Did Lady Gaga's Alter-Ego Jo Calderone Rule or Ruin MTV VMAs?

There was no meat dress. No life-size egg hatching. No latex, stilettos, or aqua hair. Lady Gaga's fashion choice is always a hotly-anticipated part of MTV's Video Music Awards (#whatwillgagawear became a trending topic before the show Sunday night), but this year fans may have been left a bit baffled when Gaga left herself behind and brought out her male alter-ego Jo Calderone for the entirety of the show.
Gaga committed to the character throughout the whole show, and went as far as only using the men's restroom, the New York Post reports.

"She left me! She said it always starts out good and then the guys — meaning me, I'm one of the guys — we get crazy," the singer, channeling Calderone, said in an opening monologue during the award show.
"I did. I got crazy. But she's f****ng crazy too, right?" she added.
She was certainly one of the evening's big winners, taking home the moon man for Best Female Video for "Born This Way."
