Zach Scrubs Up

July 18th, 2008 / Author: OK! Staff

You’ll be seeing a leaner Zach Braff when he comes back to Scrubs this fall.  The actor told OK! after the press conference for his ABC show that he had lost weight.

"I’m in the best shape of my life,"  Zach revealed.  "I just started eating better and about a year ago I had a change in my diet and exercise.  I lost a little weight. (Now) I’m being healthy.  I met a new friend and that person just inspired me to eat better and treat my body better and exercise for the first time in my life-running, everything-so I feel great.  I feel better than I’ve ever felt."

Kudos Zach!

TCA ADVENTURES: Dancing with Derek Hough!

July 17th, 2008

Ballroom-kicking it freestyle with Dancing With the Stars’ Derek Hough.

What a way to start my first Television Critics Association conference, held this year at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

I was barely off the plane and checked into the hotel before I found myself chatting up Eli Stone’s Loretta Devine. That story in a minute. Let’s get back to Derek.

ABC threw a dinner and dancing party with the DWTS’ pros. Ballroom husband and wife Alec Mazo and Edyta Sliwinska lead eager journalists through some basic steps. I was standing directly in front of Derek, so he took me on as his partner.

I’ve taken a few dance lessons in my lifetime. And I’m pretty good at faking what I don’t know. Derek must have seen something in my skills.

After cha cha-ing through the routine we had just learned, Alec yelled "freestyle." And suddenly I was sashaying, spinning and swirling in Derek’s capable hands.

We needed a grand finale, so Derek scooped me up off the floor and twirled me around several times before putting me back on the ground.

Let’s just say the dismount was a little dizzying.

While I’m pretty sure Derek and I would kill it on Dancing With the Celebrity Journalists, there’s a certain A-lister he’d love to teach a twirl or two to.

"Angelina Jolie," he told me after our show-stopping display. "I think any man on the planet would like to have her as a partner. She’s as hot as hell."

Shaking your booty would be a great way to drop the baby weight, Ange!

Back to Loretta… The Broadway vet (she was Lorrell in the original Broadway production of Dreamgirls, holla!), is getting a chance to sing on Eli Stone, the series about a lawyer who has musical prophecies. Loretta wants to do it even more, and she’d like to do it next to her dream guest star, Patti LaBelle!

Loretta’s ready to keep up her double duty on Grey’s Anatomy as Adele, who has rekindled her romance with her estranged husband, the Chief Dr. Richard Webber.

And that’s a good thing, according to the actress.

"James Pickens Jr. is a good kisser," she laughed.

I also listened to movie hunk Ashton Kutcher talk up his new reality game show Opportunity Knocks, and learned that Scrubs, which made the jump to ABC, will mostly likely see the exit of its star Zach Braff at the end of the season.

While Zach isn’t sure what he’s doing next, he does know what will happen to JD and Turk’s stuffed pet Rowdy.

"I’m getting him. I laid claim on Rowdy," he told me.

Not a bad first day at all!

Check back for my second day of TCA adventures tomorrow!

Best Bachelors!

December 8th, 2007 / Author: OK! Staff

This past weekend Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough married longtime sweetheart Leigh Boniello and Scott Baio finally settled down with fiancee Renee Sloan. But even though Baio and the Backstreet-er are both hitched, there’s still plenty of hunks on the horizon. Below, OK!’s list of the hottest Hollywood bachelors.

Owen Wilson has ponied up to plenty of gorgeous women in the last several years — Kate Hudson and Sheryl Crow among them, but none of them have stuck.

7) Matthew McConaughey is currently dating Brazilian model Camilla Alvez and has been linked previously to Penelope Cruz and Ashley Judd, but it seems his heart is always with his guy friends. He and buddy Woody Harrelson recently rekindled their “bromance” with a guy’s trip to Peru.

6) Zach Braff has gone through a string of hot blondes — from his Scrubs co-star Sarah Chalke, to singer Bonnie Somerville, to Mandy Moore, all without settling down. The emo-tastic lothario is currently on the prowl.

5) Described by his We Own the Night co-star Eva Mendes as a “puppy dog,” Joaquin Phoenix was at one time linked to Liv Tyler, but in recent years, has said that, “My significant other right now is myself, which is what happens when you suffer from multiple personality disorder and self-obsession.”

4) Maroon Five singer Adam Levine has marooned relationships with Jessica Simpson, Kirsten Dunst and Lindsay Lohan, but claims he’s hardly a playboy. Still, he told Canadian magazine Dose, "I’d rather [people] think I’m this playboy sleaze ball, or whatever they think I am — a ladies man. (I don’t think it’s gotten to the point where they think I’m a pig.) No matter what they think, A: it doesn’t matter to me and, B: the farther away from my actual character it is, the better I feel. I think it’s good to have some privacy."

3) After a quickie marriage and divorce from British actress Amelia Warner in 2001, Colin Farrell played the field, hooking up with a slew of Hollywood hotties, including Britney Spears, Rosario Dawson and Lindsay Lohan. He’s still unattached, though.

2) Legendary bachelor Jack Nicholson is known for dating — and dissing— much younger women, including most recently Lara Flynn Boyle. He also got into trouble for impregnating one young starlet while still involved with main squeeze Anjelica Houston. When Houston found out that Nicholson was having a kid with actress Rebecca Broussard, “she really beat me up,” he told Parade. “I tell you, Anjelica can punch!”

1) How serious is George Clooney about staying single? He’s got a $100,000 bet with Michelle Pfeiffer that he’ll never marry again. He was wedded, once — to Talia Balsam, from 1989 to 1993, and the confirmed bachelor has been dating Las Vegas cocktail waitress Sarah Larson since the summer, but Larson should take a lesson from past Clooney girlfriends like Krista Allen and realize that Clooney can’t be caught.

FRIDAY: DAYS IN SOIREES

December 7th, 2007

MONDAY:I stayed home recovering from late flight back from LA. A few blocks from my house Scrubs star Zach Braff , Mario Lopez and a group of guys were drinking blood orange margaritas and eating oysters at Social Stantons Monday Social party.

TUESDAY: PR powerhouses Ken Sunshine and Shawn Sachs hosted their annual holiday party – aka the industry’s biggest annual schmoozefest. This year Sunshine, Sachs and Assoc. client John Mayer dropped by the soiree, the veritable who’s who of publicists and editors, as well as Ricki Lake – not a client, and not so sure why she was there actually. Although I witnessed John and Ricki standing a few feet from each other, I must admit I was as surprised as anyone to read in Page Six the next day that they exchanged numbers and text together all night after Ricki left for The Gramercy Park Hotel. I left before Ricki, or John, and also went to the Gramercy Park Hotel where Dolce and Gabbana were hosting a dinner to celebrate their new NYC boutique and Matthew McConauhey as the face of their new “One for Men” frangrance. The designers told me Matthew is perfect for the man for the campaign because, “He exudes sexiness, charm and allure that makes him the obvious choice.”

WEDNESDAY
: Sarah and I went to a George Michael/Aretha Franklin concert/UNICEF benefit at Wall Street Cipriani so exclusive hardly a photo can be found – except those we took ourselves (the one with Sarah, Richie Sambora and I posted in a previous blog and the photo on the right of Matchbox 20’s Rob Thomas, his wife Marisol, James Patrick Herman and I). George Michael nearly brought Sarah and I to tears when he performed "Jesus to a Child" before brining us back up with “Faith” and I was happy to run into Richard Branson for the second time in 24 hours.

THURSDAY: I went to a benefit for the Lunchbox Fund and Food Bank for NYC. I attend the gala for this charity annually because it’s a cause I particularly care about - and they always do fun events that attract a bevy of A-listers. This event was a preview of lunchboxes that went up for auction at www.thelunchboxauction.org Dec. 7 and will remain up for auction online until Dec. 7. It was really amazing to see how creative stars could be with a lunchbox! Courtney Cox and David Arquette’s were as different as the two of them, Maggie Gyllenhaal told me turning hers into a music box was a family decision and Cameron’s Diaz’s was cute. Host Michael Stipe auctioned his lunchbox live and it went for $35,000! Don’t worry, the starting bid for the rest is $100. Check them out!

FRIDAY: Going for happy hour and then going home. It’s Tivo Friday.

SATURDAY: Stay tuned tomorrow when my colleague Laura Schreffler will guest blog for the Carribean!

Scrubs Creator Promises a Finale

November 12th, 2007

The cast of Scrubs, who are currently starring in the 7-year-old series final season, continued their farewell tour this Saturday in New York City. They spoke to die-hard fans about their show experiences at the fourth annual New York Comedy Festival, held at the Paley Center for Media in midtown Manhattan.

It wasn’t all heartbeats and giggles for the tight-knit cast. As the writers’ strike looms with no definitive ending in sight, Scrubs may not get to play out its full season, and more imprtantly, get a proper series finale. Show star Zach Braff thinks it’s a shame that stalled negotiations could “end up canceling the end of our season.”

Cheer up J.D.! According to series creator Bill Lawrence, even if the writers’ strike does prevent the show from having a final episode, he’s going to find a way to bring it closure, possibly by reading the final scripts on the web. And Bill’s still “holding out hope that level heads are going to prevail and the show is going to get to end,” he shared.

Thank goodness. I may need to check into a hospital if this show doesn’t get an ending — and I never find out the Janitor’s real name!

Scrubs airs Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. on NBC.

Zach and Shiri: It’s Serious!

September 27th, 2007

Zach Braff’s romance with former Roswell cutie Shiri Appelby has secretly been going on for three months, OK! has learned exclusively. And it has gotten so serious so fast, friends are already predicting that marriage is a real possibility. “They’ve been hanging out at each other’s houses, going out for romantic dinners, shopping and having a great time together,” a friend of Shiri’s tells OK! “They’re so together as a couple already, they even spent the recent Jewish holidays together.”

Braff, 32, and 28-year-old Appelby have also pleased their respective families with the match. “They’re just great together,” says the friend. “They are both into their careers, want to marry and have kids, and they both embrace Judaism so they are on the same page about a lot of things that are important.”

Zach stars as Dr. J. D. Dorian on the NBC series Scrubs while Shiri will soon be returning to the small screen in the USA Network series To Love and Die.
