech of outrage at the slighting of rock-star boyfriends.

So she won’t ‘fess up to to the relationship, but just for the record, Selena you’re definitely not against having rock stars as boyfriends?

"No, I’m not. I’m going to say that – no I’m not," she said.

Selena Feels “No Pressure” to be Role Model

July 31st, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

Disney sweetheart Selena Gomez really is as squeaky-clean as she sounds. During an interview set to air Friday morning on The Morning Show with Mike & Juliet, the teen star opens up about everything — fame, love, even her promise ring.

When it comes to being a role model for kids, Selena says, "I don’t feel any pressure. I’m pretty confident in who I am and who my parents are… I know I’m going to do the best I possibly can."

Despite rumors that she’s dating Nick Jonas, the star of Wizards of Waverly Place says she doesn’t have a boyfriend at the moment, but that doesn’t mean she can’t have a crush on the Hollywood bad boy of the moment.

"I go on dates and have crushes and stuff," she says. "Right now, my crush is Shia LaBeouf. He is cute and a great actor."

Like many pop princesses before her, Selena preaches a pure image which she insists is legit. She wears a special ring, which she calls "A purity ring. It’s a promise I made to myself."

Gomez applies the same code to the paparazzi revealing "I try to take pictures with all the kids. When it’s crazy old men trying to take my picture, I’m sorry. I’m strictly with the kids."

For the full interview, watch Friday’s Morning Show with Mike & Julietclick here for info on where to catch the show in your area.

Denied: No Rivalry Between Selena & Miley

July 29th, 2008

Disney sensation Selena Gomez is setting the record straight regarding rumors that she and fellow Disney sweetheart Miley Cyrus hate each other.

In an interview with Extra, Gomez says there’s no truth behind reports that she and Cyrus are bitter rivals.

"It’s just the media wanting something to talk about and wanting us to fight…and there’s nothing to talk about," Gomez said.

Of all the false reports she hears about herself, Selena says, "Everywhere you go you’re going to hear things that are untrue…You just got to learn that I don’t say it, physically out of my mouth,on camera, it’s not true."

The star of Wizards of Waverly Place says she credits her mom for keeping her grounded in reality, even in the midst of stardom.

"My mom’s there to say, ‘The moment I see you get big-headed or changing, I will drag you right back home to Texas and we are moving away from here," Gomez says.

But Selena admits growing up in Hollywood is a rough road to choose. "It’s overwhelming and there’s a lot to think about…knowing that there are hundreds of kids out there that look up to me. I know that’s a big responsibility."

Gomez says one of the ways she likes to relax is to curl up with a good play list.

"On my iPod right now is my best friend Demi Lovato, Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Jonas Brothers."

She adds, "Then I actually got Miley’s new CD. I really like her CD."

For the entire interview with Selena, tune into Extra tonight!
