Obama Girl: Yes We Did!

November 5th, 2008

When Barack Obama was named President-Elect Tuesday night, thousands across America celebrated, including one of Obama’s first fans who stripped down and professed her love in the song “I Got a Crush on Obama." The Internet sensation received more than 10 million hits on YouTube.

Amber Ettinger, 26, known as “Obama Girl” screamed and cheered when Obama’s triumph over John McCain was announced on television – a victory she says she had a part in.

“When we started the video, he was polling at about 11 percent so I think we definitely got him a little bit of notoriety early on in the campaign and that’s exactly what he needed,” Amber told OK! at NYC hotspot, restaurant/lounge Haven on Nov. 4 where she hosted an election party. “I don’t want to take any credit where credit’s not due but I think it definitely helped.”

There’s no doubt pop culture and comedy played a large roll in this year’s election, from Tina Fey’s widely celebrated Sarah Palin impersonation on Saturday Night Live to the Daily Show and Colbert Report on Comedy Central, to Obama Girl’s music video where Ettinger danced seductively and lip synced to lyrics: “I cannot wait, ’til 2008/ Baby you’re the best candidate/ Of the new oval office/ You’ll get your head of state/ I can’t leave you alone/ ‘Cause I’ve got a crush on Obama.”

“I just feel like I was a part of this election and that is incredible to me,” Amber said. “It’s like history in the making. I would never want to change it.”

With the elections over, one can’t help but wonder: What will become of Obama Girl? The buxom brunette hasn’t wasted any time capitalizing on her 15 minutes of fame and says she’s currently working on an album and starting a jewelry line with her mom. While she’s grateful for the doors that have been opened, she also wouldn’t mind a little appreciation from the Obama camp.

“I would absolutely love a little, little thank you note from Barack Obama,” she said. "That’s what I’m waiting for.”

Thank you note or not, Amber says she will continue celebrating and says she will always be an Obama Girl.

“I’ve been with him since day one and this is exactly what I hoped for,” she revealed. “I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited in my life.”

Gossip Girl Stars in Pro-Obama Ad

October 14th, 2008

Airing nationally on MTV, Comedy Central and during Gossip Girl, as well as on YouTube, Penn Badgley and Blake Lively star in a new pro-Barack Obama ad made by MoveOn.org. The spot parodies anti-drug PSAs, urging viewers to "talk to their parents" about voting for John McCain.

Directed by Bourne Identity’s Doug Liman, the 30-second commercial features the Gossip Girl stars, as well as other young actors warning of the consequences of voting for the Republican presidential nominee.

"This will be the most important election of our lifetimes when you think about what is at stake. Young people get it, they are voting overwhelmingly for Barack Obama," says director Doug Liman. "Too many of their parents are still on the fence and I thought it was important to make this ad and let my generation and older generations know that the younger generation is clear: they want a future and a country led by Barack Obama."

"Mom? Dad?  I found THIS in your room," says Penn in the spot as he holds up a "Drill Baby Drill!" hat.

"Just because other people your age are doing it, doesn’t make it cool," says another actor of voting for McCain.

"And if you’re ever out somewhere and you’re considering voting McCain, just call me.  I’ll pick you up.  No questions asked," Blake implores the camera.

VIDEO: Cusack Vs. McCain

June 11th, 2008

John Cusack has decided to voice his political views about the upcoming presidential election and he’s not beating around the "Bush" about who he’s going to vote for.

In a pair of videos posted on YouTube, Cusack addresses specific issues he feels both Republican nominee John McCain and President George W. Bush agree on.

"I know my opinion doesn’t matter more than anyone else’s and I just make films," he told the AP on Wednesday. "But I do feel you have to speak out, and that’s what I’m doing."

The 30-second videos went out to members of the liberal political activist group MoveOn.org and will begin airing as television ads on Thursday. In one of them Cusack offers a "pop quiz" to voters, asking them, among other things: "Who supports keeping our troops in harm’s way in Iraq but not the bipartisan G.I. bill of right to support them when they return home?"

The actor continues, saying that McCain and Bush both do, adding, "Bet you can’t tell them apart."

Cusack, whose latest film, the war satire War Inc., deals with these very subjects, says he supports Democrat Barack Obama.

Prince Sues YouTube

September 13th, 2007 / Author: cwillett

Prince is suing You Tube and other Web sites for unauthorized use of his music. He claims he’s doing it in order to "reclaim his art on the Internet."

In a statement, Prince said, "YouTube… are clearly able (to) filter porn and pedophile material but appear to choose not to filter out the unauthorized music and film content which is core to their business success.”
